Things to Know Before You Go
Visa and Entry
Since April 2014, Chinese tourists can enter Jamaica visa-free with a valid passport, return air ticket or ship ticket, hotel booking information, and sufficient travel funds for a stay of up to 30 days. Remember to submit your arrival and departure card at the airport immigration office. Also, carry the name and phone number of your Jamaican contact person or hotel booking information, just in case.
Currency and Payment
US dollars are widely accepted in Jamaica, so there's no need to exchange currency in advance. Cash is the primary payment method, but credit cards are also accepted in hotels and shops.
Transportation
It takes about 3 hours to drive from Montego Bay Airport to Kingston. Within Kingston, you can take taxis with red license plates. Be sure to agree on the fare with the driver before getting in. Public buses are less frequent, have long wait times, and lack clear bus stops. They are mainly used by locals. Due to local security and taxi management issues, we advise caution when taking taxis. Avoid sharing rides with locals alone, and don't carry large amounts of cash or valuables. Cars drive on the left side of the road in Jamaica, and speeds are generally high. Traffic accidents are common, so be extra careful of animals such as cows and sheep that may suddenly appear on the road if you choose to drive yourself.
