Visit Japan · Ashikaga Flower Park, Tochigi Prefecture
On the third day of the trip (May 10, 2017), we continued our flower viewing trip, and the destination for the day was Ashikaga Flower Park in Tochigi Prefecture.
The Shinkansen train left Tokyo Station at 9:16 a.m. on time and arrived at Oyama Station at around 9:58 a.m., a journey of about 42 minutes.
At Oyama Station, transfer to the JR Ryomo Line local train bound for Tomita Station. The journey takes about 40 minutes. The fare from Tokyo Station to Tomita Station is 3,990 yen (about HK$280) if you do not have the JR Tokyo Wide Pass.
Ashikaga Flower Park is about a 15-minute walk from Tomita Station.
The admission fee to the park varies depending on the blooming conditions in the park, with a minimum of 300 yen and a maximum of 1,700 yen. The admission fee on the day Waffle and his mother visited was 1,600 yen (about 115 yuan), which means that the flowers in the park were in full bloom.
The beautiful wisteria flowers have made Ashikaga Flower Park one of the top ten dream tourist attractions in the world by CNN in the United States. It is the only attraction in Japan selected.
There are many dining options in the park, including ramen, dumplings, skewers and barbecue. Waffles and my mother had the flat and wide soup udon (650 yen/about HK$45), which had a smooth texture and was very delicious.
The 80-meter-long white wisteria tunnel and four large wisteria trees are both natural monuments of Tochigi Prefecture. They are of great historical value and need to be well protected.
Yae Black Dragon Wisteria is a rare variety with a particularly elegant shape, looking a bit like grapes.
The park is larger than I expected, and there are more flower species than I expected. The lupines are so beautiful!
Wisteria is so beautiful that the photo cannot fully reflect its beauty.
When I came to Ashikaga Flower Park during the Great Wisteria Festival, I had to try the wisteria-flavored soft serve ice cream (400 yen/about HK$28). The light purple color was beautiful, and the flavor of the wisteria was fresh and natural, which was very easy to accept. I thought it tasted a bit like Earl Grey tea.
Before leaving Ashikaga Flower Park, walk into the souvenir shop, where there are many wisteria-themed souvenirs, including cookies and noodles, as well as Tochigi-exclusive Hello Kitty products.
