All Trip Moments about Mgarr
Mgarr is a
Mgarr is a small sea town of the Maltese republic located in the island of #gozo . Gozo is certainly different place than Malta. The ferry from the main island in the country stops right here in Mgarr so it is definitely impossible to miss this place on your way to the good beaches of the island. The place is very beautiful and I enjoyed it.

The breathtaking red hues of Malta's Clay Cliffs at sunset
🪨 Evening colors atop the cliffs
Located between Golden Bay and Riviera Beach in northwest Malta, the Clay Cliffs are stunning during the day but become truly magical at sunset. Standing atop the cliffs, the red soil blends with the golden hues of the setting sun, creating a magnificent view. The sound of the wind, the soft dirt paths, and the sun slowly descending beyond the horizon—all come together to form a picturesque moment. 🌄🍂🌬️

🪁 Serenity at the edge of the rocks
Walking further inward along the cliffs, you'll find a scattered rocky area. This spot is less crowded and offers a closer view of the sea, making it perfect for quietly enjoying the sunset. The shimmering sea under the red sky and the lingering glow of sunlight create a calming atmosphere. ⛰️🌅🍷

📷 A view to remember
Though the scene before you lasts only a moment before darkness falls, its impression lingers in your heart. Sitting on the rocks after a trek, gazing at the sea, and reflecting on the day is one of the most unforgettable experiences of a trip to Malta. 📸🧘🧡

Springtime Rambles in the Sun
Hiking in Malta during the spring is a breathtaking adventure, where the golden sun shines brightly in a clear blue sky, and a gentle breeze carries the fresh scent of the sea and wild flowers. Trekking along the island’s dramatic coastline, you’re treated to stunning views of the Mediterranean while surrounded by fields of yellow flowers. The rugged limestone cliffs rise majestically from the water, their jagged edges shaped by centuries of wind and waves. As the trail meanders through the countryside, vibrant wildflowers add splashes of color to the rocky landscape. Some paths require a bit of scrambling over weathered stones, adding an exciting challenge to the journey. With every step, the beauty of Malta’s nature unfolds, making each moment along the coast a truly unforgettable experience.

A Much Photographed Rocky Outcrop
Probably the most photographed rocky outcrop in Malta is a promontory that sticks out from the coast between the Riviera Bay and Gnejna Bay. It really is a very photogenic geological feature. I’ve even seen people climbing onto the top, although I wouldn’t recommend it as I’m not sure how safe it is. There is a circular hiking trail that runs around this rocky Peninsula.

Unknown Qarraba Bay
Qarraba Bay in the north of Malta is one of the lesser known beaches on the island and definitely has a bit more of a wild vibe to it. It’s not really maintained as many of the other beaches are as there are no facilities on this beach but if you would like to have a more ‘wild’ experience away from the crowds, it’s a great beach to explore and the hike down is to it is fun as well

New Year Hikes
On New Year’s Day 2025, I took a beautiful hike around Riviera Bay also called Ghajn Tuffieha on the Mediterranean island of Malta. It was a beautifully sunny day and warmer than usual for the time of year so I even took a quick dip in the water, although it was a little cold. As there can be quite heavy showers of rain in the winter in Malta, the hills around the bay were looking exceptionally green. If you’re looking for some winter sun, Malta is the place to be.

Hiking in Malta 🇲🇹
This time of year is one of the best times of year for hiking in Malta, the weather is mild around 15°C and there is often a gentle breeze to keep you feeling cool. One of my favourite hikes is from Riviera Bay (Ghajn Tuffieha) to Gnejna Bay on the north west coast of Malta. There are two main hiking trails here one that follows the shoreline, and another along the cliff top. My preference is to walk along the shoreline trail first, and then head back along the cliff top trail. Really looking forward to being back in Malta in February!

The amazing cliffs of Gnejna Bay 🇲🇹
Gnejna Bay is a popular sandy beach located in the North West of Malta, within the limits of Mgarr.
The beach is mostly sandy and is the third sandy beach of the chain of beaches in the area, together with Golden Bay and Ghajn Tuffieha, however Gnejna is smaller, less crowded and offers the option to choose a quieter spot.
The beach is surrounded by limestone cliffs and offers a picturesque view of the Mediterranean Sea.
The beach is easily accessible by car and has a parking lot right in front of it.
The beach is a perfect place for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the outdoors. The beach is also a popular spot for snorkeling and diving.
