Chuanshan Academy is located in Dongzhou Island, Xiangjiang River, Yanfeng District, Hengyang City, Hunan Province. It was built in the eighth year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty and was named after Wang Fuzhi (Zi Chuanshan), a thinker and philosopher in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Wang Fuzhi participated in the anti-Qing struggle many times in his early years and lived in seclusion at the foot of Shichuan Mountain in Hengyang in his later years. His academic scope covers classics, history, philosophy, astronomy, geography and literature, and he was honored as "Mr. Chuanshan" by later generations. The academy is located in Chuanshan Temple in Hengyang City. In the eleventh year of Emperor Guangxu's reign, Peng Yulin, the Minister of War, proposed to move the academy to Dongzhou Island, which has a quiet environment, and raised funds to build a new academy. After the relocation, the academy has expanded in scale and beautiful environment, becoming an important base for studying and spreading Chuanshan's thoughts in the Hunan and Xiangxi regions. Today, Chuanshan Academy is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The courtyard is simple and elegant, and the ancient camphor trees in front of the courtyard are verdant. The museum exhibits Wang Fuzhi's life and Chuanshan's thoughts. Every year, it attracts a large number of scholars and tourists to visit and listen to the charm of Hunan culture and Chuanshan academics. It is an important place to experience the traditional Chinese academy culture and red education.
