It takes about 2 and a half hours to get here by bus from Kyoto on a day trip. It is easier to take a direct bus with children. We chose to take the cable car to the observation deck, where we can take a lot of nice photos and see one of the three most scenic views in Japan, the "Amanohashidate Hiryukan". We can also try to look at it upside down from under our buttocks, which is quite a novel experience. There is also an amusement park here where kids have a blast. You can ride an aerial bike to enjoy the scenery, with a wider and unobstructed view, which is a completely different kind of beauty. Then take the cable car or chairlift back down the mountain and walk to Zhi'en Temple and the coast. Chien-ji Temple is an important spiritual place for seeking wisdom, academic success and mental clarity. Chion-ji Temple is listed as one of the "Three Great Monju Temples in Japan", along with Abe Monju-in Temple in Nara and Kuhin-ji Temple in Okayama. You will pass by the shopping street and restaurants on the way. The most famous one should be Chie Mochi. You will become smarter after eating it. The mochi tastes very special, dense and tender, super smooth, and the red bean paste is not sweet. The big lanterns under the mountain gate are very eye-catching. Visited while the monthly market was set up, very nice. Lots of local vendors selling anything from clothing to food. A great surprice, without people and amaizing.
