Nature Park With No Chestnuts
There are a few things in life I love doing and one of them is keeping fit and hiking. My recent hiking trip brought me to Chestnut Nature Park and even though the name suggests Chestnut, there are no Chestnuts in this Park. Instead, you will be surrounded with lots of greenery and quietness and some wildlife if you're lucky.
I chose the Southern hiking trail at Chestnut nature park and the terrain was rocky and muddy, with a doable hiking difficulty level. There were not many slopes or steps but do wear fitting shoes as it can get pretty rocky and you may slip and fall. I love how there are huts along the trail for you to seek shelter or take a break. Lots of greenery and small water streams for you to admire as you hike and take in some fresh air. It is very peaceful in there too.
The nature park is generally not crowded on a weekday and there is also a dirt bike rental shop available if you do dirt biking. Toilets are available at the park too, as well as a carpark with limited parking lots.

Chestnut Nature Park in Singapore is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Located in the north-eastern part of Singapore, near Bukit Panjang, this park is the city’s largest nature park, offering a substantial space for recreation and exploration in a lush, natural setting.
The park is divided into two sections: Chestnut Nature Park North and Chestnut Nature Park South. Together, they cover over 80 hectares, providing ample room for a variety of activities. The park features separate trails for hiking and mountain biking, which are designed to cater to different skill levels, from beginners to more experienced adventurers.
Hikers can enjoy the well-maintained walking trails that meander through diverse habitats, offering opportunities to observe a rich variety of flora and fauna. The trails are well signposted, with information boards that educate visitors about the wildlife and plant species that can be found in the area.
Mountain bikers will find excitement in the park’s dedicated biking trails, which are known for their varying terrain and challenging sections. These trails allow cyclists to navigate through scenic landscapes, making it a popular spot for the mountain biking community.
Chestnut Nature Park also features amenities such as lookout points, shelters, and washrooms, making it convenient for visitors planning longer stays. One of the highlights is the observation tower, which provides panoramic views of the surrounding greenery and is a perfect spot for bird watching.
Whether you're looking to engage in vigorous outdoor activities or simply want a tranquil place to reconnect with nature, Chestnut Nature Park offers a comprehensive outdoor experience. It's a wonderful escape from the urban environment, showcasing Singapore’s dedication to preserving green spaces and promoting outdoor activities.

Chestnut Nature Park
#singaporetrip A pleasant place to walk for a few hours.
The northern loop was my favourite as one can hear traffic in the southern one. But the trees with the 'globe balls' in the southern one were very interesting!
Got to see a boarand monkey the northern one, safely in the distance.I enjoyed the view from the tower, too.
Chestnut Nature Park is bisected into north and south by Chestnut Avenue. The Southern Trail is a loop, while the Northern Trail leads to the Observation Tower.
The Mandai T15 Trail or aka Gangsa Trail starts from the Observation Tower, and ending at Mandai Road next to the Bird Paradise.
Chestnut Nature Park is inaccessible by public transport.
But there is a carpark next to Chestnut Point where there are toilets and mountain bike rental.

Nature Hike Chestnut Nature Park
Getting There - We took a train to Choa Chu Kang MRT, transferred to the LRT and took the LRT to Bangkit station. We alighted and walked (15 min) from there.
Attractions -
The nature park features a heavily forrested terrain - almost reminded me of my army days. My friends and I had some close encounters with wild boars and monkeys (very excited, and intense). Exercise caution but all in all, the animals are timid and generally do not harm people.
Dress well in preparation for the terrain (slightly muddy, uneven terrain).
Food & Restaurants -
Bukit Panjang Food Centre is nearby, but from there - be prepared to bring some water along. Be wary of monkeys along the trail, they are bold and will steal your food. Do not bring food to the trial/keep it hidden :)
