I have been to Chengdu several times and visited some places in and around the city. The People's Park, known for its 'Longmen Array' reputation, was my first visit. The weather was exceptionally good on the day I visited the People's Park, as most of the time during the May Day period, Chengdu was either raining or cloudy. On the day of the visit, the weather cleared up, and the sky mirror of sunny Chengdu was very beautiful. While experiencing the slow life of Chengdu, watching the ever-changing clouds was a very comfortable life! Chengdu People's Park is located at No. 12 Shaocheng Road, Citang Street, in the city center of Chengdu, covering an area of 112,639 square meters. It is the largest open scenic garden historical park in the bustling city center. In Chengdu People's Park, through in-depth communication, one can deeply feel that this is truly a 'people's park' and a rare century-old city garden. Originally named Shaocheng Park, Chengdu People's Park was established in 1911 and is one of the earliest modern parks in China, as well as the first modern park in Sichuan. In the third year of the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty (1911), General Yukun, who was stationed in Chengdu, consulted with Zhou Shanpei, the Sichuan Provincial Encouragement of Industry Road, to build a park on Citang Street to open up the city. Only the Bannermen were allowed to do business and make a living in the park, and park entrance fees were collected to allow people to come in and play. 🌳People's Park is also known as Shaocheng Park by the locals. It is one of the earliest parks in Chengdu and even in China. 🌳In 1911, the Qing Dynasty was on the verge of collapse, and the Manchu people in Chengdu, who had lost their rice supply, were living in poverty. Therefore, General Yu Kun of Chengdu opened up more than 50 mu of land on Citang Street in the south corner of Shaocheng, planted flowers and trees, and built a park, which was open to the public for a fee. He also allowed the Manchu people to open businesses in the park to make a living. 🌳Since 1718, when Nian Gengyao built the Manchu City on the basis of Shaocheng in Chengdu, the city within a city, which blocked the progress of the Manchu and Han people, was finally opened. The following year, the walls of the Manchu City were demolished, and the feudal shackles that had bound Chengdu for 200 years collapsed. 🌳It is a symbol and a flag. For 40 years, Shaocheng Park has always been a symbol of the spirit of freedom and democracy. In 1914, the "Monument to the Martyrs of the Railway Protection Movement" was erected in the park. In 1919, during the May Fourth Movement, students gathered at "Zhenliu" and progressive teachers discussed at "Heming". During the War of Resistance against Japan, many fundraising rallies were held here, so much so that the Japanese army bombed the park twice on September 27, 1940, and July 27, 1941, killing thousands of people... 🌳In 1949, Shaocheng Park was renamed People's Park. In 2004, the park stopped charging admission fees. In 2010, the walls were demolished, and People's Park was truly given to the people.

#asiatrip Visiting Chengdu's People’s Park was a delightful experience for me. It’s a lively spot where locals gather, giving you a real feel of Chengdu’s culture. The peaceful lake, tea houses, and beautiful gardens make it perfect for a leisurely stroll. I loved watching people practice tai chi, dance, and play Mahjong – it felt so vibrant. I LOVED my experience at the people’s park in Chengdu. Here are some of the things you can do while there: - explore the principals of the Chinese government by walking through their shrine of Chinese values - watch old people play traditional Chinese games - read through the matchmaking wall! (So much fun, couldn’t stop laughing translating every paper) - eat yummy ice cream / tea! - watch a GORGEOUS Chinese traditional dancing performance at a tea house (this was my favorite part). You can watch from outside or get tea to have a front row seat (the tea is expensive, around $8 but worth it if you’re in a group!) 10/10 recommend #naturalwonders #thingstodo
