Who thought one of the places to find cherry blossom is at the highest mountain in Thailand? Normally cherry blossom viewing is organised by a tour group but instead of joining them I chose to rent a car instead to save cost. The journey took almost 3 hours ride from our hotel in Chiang Mai and we arrived quite early but there is literally nobody waiting at the entrance so we paid 0 entrance fee bcs the cherry blossom season has ended so lucky us? 😅 We arrived at the end of January early Feb but I can say peak bloom is definitely in the mid of January. The flower is still there but it is wilting. One of the most chill experiences I had in Chiang Mai was spending half a day trip at Chang Chill, an ethical elephant sanctuary tucked into the hills. No rides, no shows, no feeding, no bathing just elephants being elephants. I watched them roam freely, graze, and bathe themselves in the river, all at their own pace. We followed quietly along forest trails, listening to the sounds of nature and learning about each elephant’s story from the friendly guides. The vibe was calm, respectful, and grounding. In February, I had the opportunity to visit a super chill homestay at Khun Wang, near Doi Inthanon. The house is also a cafe and noodle shop. 2024/8/12 It took us nearly 1.5 hours to drive from downtown Chiang Mai to Mae Wang, a paradise on earth. We passed through the city to restock (mini big C) & 7-11.
