2025 Tashkent Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in July)

The high-speed train Abrashav connects Tashkent and Samarkand, which are about 300 km apart, in 2.5 hours. The highest temperature on the day of the trip was 42°C in June, but the air conditioning was on and the car was comfortable✨ The shaking was about the same as on Japanese express trains, the seats were wide and the seats in front were wide, and there were also power outlets. There are economy, business and VIP seats, and I chose the business seats because they were only about 1,500 yen more expensive than the economy seats, but the hospitality was amazing❤️ In addition to free snack sets such as cupcakes, there is also a hot tea wagon service⭐️ The nice thing is the on-board sales😊 A huge selection of fruits and ice cream for about 200 yen♪ I asked, but there was no beer😂 It seems that there is wine in the dining car🍷 The toilets are spacious and clean. You can exit the station from the side without entering the station building. The Afrasyaab is a popular train, so we recommend that you make a reservation early. Tickets can be purchased 45 days before departure, and I was able to reserve easily through the Uzbekistan Railways app👍 Half of the seats in the carriages face forward and the other half face backward, but you can see the direction of travel when you select your seat. If you have a ticket, you can enter the station even a few hours before departure. There is a security check, so it is recommended that you arrive 30 minutes before departure. Both Tashkent Station and Samarkand Station have plenty of air-conditioned waiting seats😊 The stained glass and chandelier decorations at Samarkand Station are especially worth seeing✨ What surprised me was that Tashkent Station has an alcohol counter selling vodka and beer🍺 Although 90% of the country is Muslim, you can see that they are tolerant of alcohol. The toilets at the station were free and squatting toilets like Japanese style toilets, but there was a mountain of toilet paper and it didn't feel clean. (Samarkand also had Western style toilets) There was paper, but it was stiff 😅 There was Wi-Fi, so I tried to connect, but I couldn't because I needed a phone verification in Uzbekistan. Flying direct from Guangzhou to Tashkent, with no specific plans, just a casual city walk to explore this city. Stop 1⃣️ ⛪️Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin The blue cathedral, photography is not allowed inside. The exterior is very beautiful, and the interior is exquisite. If you’re not in a hurry, you can spend half an hour here. Stop 2⃣️ 🌳Mavi Gümbezler Hiyabanı A park near the Kosmonavtlar metro station. Before 3 PM, there are many second-hand stalls selling some old collectibles. If interested, you can browse for treasures. There are also many second-hand book stalls. Stop 3⃣️ 🚇Metro Station Check-in People say Tashkent’s metro stations have a Soviet aesthetic, but I might have to question that. In my opinion, Stockholm’s metro is true art. Of course, experiencing the former Soviet style is still worthwhile (although I think Kyiv’s is more Soviet). There are two types of metro cars: the old trains have no air conditioning and feel similar to Mexico City’s; the new trains are very clean and remind me of Medellín’s. I mainly checked in at: Kosmonavtlar Station, Alisher Navoiy Station with beautiful patterns, and Gafur Gulom Station with mosaic designs. Stop 4⃣️ 🏨Hotel Uzbekistan Another example of Soviet aesthetics. As Uzbekistan’s earliest luxury hotel, it has an excellent location and is great for photos. Stop 5⃣️ 🚌City Bus Tour There is a bus outside Hotel Uzbekistan every hour, lasting about 90 minutes. If you don’t know what to do, spend 200,000 for a city tour with English commentary. As for food, tastes vary, so I won’t record much, but if you like fruit, be sure to buy some at the supermarket! 🍒 Cherries cost only 9,000 UZS per jin (about 500g), really a great deal! After a supermarket stroll, I feel that prices in Tashkent are not very high, even quite low for things like eggs, fruit, and taxis. Other items might be expensive, open for discussion. 👀If you want to experience the former Soviet Union, Tashkent is a good choice. Personally, having been to several former Soviet countries, using Ukraine as an example, I find Tashkent’s architecture and food very similar to Kyiv’s, but Tashkent has more ethnic and cultural fusion. Huge local market in Tashkent cannot be skipped. We went to celebrate the birthday of my friend to Tashkent for 3 days and of course Choray Bazaar was in our list. It’s a huge local market full of nuts, fruits, tea, meat and son inside. Outside you can also find clothes and other goods as well. Don’t forget to bargain! The nuts and pomegranate were so delicious and the prices were cheaper than we have in Russia so we bought them as the gifts for our friends and everyone liked them a lot! #celebrateit

I figured that visiting a mosque is the only thing to do in terms of sightseeing at 8am. The museums that my friend and I wanted to visit would not open until 10am. The Minor Mosque is a new mosque in Tashkent. Construction completed in 2014 before the Eid al-Fitr holiday. It has the capacity of accommodating 2,500 prayers at once. Known as the “White Mosque” in Tashkent, the Minor Mosque lived amply up to its name on the day of our visit. Its white marble exterior exuded an air of holiness. It stood pure, speckless and sparkly under the brilliance of the sun’s early rays. There are two minarets in the height of 38 meters. The structure consists also of two large portals, beautifully decorated with geometric patterns in blue and white, as well as Quran scripts. Although Uzbekistan is not considered fundamentalist, as an Islam country, the faith is well alive and practiced in Uzbekistan. The sinews of faith do bind the cultural fabric of the Muslim majority in Uzbekistan. This fact is seen when we witness the prayers at the mosques in the country. A word must be given here about the name of the mosque. To English speakers one would associate the Minor Mosque with the size of the mosque, and naturally wonders if there is indeed a “grand mosque” or “major mosque” as its counterpart. The Minor Mosque’s name is actually a geographical reference, as this part of Central Asia was known as Asia Minor in the ancient days. The Minor Mosque is, in fact, one of the largest mosques and religious centers in Tashkent and Uzbekistan. Walking through the city, the streets are wide and lined with green trees, and whether it's the scenery or the pedestrians on the street, it all vaguely makes me feel like I am walking on the streets of Yili. The urban area of Tashkent is not large, and Yilan spent two days last week wandering the city, recommending this Citywalk route in Tashkent: Amir Timur Square: Amir Timur Square is the center of Tashkent, with the city's landmark - the statue of Emperor Timur standing in the middle of the square. 🇺🇿Traveling to Uzbekistan, I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel Tashkent in Tashkent.
