This Gothic cathedral located in the center of Florence is a Gothic-style cathedral. Walking along the cobblestone streets of Florence from the station to the center, the marble exterior wall that appeared in front of us immediately caught our attention. #Santa Maria del Fiore was designed by the famous architect Arnolfo di Cambio. Its exterior is made of three brightly colored marbles from neighboring cities: white from Carrara, green from Prato, and pink from Siena. These colors combine to create a unique visual beauty, and you can appreciate their delicacy and magnificence more closely when you observe them. The church's most eye-catching dome was built by the architect Filippo Brunelleschi in the 15th century and is still regarded as the pinnacle of Renaissance technology and art. The entire church complex is composed of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Baptistery of St. John. The three complement each other and have become one of the most representative landmarks of Florence. This time we bought a package ticket, which allows us to visit the interior and climb to the top of the church and Giotto's Bell Tower within three days. To reach the top of the church, you need to climb about 463 steps, and to reach the top of the bell tower, you need to climb 414 steps! Florence gets extremely busy and full of tourist especially in summer time that you may only hear people speak in English due to the high volume of tourism. The whole tower it is secured upstairs, so pics can be taken but they will always have bar due to the high risk of falling. There are a lot of narrow steps to climb, so you may want to keep that in mind. Best time to go will be during the month of May, June or September, avoid July and August due to crowds and heat. Amazing building. Italy’s cathedrals never cease to impress me. Every time I go near it I am in awe of its beauty. I would recommend to buy a ticket to climb the tower. With the tower, you’ll still get the view of the Duomo, but perhaps without the day long queues. The morning time is much easier in terms of crowds than evening times. The station was nearly empty, save for the hum of flickering lights and the distant sound of a train approaching. Daniel checked his watch—11:58 PM. The last train home. He stepped onto the platform, gripping a tattered envelope. Inside was a letter he never sent, an apology long overdue. His fingers traced the creases of the paper as the train doors hissed open. Daniel took a seat by the window, staring at his reflection. He had spent years running from mistakes, but tonight felt different. As the train rumbled forward, he finally unfolded the letter and read the words he had once been too afraid to say. “I’m sorry, Emily. For everything.” A deep sigh escaped his lips.
