This historic mansion, built in the early 1900s, had a magical mountaintop setting that felt otherworldly. Touring the house revealed vintage architecture, quirky innovations, and charming décor. The grounds were just as special, with waterfalls, gardens, and trails. The observation decks offered some of the best panoramic views I’ve seen in New England. Located in the mansion’s carriage house, the exhibit gallery showcases historic memorabilia associated with Thomas Plant’s shoe manufacturing career. In addition to touring the mansion, visitors to Castle in the Clouds may enjoy nearly 6,000 acres and 28 miles of hiking trails, duck feeding at the Shannon Pond, and skiing/snowshoeing during the winter months.
