Barcelona's Hidden Architectural Gem: Casa Amatller
Casa Amatller, the neighbor of Gaudi's Casa Batlló, is a striking building that is easy to miss. At first glance, it looks like a chocolate shop and café, but its stunning interior is well worth the €20 ticket price. It's an architectural masterpiece that you shouldn't miss!
The house was owned by the Amatller family, who were known as the "chocolate kings" of the time. It was designed by the famous architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch and built in 1898, with completion in 1900.
The building combines Catalan modernism, Gothic style, and Mudejar Islamic style, with vibrant colors and varied shapes. The stepped design of the facade is inspired by traditional Dutch architecture, and the exterior walls are covered with traditional Catalan relief patterns, rich in detail. The entire building exudes a strong artistic atmosphere, both in its exterior and interior decoration.
