We went to "Candlenut", the first Peranakan restaurant to receive a Michelin star. It's located in the fashionable town of Dempsey Hill in Singapore, inside COMO DEMPSEY, which is packed with famous restaurants. It's a cute restaurant where Peranakan culture is sprinkled throughout the interior, menu, and coasters 🌷 One dish was so spicy that it brought me to tears, but I came across a squid dish that was so delicious that I wanted to eat the whole thing no matter how spicy it was 🍽 My first Peranakan meal was delicious and fun. Candlenut is a Michelin One Star Peranakan food restaurant. Address - 17a Dempsey Rd, Singapore 249676 Ambiance/Facilities - It is situated within the very nice and fancy Dempsey hill area in Singapore. The restaurant ambiance was great and interior design is nice with traditional lanterns and peranakan inspired decorations. Highlights - I ordered the set lunch menu in order to have a taste of signature dishes. I like the Bakwan Kepiting Soup (rich chicken broth with chicken and crab balls), Udang Cili Garam (Prawns) and starter dishes like Kuey Pie Tee. Didn't enjoy Babi Pongteh as there was a strong pork smell. Avg. Price per Person - S$108 onwards for set lunch Rating - 7/10. Came back to candlenut for the second time and this time finally tried the tasting menu. Everything was delicious, Beef Rendang and the curry crab was my absolute favourite, love the flavours of them!

Candlenut is a one Michelin Star Peranakan Restaurant in Singapore. The restaurant serves elevated Peranakan dishes that preserve the essence and complexities of traditional food. The food and service were absolutely incredible, and the ambiance was lovely. The high ceiling makes the dining room feel open and spacious, while bamboo lampshades and wooden tables add a sense of serenity. The staff were attentive and friendly, really knowledgeable about the menu. The Nyonya food was delicious and nicely presented, I love the Blue Swimmer Crab Curry, homemade Kuih Pie Tee, Ngoh Hiang, Wing Bean Salad, Satay and homemade Nyonya kuihs. It is located in the Dempsey area, quiet and peaceful. Pricey but definitely worth trying.
