Yunnan Dali Erhai Lake travel guide is here.
Self-driving itinerary for 2 days at Erhai Lake in Dali | Accommodation and sightseeing guide
.
I have driven to Erhai Lake four times and summarized that there are a total of five suitable accommodation areas in the west and east of the lake.
.
1️⃣Caicun. The advantage of living here is that it is located in the Haixi Ecological Corridor. 3km south of Caicun is the "Longgan Wharf", and 9km north is the "Banxi S Bend". These places are particularly beautiful and you can see the sunrise in the morning. Motor vehicles are not allowed in the Haixi Corridor, so you can walk or ride a bike. The disadvantage of choosing to stay in Caicun is that it is very close to Dali Ancient City, only 4km away. If you stayed in the ancient city for the first two days and drove here, it would be a bit awkward.
2️⃣Xizhou Ancient Town. The advantage of living in Xizhou is the quietness and the feeling of being in a small Bai village. It is also close to Haishetan Park, only 3km away, which makes it convenient to visit the "Couple Tree" for a check-in. I have stayed here twice, and at night, the village is relatively boring, so the only option is to take a walk by the seaside.
3️⃣Shuanglang Ancient Town. This is a scenic area that "combines beauty and talent". Although it is very commercialized, whether you are looking at Erhai Lake, watching the sunset, overlooking Cangshan Mountain, or strolling through the ancient town, tasting food, and enjoying coffee, it is worth your stay. There are two accommodation options in Shuanglang: if you want to be quiet in the bustling area, choose Dajian Village; if you like fireworks and want to go to bars at night, choose Shuanglang Village.
4️⃣Wasezhen. It is close to Xiaoputuo, about 4km away. In winter, there are more people watching seagulls here than seagulls themselves. Accommodation options in this area are limited and can be considered as a backup option.
5️⃣Ideal Country. Known as the "Santorini of China", it is a group of buildings on the mountain slope, with a sense of hierarchy like "terraces". There are very few hotels and homestays inside, and the prices are also very high.
.
After discussing accommodations, let's take a look at the itinerary. If you are staying in Shuanglang, my suggestion is:
☑️On the first day, you can rent a "little donkey" for cycling. Starting from north to south, passing through Luwo Mountain, Wase Town, and Xiaoputuo before returning, the round trip is about 40km. The highlight of this route is Luwo Mountain. After reaching the pass, be sure to park and hike all the way to the lake, reach the abandoned window, then follow a small path to the edge of the cliff, and arrive at the cave.
☑️On the second day, you can drive to Wenbi Village, Ideal State, and Longkan Wharf. The driving distance is about 70km. Drive slowly along the coastal road, roll down your car window, and let the sea breeze blow on your face. Because you know, this is the wind of farewell. Life has always been experiencing farewells, sometimes you leave your hometown, sometimes you bid farewell to your loved ones.

Charm of Yunnan - Cai Village
Getting There - The Cai Village in Dali is a fishing village by the Er sea. From the old city you can easily catch a bus going there anytime in the day.
Cai village is a beautiful and tranquil place where there are mostly local people and long term immigrants from anywhere in the country who are living a peaceful life.
I discovered this village thanks to a friend who is living there. We together went to a local food market (which is there almost every day and you see so much fresh local produce) and we explored the entire village by just walking.
I absolutely enjoyed the peacefulness of this tiny place and would recommend anyone who loves seeing local way of living to visit there as well.

Cai Village is a quiet and beautiful small village which is located in the east of Dali Ancient City and the west bank of Erhai Lake. You can take a boat trip at the pier here, or rent a bicycle to wander around the village, or just sit near the lake enjoying the view and being in the daze.

Boating on the Erhai Lake, known for its 'Wind, Flower, Snow, and Moon,' the relaxation of travel photography sublimates in purity!
🌲As the saying goes, 'Wind in Xiaguan, Flowers in Shangguan, Snow on Cangshan, Moon in Erhai,' these are the four famous sceneries of Dali, with Erhai being one of them. Historically known as Ye Yu Water, West Er River, and Kunmi River, it got its name due to its ear-like shape and is a plateau lake formed by the collapse of the West Er River.
⛩️'Cangshan without ink is a painting of a thousand years, Erhai without strings is an ancient zither,' visiting Erhai in Dali is a must, even if you have passed by many times. So, one afternoon, I took a car to the Caicun Pier in Dali, where I boarded a private yacht. Boating on Erhai, a feeling of 'a gentle breeze comes, the water waves are calm' and 'drifting as one wishes, across the vast expanse' arises spontaneously.
⛳In the water area where the sea and sky are the same color and the blue waves are like a mirror, taking relaxed photos is also a plus for the trip!
✔️Photo Tips:
1⃣️When you board the yacht, the boatman will arrange free photos and embed them in a keychain for you, but you need to pay 30 yuan per photo if you want the photos, choose according to your needs;
2️⃣While boating on Erhai, you can take photos at the bow and stern; the background is a blend of sky and water, with blue sky and white clouds, giving a pure and serene feeling;
3⃣️The yacht has two levels, standing at the bow and taking photos from the second level gives a stronger sense of the scene;
4⃣️Casual shots capture the scenery of 'mountains connected to water, water connected to mountains, mountains and water connected without end, the lake and mountain reflections are picturesque';
5⃣️The Caicun area has grasslands, flowers, and Bai ethnic residences, all good for photography;
6⃣️In the evening, you can capture spectacular sunsets and evening glows;
7⃣️For clothing, the background here is clean, so wear brightly colored clothes, and bring a straw hat and sunglasses;
8⃣️Sun protection is especially important, the deck is very sunny, so wear sun-protective clothing and sleeves.
📍Address: East end of Yuehua Road, Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province
⏰Opening hours: Open all day
💰Ticket price: Varies depending on the duration of the trip;
🚗Transportation: Take the Urban-Rural Line 2 bus (Dali University - Caicun Pier) at the Bo'ai Road Station in the ancient city, get off at the terminal and walk 100 meters forward to reach Caicun Pier.

🌟 Dali's Delights: Serene Lakes and Cultural Gems 🏞️🎭
Erhai Lake 🚣♂️
Imagine a tranquil evening stroll by the serene Erhai Lake, where you can rent a bike and cruise around at your leisure. Opt for an enriching boat tour, with a brief yet beautiful stop at Nanzhao Customs Island and a final dock at Shuanglang Town. For those seeking a longer journey, the morning sail offers more to see. Stay at the Dali Qing Mai Hai Scenic Resort for a room with a stunning sea view, perfect for catching both sunrise and sunset over the lake. 📍No. 1 Henan Road, Xiaguan, Dali
Nanzhao Customs Island 🏝️
A quick boat ride takes you to this small island rich in history and panoramic views of Erhai Lake and Cangshan. Take a leisurely walk from Shuanglang Ancient Town to the island, enjoying the scenery along the way. While the island's historical exhibits may be modest, the photo opportunities are plentiful, especially of the Sun Palace from afar. 📍Fengqing Island, Shuanglang Town, Dali City
Splash Manor, Dali 🌼
This picturesque estate is a treasure trove of photo ops, with adorable alpacas, peacocks, and a range of Instagram-worthy spots like swings, a love ladder, and a glass chapel. Revel in the beauty of hydrangea blooms and enjoy activities like kayaking. It's a delightful escape for both adults and kids. 📍50 meters west of Yuehua Road, Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture
Cai Village 🌅
An unplanned detour to Cai Village might lead you to its peaceful shores at dawn. The village offers a direct route to Dali Ancient Town and breathtaking views of the sunrise over Erhai Lake. Explore the nearby flower fields or take a cruise from Longkan Wharf. It's a perfect spot to soak in the local culture and natural beauty. 📍Dali, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture

Dali Residence PLAN | Starting now, officially begins!
Starting now, officially begins!. Took some photos of the crowd in Caicun
Although it's not a sea of people, the weather is quite good today
There are really quite a few people taking photos by the seaside
Starting today
My Dali residence life officially begins. I will record and share my experiences through images and words. I hope you will like it.
If you also want to come to Dali for a residence, feel free to communicate in the comments section. If you are already living in Dali and happen to be near Caicun, we can arrange meals or runs, no problem at all.
There are two groups of folk singers near Caicun Pier
They perform every evening from six or seven until ten at night. Sitting by Erhai, listening to songs and feeling the breeze
is extremely lazy and comfortable.

Yunnan Tourism | Dali Cangshan Mountains and Erhai Lake
I'll start by helping everyone avoid the pitfalls of Dali!
📍Note:
1⃣The west side of Erhai Lake is the only route for cycling around the lake, no outside vehicles are allowed, it's very safe, and the scenery is particularly beautiful! 🤩 (Longkan Wharf: sunrise→Caicun→S-shaped bay: refuel→Xizhou Ancient Town: sunset)
2⃣Comprehensive sun protection! Physical barriers + sunscreen! Remember to bring a hat with a string!
3⃣Dali's Santorini is very photogenic! The style of European architecture and ethnic buildings, every corner is a scene.
4⃣Make sure to check your hotel and the places you want to visit, plan ahead! Don't waste time on the road!
5⃣Tourists with luggage should avoid staying in the ancient city, as the cobblestone roads make it difficult to drag luggage. Stay alert to people who approach you proactively.
6⃣Be careful when buying silver ornaments in scenic areas, it's easy to get cheated if you can't tell the quality.
7⃣In the scenic area, if you see cartoon characters wanting to take photos with you, remember to keep your distance.
📍Transportation:
🚅High-speed train: Get off at Dali Station, then exit to the blue sign where you can take the No. 8 bus to the East Gate/North Gate, or take a direct bus to the scenic area.
✈Airplane: Dali has an airport, direct flights are available, but the airport is quite far from the ancient city, though closer to Xiaguan. If you have time, you can experience the nightlife of Xiaguan.
🚖However, transportation in Dali is not very convenient, many places are not accessible by bus. 😢
📍Recommended off-the-beaten-path photo spots in Dali:
📷Zhemoshan: Dali's city of music, with beautiful scenery, you can drive up there, and overlook the entire Xiaguan city and Erhai Lake...
📷Xingsheng Bridge: A white Gothic-style bridge, with a Seine River atmosphere, great for portrait photography...
📷Cang'er Avenue: A road next to Dali University, from which you can see through Erhai Lake at a glance, with an excellent view...
📷Longkan Wharf: A beautiful place in Dali to watch the sunrise, with flocks of seagulls in winter, and after the sunrise, you can take beautiful photos by the sea...
📷Wase Wharf: A good spot along Erhai Lake to watch the sunset, with many abandoned iron ships, and the nearby grove is very photogenic, bursting with a sense of story and art...
MAVERICK CRAWFORD
Cycling through Dali's ecological corridor
In the west of Dali Lake, corridor cycling is a must-have experience.
Rent a small electric scooter from Longkan Pier, honestly, it saves much more effort than a bicycle. Head north, towards the direction of Xi Zhou. The next stops are Cai Village and the S-curve of Panxi.
The construction of the ecological corridor is quite good, with smooth and rhythmic roads. It meanders forward, with small villages on the left hand and Erhai Lake on the right. Now and then there's a large green space, then water fir trees, then wild ducks., and then a vast expanse of wildflowers🌸... Truly a feast for the eyes!
Seagulls fly around Cai Village Pier, and tourists take photos to commemorate the moment. The flying seagulls and the feeding tourists truly showcase the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
The weather is a bit overcast, and soon a drizzle starts to fall, brushing gently against the face unexpectedly, which is quite comfortable.
When you turn a corner and the sun pierces through the thick clouds, casting down a spectacular Tyndall effect, you can't help but stop to admire it. At that moment, you'll feel that all the rain, the overcast skies, and the hardships of cycling are worth it for this beautiful encounter.

Yunnan Travel Guide: A Road Trip Northward
Finally arrived at a place with wind~✈️
After landing in Kunming, I headed straight for the Haigeng Dam. Unfortunately, the seagulls seemed to have had their fill in the afternoon, but that didn't stop me from capturing a beautiful sunset photo🌇.
Next, I started my official road trip, taking the high-speed train from Kunming to Dali Station, and then picking up a car nearby. The first stop was Fengyang Yip, where I checked in at the windy courtyard🏡. This is a courtyard on the ancient Tea Horse Road and a major filming location for TV dramas. Remember to make a reservation in advance! For homestays in Cai Village, I recommend choosing the sea view homestay in Baizi's residence in Cai Village. The ecological corridor of Erhai Lake is right in front of the homestay, where you can ride a small electric motorcycle or bicycle freely, and you can also watch the sunrise on the rooftop of the homestay🌅.
Strolling leisurely along the Hai Xi Ecological Corridor, Erhai Lake is full of beautiful scenery everywhere, experiencing ethnic portraits, and enjoying the leisurely time of blowing the wind by Erhai Lake. Go to Xizhou Ancient Town, about twenty kilometers away from Cai Village. I still recommend driving by yourself. The wheat field in Xizhou is the main check-in place. Remember to buy a balloon🎈 to add atmosphere! On the way from Cai Village to Xizhou, you will pass the Chongsheng Temple Three Pagodas.
Arriving in Lijiang, go to Yuhu Village, which is the first village under the snow mountain, very quiet, and you can watch the starry sky at night⭐. You can directly see the snow mountain from the rooftop of the homestay🏔️. Then, I went to the Yulong Snow Mountain Scenic Area and checked in at Yunshanping and Blue Moon Valley. Under the sun, Blue Moon Valley is particularly stunning, while Yunshanping gives people a sense of returning to the beautiful scenery of Tibet.
Finally, go to Lugu Lake, which is said to be the prototype of the Daughter Country, the matriarchal clan settlement of the Mosuo people, and also the highest altitude lake in the mainland. Along the way, you will pass the Jin'an Jinsha River Bridge. Don't forget to admire the model of the infrastructure madman! Playing cable cars and island tours in Lugu Lake are highly recommended, especially when the weather is good. Lugu Lake is a national first-class drinking water source, and the lake water is clear and sweet, which is worth tasting.
The entire Yunnan trip is full of beautiful scenery and surprises, looking forward to feeling the charm of this land again in the off-season. Traveling heals our souls and fills our lives with color and hope!🌿🌞🌺

Dali Travel Nanny-level Guide
Two adults and one child went to Dali and Xichang for eight days and seven nights, spending a total of 5200 yuan. My friends all asked me to write a guide to learn some money-saving tips, so here I am, come in and copy your homework.
✈️How to get to Dali:
💰Super money-saving plan: Chengdu→Guangtong North, sleeper ticket price 178. Sleep for a night and you'll arrive, take the high-speed train from Guangtong North to Dali, the journey takes one hour and 15 minutes, the ticket price is 66 yuan. Isn't it fragrant to buy delicious food with the money saved?
🏨Where to stay in Dali?
This time in Dali, we changed four places, the ancient city, Cai Village, Wase, Shuanglang. Here are the pros and cons of these places:
1. The ancient city is very convenient, close to everywhere. It is recommended to stay in the ancient city on the first day you arrive in Dali;
2. Cai Village, close to Haixi Ecological Corridor, convenient for watching the sunrise, cycling, not far from the ancient city; highly recommend Cai Village!
3. Shuanglang Ancient Town: Beautiful scenery, slightly expensive, you can find some cost-effective homestays.
4. Near Xiaoputuo, Wase Town, the scenery is very good, open the window is the sea. High cost performance. But it's not very convenient to travel, there are not many attractions around. Suitable for people who like quiet, sunbathing, daze and slow life to live. The feeling of stealing half a day of leisure.
❤️It is recommended to stay in Haixi for two days, Cai Village or Dali Ancient City, and then stay in Haidong for one to two days, Wase Town or Shuanglang Ancient Town. Because Haixi and Haidong in Dali have their own characteristics, if time permits, stay in both places to feel it.
🌅Three-day itinerary guide is here:
Day1. From various places to Dali, visit Dali Ancient City, climb Wuhua Tower to overlook, visit Bedsheet Factory Art District, braid a colorful braid, eat some Dali snacks, bait block, milk fan can try. In the evening, it is recommended to eat Dai-flavored hand-grabbed rice, the one I ate is called Daiyuan, the environment is good, the photo is good, you can also wear Dai costumes for free photos.
Day 2. Haixi tour. Watch the sunrise in Cai Village, it is recommended to go out at 7:30 to take a taxi. After watching the sunrise, have breakfast, officially start the lake cycling. Outside electric cars 🛵 can't get in, cars can't get in. It is recommended to rent a shared electric car inside, 15 yuan per hour. The route is Cai Village→S Bay→Langqiao→Haijiao Park. Then take a tricycle to Xizhou Ancient Town. Visit Xizhou Ancient Town in the afternoon. Then take a minibus at the entrance of Xizhou Ancient Town back to the ancient city, 10 yuan per person.
Day3. Depart for Wase Town. The distance is far, take a ride. Go to Xiaoputuo to feed the seagulls, daze in the sea view room.
Day4. Depart for Shuanglang, visit Shuanglang Ancient Town.
Day5. Go to live in Cai Village, play in Haixi again.
Day 6. High-speed rail station→Xichang

Cai Village Pier in Dali, Yunnan - The distant place you yearn for
Cai Village is located on the east side of the ancient city of Dali in Dali Town, Dali City, Yunnan Province, on the west bank of Erhai Lake, with more than 3 kilometers of coastline under its jurisdiction. The total population of the village is more than 7,100, with a cultivated area of 3,250 mu. The Bai people living here have been fishing for generations. Cai Village is adjacent to Erhai Lake, and one side has been transformed into Erhai Wetland Park by the government. The Cai Village Scenic Area mainly relies on the Erhai Wetland Park. Relying on natural beauty and cultural aura, there are more than 120 guesthouses of various types in the village, and more than 20 restaurants. It is the largest tourist scenic spot in the Bai ethnic villages around Erhai Lake, and it is also the natural primitive village with the most visitors.
Cai Village and Wa Village are two villages connected together. There are well-preserved temples of the God of Wealth, the Lord, Kui Xing Pavilion, and clan ancestral halls in the village. Through the transformation organized by the local government, Cai Village has opened up tourist attractions, and many tourists who come to Dali will specifically find Cai Village to visit this wetland park. On festivals, the villagers still maintain the traditional customs of the Bai nationality, such as dragon dance and sacrifice, which are more authentic.

Lesser-known photo spots in Dali to avoid tourists! Immerse yourself in a painting
People who come to Dali like to flock to Longkan Wharf.
In fact, there are many beautiful places in the Erhai Ecological Corridor.
Recommended lesser-known and photogenic treasure spot
📍The location is between Caicun and Panxi Village, Majiu Yi - Xiajiyi section.
There are no flocking tourists, no excessive commerce, here retains the Dali's legacy and tranquility.
-
【About Photography】
✅Here is the largest lawn of the Erhai Ecological Corridor, with a wide view and excellent angle for shooting Cangshan Mountain.
✅There are also large areas of S-shaped stone beaches here, where you can capture the reflection of people in the blue waves of Erhai.
✅Highly recommend picture 3, this long corridor, the endless road has a sense of story.
✅Picture 6, this lonely tree is right at the entrance of the homestay, now the gradual color is very beautiful.

【About Play】
Xiajiyi Village➡️Caicun Wharf➡️Longkan Wharf
This cycling route is 6 kilometers in total, taking photos and playing along the way takes about half a day, very suitable for leisurely travel.
-
【About Accommodation】
I stayed at Dali Wuyun Designer Sea View Hotel.
Located on the edge of Erhai in Xiajiyi Village.
Facing west and east, you don't have to get up early and rush to see the sunrise just by pulling the curtains.
If it's too hot at noon, you can drink coffee and watch Erhai on the first floor of the homestay.

SLOAN MORAN
Do you still remember the scene of renting a wind-powered mini tricycle in the embarrassing situation of "Impressive" in the movie? Blue sky and white clouds, the endless fields, coupled with the looming Cangshan in the distance, the clouds change, the scenery of the water and the sky, it feels like gliding in the air. The villages and tile villages in the movie are two villages connected together. The village now has a well-preserved Fortuna Temple, Benzhu Temple, Kuixing Pavilion, and Zongxing Temple. Nowadays, through the transformation of government organizations, Cai Village has opened up tourist attractions. Many tourists who visit Dali will also find the village in order to visit this wetland park. During the festival, the villagers still maintain the traditional customs of the Bai people. The dragon dances and sacrifices are all more original.
Houdao_No.1.
The village next to the ancient city of Dali, there are a lot of net red cafes, but also a good place to shoot flowers.
cai Village is located in Huanxi West Road in Dali, and is the closest place to Haixi to the ancient city.
You can get a battery car in the ancient city. There are many flower fields here, so it is easy to take beautiful photos.
