Be prepared for a really long queue if you want to sit inside at the very heavily photographed, air-conditioner hanok-style cafe/seating area. However if you just want to grab something fast to go or have something quick to sit at the tables outside, there is a shorter and much faster queue to the right. We only wanted a quick breakfast at the tables outside and were in the shorter queue for less than 5 minutes. The pastries really live up to their fame and all freshly baked - very enjoyable. The coffee and non-coffee lattes were also nice and hot BUT the drinks took such a long time to be ready - which would be my only complaint as we were almost done with our breakfast when the drinks were finally ready. Worth visiting for pastries to go in my view.

There are many cafe in Seoul and we visited a few but personally I prefer Cafe Onion for the good coffee and pastry! Beautiful cafe with traditional architecture attracts tourist to come and take photo and enjoy a modern-traditional house to have a tea and bakery. Love the chocolate latte - chocolate with a hint of earl grey. Pastries were alright. I was there at 9.30am, and there’s already a queue outside the cafe, didn’t have to wait too long because queue rather short but not sure if you come later 😉

Another highly recommended cafe in Korea that you should visit early in the morning to secure a seat is Onion Cafe. Today, we visited the Anguk branch located in the old town area. This branch is decorated in a traditional Korean house style with open glass windows, perfect for those who love taking photos. You can wear traditional Korean outfits for a more authentic photo experience. Upon arrival, it's recommended to find a seat first, then choose your pastries and order drinks, queue up to pay, and then take photos afterward. The signature pastry here is called pandor, a bread without filling, sprinkled with powdered sugar. However, since I don't like it, I didn't order it. Instead, I opted for savory items and two drinks. The taste is quite good, and the prices are standard for Korea. Location: Anguk Station, Subway Exit 2

This is a record of my trip to Korea in October. Since it was a 4-day, 3-night trip, I was able to leisurely explore Seoul. I prepared for the cold weather, but it was actually very warm and comfortable. cafe onion Since it was a weekday, the wait time wasn't too long. The bread was large, so I shared it with a friend. Sinseon Seolleongtang I visited first thing in the morning, but there was a wait despite the early hour. Most of the customers seemed to be Japanese. Converse Myeongdong was as unwelcoming as ever. Lotte World was more friendly, with a wide variety of customization options. cafe layered It's cute, but since it's buttercream, those who don't like it might want to avoid it. Nundong Minari The top recommendation of this trip. The yukhoe was exceptionally delicious, and unlike Japanese parsley, it was soft and easy to eat. There was also plenty of rice underneath, making it a very satisfying meal. I went right after it opened, so there was no wait, but a long line formed afterward, so I recommend going early. Every place was not only visually appealing but also very stylish and delicious. Even though I was full, I still wanted to eat... what should I do... a happy dilemma 🤤 Unlike Japan, the bread sizes are larger, so be careful.

The cafe is divided into a seating area, a bakery section, and a coffee bar. It operates on a self-service basis, where you select your bread and order, then move to the seating area. You need to take off your shoes when entering the seating area and return your tray after dining. The staff will help you open and close the door and assist you with your tray when they see you returning it. The Snow Mountain Pandoro is one of the more well-known breads, covered in powdered sugar and resembling a snow mountain. Be careful when picking it up, or you might cause an avalanche like I did 🥲. There are many beautiful and delicious bread varieties, making it hard to choose, and I spent a lot of time deciding ε-(´∀｀; ). It's worth coming back to try other breads. Highly recommended!!! This is a very special cafe. Its clearly very popular, so expect crowds and ques. However, the cafe's design is spacious with plenty of seating options, and many people don't stay long, so the line moves quite fast. You might spend more time in line to pay for your goods, but that's not too bad. It's a different kind of experience. Owing to its popularity, it seems they dont have to have very high quality products, most hings i tasted dont compare at all to good bakery items. Yet so many people buying. Most likely people who rarely eat these things. Having said so there were some decent items. The hazelnut cream was nice and the dough itself was perfect. I also sampled a pistachio bread made with natural pistachio paste, it delicious. Plus, all items are jumbo-sized, that makes them great value for money. #familytrips2024 While strolling around Bukchon and arriving Anguk, we came across this famous cafe called Cafe Onion which has a traditional design of Hanok. This cafe is a bakery themed cafe, selling many kinds of breads and pastries. As the name implies, we have secided to get the Onion Cream Cheese Bagel with Americano for sharing, as we do not want to fill our tummy with too much food before dinner. The bagel is very chewy with very generous spread of cream cheese and shredded onions. The ambience is also lovely full of traditional vibes, and we really love this place. We will definitely visit again should we have the chance to tour that area.

Here is a round-up of some of my favourites - with the best interiors, sweetest desserts, and above all, top-tier vibes. 1 & 2: Cafe Onion Anguk Where else can you enjoy sweet treats in a traditional hanok-style building? This is possibly one of the most famous cafe in Seoul, and for good reason: the vibes are unmatched! You get to take off your shoes, sit in a little patio, and enjoy fresh bakes. Pandoro is a signature, but the fruit-stuffed crossiant is a clear winner - with juicy sweetness in every bite. Pro tip: Come towards dinner time (around 4-5pm) to skip the crowd! 3 & 4: Cafe Margaret Floral-themed cafe in Yeonnam-dong. This place has plenty of Instagrammable backdrops all around. The garden has a fountain and plenty of colourful blooms, while the second floor has an outdoor balcony that overlooks the street (might even spot some cherry blossom). Do note that the cube croissant is only available in the late morning, and there is a minimum order of one drink per person if you choose to dine in. 5 & 6: Oats Coffee Hands down the best drink you will have!!! The einspanner is a must-get, with sweet foam that is fluffy like clouds! Super fragrant and addictive! The menu is also rather concise; bakes comprise mostly of scones, but they are done well. The chives cream cheese is a savoury option that complements the coffee well. Plus the cafe is located in a quaint little house - super adorable! 7 & 8: Cafe Highwaist Apparently Jennie from Blackpink and BTS’ Jungkook got their birthday cakes from this cafe!! And can you blame them? The bakes are so friggin cute: topped with shapes of teddy bear and dogs and cats. The whole placed exuded a strong cottage-core aesthetic - really nice place to sit down and people-watch. 9 & 10: Cheongsudang Cafe What a zen atmosphere you’ll find here! This cafe is basically surrounded by a garden, with moving water and lush greenery - step inside and you will feel at ease. Inside, there are tables and hanok-style seatings to choose from. And their cakes are sweet and should be shared! And their soufflé cake is freshly made upon order, so expect a waiting time of around 20 minutes. 11 & 12: Soha Salt Pond If there is one thing that you need to get from this cafe, let it be the salt bread. It is soooo good, especially when they come out fresh from the oven. The salt flakes on the bread add an addictive crunch! They also have a lot of other variants, like mentaiko or chives. Located in Anguk, this cafe is very popular and always crowded. But I was lucky that I went around 3pm. There was only one queue. I ordered a strawberry croissant. It was delicious. The bread was crunchy but still soft. and unsweetened cream cut with strawberry, mild sour taste make the taste go together well. This store accepts card payments. There is an air-conditioned seat. and good service staff There are people waiting to queue for you. Travel is very easy.
