[Honsakura Castle] One of Japan's Top 100 Castles, a famous castle standing on a small hill
[Motosakura Castle] Motosakura Castle towered on a hill.
It is one of Japan's Top 100 Castles. Looking up from below, it is easy to imagine that it is a little high and difficult to attack, but looking from above, you can see the surroundings.
It seems that the sea used to be up to this point, and shipping was also well developed.
Volunteers used VR to give us a very easy-to-understand explanation, so we were able to imagine what it would be like to attack the castle afterwards.

A popular spring event where colorful tulips bloom around the Dutch windmills.
Sakura Tulip Festa
April 1st (Tue) - 20th (Sun) 2025
About 600,000 colorful tulips of about 100 varieties are in full bloom against the backdrop of the Dutch windmills.
Things to note if you go by public transport ⚠️
About 15 minutes by bus from Keikyu Sakura Station
There are also special buses at this time of year.
There are only about two buses per hour, so it's best to check the return bus times before visiting.
This year, the tulips are blooming quite late,
and the Tulip Festival has been extended.
It's amazing that you can see tulips on such a large scale for free.
I think it's only possible because of the tearful efforts of the people who manage them.
In the tulip digging area,
10 tulips are sold for 500 yen.
They come with bulbs so you can plant them when you get home.
Also, the windmill was facing the opposite direction on this day,
so it's a shame that I couldn't take a picture of the windmill facing forward with the many tulips 😢
It's a wonderful spot that I'd like to visit again.

Chasing Tulips at Sakura Furusato Square
#cherryblossom25 🌷 It’s Tulip Time in Chiba! 🌷
While we’re still waiting for the cherry blossoms to fully bloom, you can enjoy another spring flower display at Sakura Furusato Square right now! Over 700,000 tulips of around 100 different varieties surround the square's windmill during the tulip festival, which started on March 27th and is expected to continue until April 21st. The grounds here are free to enter, but if you’re looking for another activity to do while you’re here, you can rent a bicycle and ride around the lake that's right next to the windmill. Sakura is located between Tokyo and Narita Airport, making it a great day-trip destination for a spring day out in nature!

📍 DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art
The DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art is a private museum in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. It stores and exhibits the collections of three generations of the Kawamura family, including Kijuro Kawamura, and is operated by DIC Corporation.
It was established on the premises of DIC's general research institute to display art collected by DIC and its affiliated companies, and opened on May 2, 1990.
It was formerly known as the Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art.
The museum building, designed by Ebihara Ichiro, one of Japan's leading modernist architects, stands in a garden of about 10,000 square meters that makes use of the Satoyama topography of Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture.
The news spread that the museum, which has been loved in this area for a long time since its opening in 1990, will close on March 31, 2025.
I visited the museum with the hope of getting a last look at the Rothko Room and Frank Stella's works before the closure.
There were 50 to 60 people lined up at the bus stop that goes directly from Tokyo Station to the museum, and an air of quiet excitement was in the air.
Unfortunately, photography is not permitted anywhere inside the museum.
We were only able to take photos of the exterior and garden.
The museum is closed, and there is a possibility that it will remain closed.
I'm really glad that I was able to visit this time!
There is still some time before the museum closes, so
please be sure to check it out!

[Sakura, Chiba] Iris flowers at Sakura Castle Ruins Park🌿✨
Sakura Castle Park is a park rich in nature that spreads out over the historic ruins of Sakura Castle. The cherry blossoms are beautiful in spring, and the irises are in full bloom in early summer. 💜 The iris fields in the park are filled with colorful flowers that sway in the wind, creating a very picturesque sight. The contrast between the historic stone walls and earthworks and the pretty irises is fascinating. The spacious park is perfect for a stroll, and you can enjoy nature at your leisure. ✨ The National Museum of Japanese History is nearby, so it's a spot where you can enjoy history and nature. 🎶

Traffic Guide 🚗
The transportation to the art museum is relatively complicated. It is recommended to choose to drive by yourself or check and book the bus time on the official website in advance before departure. There are direct buses from Tokyo Station and shuttle buses from Sakura Station. Please refer to the official website for specific times.
Opening hours 🕒
The museum is open from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. It is recommended to go early because there are rich works here and the courtyard is very suitable for taking pictures. You can appreciate and take beautiful photos.
Building Features 🏛
The exterior design of the DIC Kawamura Museum of Art is very unique, designed by the famous modernist architect Ichiro Ebihara. The whole building is full of geometric beauty, with very delicate lines and shapes. The two small green spires are its iconic design and are very cute.
Indoor environment 🖼
The interior design of the art gallery focuses more on the display of artworks, creating a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. The interior decoration combines modernist style and uses many Louis Poulsen lamps. Industrial style lovers will definitely like it!
Art Collection 🎨
The art collection here is extremely rich, ranging from 17th century portraits of Rembrandt, to Impressionist paintings by Monet, Renoir and other artists, to Western modern art by Picasso, Chagall and other artists, and even artworks created by many countries in the late 20th century, covering the entire scope of modern art history. It is particularly worth mentioning that this may be the place in Tokyo with the largest collection of Dadaism and Surrealism works. Tourists who like this type of art style should not miss it.
Special Exhibitions✨
Various special exhibitions are often held here, such as Albers's color teaching special exhibition and Nishikawa Katsuto's planned exhibition, which are not to be missed by art lovers.
Courtyard scenery 🌳
The courtyard of the art museum is a fusion of nature and architectural art, and it is incredibly beautiful. The fountains, lakes and swans make you feel as if you are in some corner of Europe. The four-season flowers and plants and the 30,000-square-meter courtyard make the ticket more than worth it.
Dining facilities 🍽
There is an attached western restaurant in the art museum that serves hardcore French cuisine. You can choose to order a set meal or a la carte, including appetizers and coffee/tea, the price is about 3500 yen, which is very cost-effective! However, it is recommended to make an appointment in advance, otherwise you may have to wait for a long time.
Travel suggestions 💡
Plan your time in advance to avoid missing out on more exciting things.
Friends who like taking photos can take more beautiful photos in the courtyard.
Friends who are particularly interested in art can check the current exhibition information on the official website in advance so that they can visit more targetedly.
The DIC Kawamura Museum of Art is really a great place close to Tokyo and a small place to visit. The environment and artworks here are very suitable for a day trip and it is a great opportunity to touch art. 🎉

National Museum of Japanese History: A Journey from Ancient to Modern Times
The National Museum of Japanese History (Rekihaku) is located within Sakura Castle Park in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. The location itself evokes a sense of history.
The exhibits cover Japanese folk history from the time humans first settled in Japan to the present day, divided into six extensive exhibition areas. Numerous accurate replicas are on display, allowing visitors to see items that would normally require visits to various museums across Japan, all in one place. This is one of Rekihaku's main attractions. It feels like experiencing a history textbook in real life.
The Jomon period clay figurines are a must-see. It's astonishing to think that these generous and artistic figurines were made in Japan over 6,000 years ago. Despite their different ages, many of these figurines are related to pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and child-rearing. The Jomon period exhibits are endlessly fascinating, featuring figurines with different facial features and shapes compared to modern Japanese people.
The museum also covers international relations during the Age of Exploration, the Wako pirates, and the introduction of firearms, highlighting how interactions with East Asia and the West often significantly influenced Japanese history.
This time, I only had time to visit exhibition rooms 1 to 3. Unfortunately, I had to skip rooms 4 to 6, which cover folk, modern, and contemporary history.

A must-see power spot✨Go here in the Year of the Dragon🐉! A hidden shrine with a spectacular group of sculptures🥹Bonus🅿️Map included❗️
Sakizaki Washi Shrine, tucked away in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, is a hidden gem filled with history and art. The charm of this shrine can be summed up in one word: the impressive group of sculptures that decorate the main hall. In particular, the powerfully carved ascending and descending dragons captivate visitors with their power and sense of life. These dragon sculptures symbolize divine power and rebirth, and infuse the entire shrine with lively energy. The sculptures in the main hall are not just beautiful. The story depicted on all four sides is based on the theme of the slaying of the demons of Mt. Oe, and by following the story that continues from the east to the north, west, and south (front), you can experience the depth of Japanese tradition and culture. It truly serves as a place to inherit not only faith, but also history and culture. Sakizaki Washi Shrine hides its beauty in the silence, providing visitors with peace of mind and artistic impressions. Because it is not easy to access, it is rare to encounter other worshippers no matter when you visit, making it a truly "hidden gem."
This year is the Year of the Dragon. This is a great opportunity to receive the blessings of the dragon god that resides at Sakizakiwashi Shrine. Find true healing at the Kawamura DIC Museum of Art.
The Kawamura DIC Museum of Art is located about 30 minutes away by free shuttle bus from Sakura Station. Limousine buses are also available from Tokyo. The wonderful collection is lavishly displayed in the beautiful exhibition rooms, which are carefully designed to be illuminated with natural light. In particular, the Rothko Room, which was created for Mark Rothko's Seagram mural, is more of an experience than a viewing experience. It brings a moment of meditation. Walking through the vast, beautiful garden, you can see the sunlight filtering through the trees and the cute seasonal flowers and birds. Due to the widespread news of the temporary closure in January, there are many people. However, the large grounds and exhibitions have been relaxed, and there is no rush to view the exhibits. I hope that the museum will continue to exist here, and I hope that as many people as possible will experience the splendor of this place. #museum #dickawamuramemorialmuseum #chibaprefecture #sakuracity #garden #solotravel

"Sakura City Museum of Art - I'm amazed"
#Tokyo Attractions
The exterior of the Sakura City Museum of Art presents an elegant Western style, with white walls and green roofs, which is particularly eye-catching in the surrounding natural landscape. The building design skillfully combines Japanese and Western elements, reflecting the architectural characteristics of the Meiji period.
The museum mainly collects and displays Western art, including oil paintings, sculptures and prints. I particularly appreciated several works by famous European painters of the 19th century. Their rich colors and delicate brushstrokes were truly amazing.
In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum also holds special exhibitions from time to time, showcasing art works from different periods and genres.
