Historic buildings

The Grand Blue Building is the landmark of Zhang's Mansion. It was built between 1918 and 1922. It is an imitation Romanesque building. Because it was built with blue bricks, it was called the Grand Blue Building. The Grand Blue Building is 37 meters high and was one of the highest points in Fengtian City at that time. The overall building is magnificent, with vivid three-dimensional reliefs on the outside and exquisite craftsmanship. The murals in the main rooms inside are decorated with unique techniques and have high artistic value. The Grand Blue Building integrates office and residence. As an important office place during the period when Zhang Zuolin and Zhang Xueliang, father and son, ruled the Northeast, it has experienced major historical events such as the two Zhili-Fengtian Wars, the Northeast Flag Change, the execution of Yang and Chang, and the armed mediation of the Central Plains War. The Tiger Hall here has to be mentioned. A pair of tigers (specimens) stand side by side. The "tigers" were originally given to Zhang Zuolin, the "King of the Northeast" by his subordinate Tang Yulin. It was the place where Yang Yuting and Chang Yinhuai were executed at that time. It was named because there were tigers in the hall. One of the tiger specimens is now kept in Shenyang Tongze Middle School, and the other has disappeared because it was not properly preserved. This place contains rich historical connotations and is a witness and epitome of the modern history of Northeast China.
