This Chinese New Year in Penang...Nyongya Style Chinese Food
#ChineseNewYear2023
When you come to Penang, the food you can't miss is the food. Here, Indian, Chinese and Niangya food are prominent.
Niangya is a Peranakan menu, which is a Chinese people who immigrated to Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and southern Thailand. There is a cultural fusion of Chinese and local food.
Niangya food in Malaysia and Singapore is mixed with local spices. In southern Thailand, such as Phuket, coconut milk is added to make it more intense.
Today, I tried Niangya food at Bibik's Crusine. There are both savory and sweet menus. I ordered Renddan chicken curry and fish curry, 2 menus. The taste is not spicy like Thai food and the spices are quite intense.
Another menu with coconut milk is pineapple shrimp curry. It is sour and sweet, like the pineapple curry I had in Thailand, but not as spicy.
In addition to Peranakan food, later I had the opportunity to try Cha Kuay Tiew (fried noodles) and an Indian menu, Tsunami Roti. Every menu is delicious.
Penang is a land of food. When you come, you must try all types. Then you will reach the real Penang.
