The highlights were definitely the panda exhibit and the lion enclosure. The zoo is massive, so we took our time exploring, stopping for a picnic at one of the green spaces inside. The layout is easy to navigate with strollers, and there’s a fantastic playground where the kids burned off some energy. After the zoo, we explored nearby Tiergarten Park, which was a perfect way to wind down the day. Our first stop was the Berlin Zoological Garden, located near the famous Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. This zoo is home to over 20,000 animals from around the globe, and its central location makes it a perfect starting point for an animal-centric day. We found the best time to visit was in the early morning when the animals are more active, and the light is perfect for capturing stunning photographs 📸 of creatures like giant pandas 🐼 polar bears🐻❄️ and rare birds 🦅 The zoo’s lush greenery and iconic enclosures also make it a photographer’s paradise. It has more than 8,000 animals, including polar bears, giraffes, zebras, rhinos, flamingos... I saw polar bears swimming and eating watermelons🍉 The souvenir shop has many cute polar bear products and various animal products. For friends who like animals, it is worth a visit. The park is very spacious, the animals' living quarters are also large, and each animal area is some distance apart. There are also many open spaces. The entrance fee was €17.50 for adults, which I found to be quite reasonable considering the wide variety of animals and attractions. With over 20,000 animals from more than 1,000 species, I felt like I was on a mini world tour! 🦁 The panda exhibit was a personal favorite—seeing those giant pandas munch on bamboo was just too adorable! The zoo is really well-maintained, with beautiful green spaces and ponds. I spent hours walking around, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and snapping photos of everything from elephants to exotic birds. Don’t miss the Aquarium Berlin, which is part of the zoo—it’s got an amazing collection of marine life, reptiles, and even a rainforest section 🐠. It’s perfect for a rainy day, which is a bonus in a city known for its unpredictable weather. After the zoo, I strolled over to the Tiergarten Park right next door. It’s a great spot to relax, have a picnic, or just enjoy nature. The Berlin Zoological Garden, known as Zoologischer Garten Berlin, is one of the oldest and most renowned zoos in the world. Established in 1844, it is the oldest zoo in Germany. It is situated in the center of Berlin, near the Tiergarten park. The zoo covers 35 hectares (86.5 acres). Home to over 20,000 animals of around 1,200 species, making it one of the most comprehensive collections of species globally. The Berlin Zoo includes a large aquarium that features various marine and freshwater species. The zoo is actively involved in conservation projects and breeding programs for endangered species.

I went with my family in dec 2014 to Berlin Zoo and it was an amazing experience specially the aquarium. There is a separate ticket you need to buy to visit the aquarium section and it is indeed worth going to the aquarium section. My kid enjoyed a lot by seeing several types of fishes. Specially the varieties of Jelly Fishes were mind blowing. I think this (the collection of fishes etc) would be the best in Europe, I assume. Even the Giraffe section was very good. It is worth spending 5-6 hrs in this zoo. This zoo is fantastic. I was so impressed by the large enclosures and the effort the zoo has gone to to match the enclosures to the animals' natural habitats in the wild. The zoo is very good value for money and has little photo machines dotted around the zoo so you can create your own postcard to send home or to keep as a souvenir. The petting zoo is a lot of fun! :)
