[2025 Banaue Attraction] Travel Guide for Batad Rice Terraces (Updated Jul)

Batad is unique in that its rice terraces are stone-walled and it is a round valley offering 360° view if you are at the centre or panoramic view if you are on the side/cliff. I chose to stay here instead of Banaue due mainly to the setting explained above and the less development, which I didn't regret. I had to exchange cell reception and good wifi though. I also found that the people of Batad were very welcoming and warm. Greeting a visitor like me was common while I walked around the terraces. From the photos, you can see that you can enjoy magnificent views of the rice terraces from different angles depending on where you are. It's breathtaking! The walkway is quite small and, when linking between levels, can be quite steep. I recommend you have a certain level of physical fitness in order to enjoy the best of Batad.

Depending on the time of your visit, the terraces may be in full bloom, a mix of yellows and greens, or might be overgrown as they only have 1 planting season. The roads are slippery and can be dangerous. The stairs are very steep and narrow. It’s a 2000 year old rice terraces, remote, people are very simple and there are still habits that city people might frown upon like the spitting of nganga, keeping of poultry and livestock in their homes. For me, I feel grateful and blessed I had opportunity to see this place.
