Baan Mai Market, Hundred Years
Muang Pae Riw
📍 Located on Suphakit Road, Na Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chachoengsao Province
📃 Baan Mai Market, Hundred Years This is an ancient market on the banks of the Bang Pakong River that has been around since the reign of King Rama V. It can be said that it is an old market that is over a hundred years old.
.. In the past, this was a riverside community that used to have a lot of bustling trade. But when the roads in Muang Pae Riw were built, water trade decreased.
.. The locals have tried to help improve, maintain, and preserve this market to bring it back to life. It is like a living museum on the banks of the Bang Pakong River that still maintains its original, classic style.
🕘 The market is open every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but it is lively on Saturdays and Sundays.

Explore, Taste, and Shop at Ban Mai Market, Chachoengsao
When visiting Chachoengsao, besides paying respects at temples, making merit, and enjoying delicious food, there are also several old markets to stroll and shop at. The closest one to the city center is the 'Ban Mai Market,' a century-old market.
Ban Mai Market is over 100 years old and was once a bustling community of Thai-Chinese merchants. This place was a significant trading hub in Chachoengsao, as evidenced by the closely built houses along the river. Despite the passage of time, the market's importance remains, showcasing its unique charm from the reign of King Rama V. The market still retains its original condition, reminiscent of the days when our grandparents lived there. Visitors today can learn about its history and see it depicted in period films and dramas shot at Ban Mai Market.
Besides being a popular filming location, Ban Mai Market is also a haven for delicious food, snacks, and various treats. It offers a variety of exquisite dishes from Paet Riu, including Chinese and Thai cuisine, each maintaining its authentic flavors. The market also features a traditional coffee shop known for its rich and aromatic coffee. It is a must-visit spot for souvenirs before heading home. In 2004, the Ban Mai community collectively revitalized the century-old market, opening it as a tourist attraction in Chachoengsao. Visitors can now experience the nostalgic lifestyle, taste delicious food, and shop for souvenirs from Paet Riu.

100-year-old Ban Mai Market 🤎
Let's go find something to eat at a retro market!
It's not far from Bangkok. 🚗💨 Let's go to Chachoengsao.
Ban Mai Market has been around for 100 years. Since the time when grandmas and grandpas were young, it has been a Thai-Chinese community and a trading area until today. The atmosphere inside the market still preserves the old and classic wooden houses very well!!!
If anyone passes through Paet Riew, I'd like you to stop by and visit. Here, there are food, souvenirs, snacks, sticky rice, khao lam, kafong, traditional coffee. The prices are not too high. The vendors are cute!!! Come on in! Come on in!!!

Ancient temple more than 200 years old
#Trip near Bangkok
Wat Chaiyaphruetharam or Wat Sampatwan Nai is located in Ban Mai Subdistrict, Mueang Chachoengsao District, Chachoengsao Province. It is a temple that is over 200 years old. The temple was built in 1772 on the banks of the Bang Pakong River.
The temple is related to the legend of Luang Pho Sothon, which has been passed down through the generations. It is said that three siblings (Luang Pho Sothon is enshrined at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan in Chachoengsao Province, Luang Pho Wat Ban Laem is enshrined at Wat Ban Laem in Samut Songkhram Province, and Luang Pho To is enshrined at Wat Bang Phli Yai in Samut Prakan Province) floated down the river from the south until they finally surfaced in the middle of the Bang Pakong River in Suan Phrik Village, in front of Suan Phrik Temple (outside). They performed the miracle of floating and going against the current. When the villagers of Suan Phrik saw them, they took a rope of sapphire and tied it to the three Buddha statues. Then about 500 villagers tried to drag it to shore but were unsuccessful. The ropes that tied the Buddha images broke and the three Buddha images sank into the water.
The villagers believed that the reason the three Buddha images came upstream in this area was “Sam Phra Tuan”, which later changed to “Sampathuan”. Therefore, the name of the village and the temple eventually became “Sampathuan”.
In addition, it is also the temple where Phraya Tak led his army to conquer Chanthaburi. He passed through this temple and renovated it before marching on to Chanthaburi. It is considered a very important temple in Chachoengsao.
