Legend of the Ubosot in the Middle of the Gulf of Thailand
Wat Khun Samut Chin, or another name is Wat Khun Samut Rawat, located in Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. In the past, it was a temple by the Gulf of Thailand. But later, the land was eroded by the sea until it became an island surrounded by water. It became a legend of the Ubosot in the middle of the sea that anyone who wanted to visit had to take a boat out to the middle of the sea.
And because it is the only temple left, due to the problem of seawater eroding the coast, the temple had to raise the floor of the church and the monks' huts higher to be above the sea. In the past, the old Ubosot in the temple was partially submerged during high tide. And if you want to visit, you can only do it when the water recedes. There are still traces of seawater in various places to see.
As for inside Wat Khun Samut Chin, you must come to see the old Ubosot. In addition to seeing the grooves around the water, the exterior of the Ubosot also has beautiful stucco patterns. Inside, there is a statue of Luang Pho Pak Daeng. And inside the temple, there are both the Chinese pavilion of Guan Yin, the large Buddha statue in the posture of calming the ocean, King Taksin the Great, Phraya Phichai, and a new teakwood chapel that is very beautiful.
Currently, a road has been built to make it more convenient to travel to Wat Khun Samut Chin without having to use a boat.
