If you have limited time, it is recommended to visit only Kanas and Hemu. 1️⃣ day1: Burqin Kanas Airport - Kanas Scenic Area First, take a flight to Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, then buy a flight from Urumqi to Kanas Airport. Generally, after getting off the plane, you can carpool at the exit to the scenic area gate, which takes about an hour. 2️⃣ day2: Kanas Kanas is known as the "back garden of the gods." The entire scenic area is formed along the shores of Kanas Lake. Be sure to get up early to see the morning mist. Ask the guesthouse in advance about the place and time for the morning bus. The early morning in Kanas is very quiet. The most beautiful spots are the three bends, known as "Wolong Bay, Moon Bay, and Fairy Bay." 3️⃣ day3: Hemu Hemu Village is not very large, with a main road of about two to three kilometers. From the viewing platform on the opposite side of the Hemu River, it takes about half an hour to walk to the viewing platform, where you can overlook the entire village. It is very suitable for photography. It is recommended to walk to the viewing platform before sunrise, as a large group of tourists will walk together before dawn. - ✅ Travel tips 1. The temperature difference between day and night in the Kanas area is large, the ultraviolet rays are strong, and the climate is dry. Be sure to prepare enough sunscreen. Private cars are allowed to drive into the Kanas Scenic Area, with a daily limit of 50 cars. 4. To go to Baihaba, you need to go to the police station at the transfer center to handle border defense. Self-driving Tour of Southern and Northern Xinjiang (28) Baihaba - The Northwesternmost Village Altay Region June 20, 2023 Weather: Cloudy, 16-30 degrees Celsius. Although our four-wheeled vehicle couldn't keep up with planes or trains, day after day, we unknowingly reached the northernmost tip of Xinjiang. Today, we begin our journey south. Our second visit to Kanas. At 8 a.m., during the first wave of visitors entering the park, we navigated the winding paths and traversed the "Panlong Ancient Road" once more. Fortunately, as an established 5A scenic spot with ample experience in managing crowds, there were sufficient staff and support vehicles, efficient command and dispatch, and orderly tourists. We entered the park smoothly without any congestion. We arrived at the transfer center to purchase tickets and transfer to Baihaba. Online reviews suggested that Baihaba is similar to Hemu, and visiting one is enough. However, we weren't convinced and decided to see the "Northwesternmost Village" for ourselves. Baihaba Village is located within the Tie Re Ke Ti Township, Habahe County, Altay Region, on the border between China and Kazakhstan. Situated in the northwesternmost corner of China, resembling the tip of a rooster's tail on the map, it is known as the "Northwesternmost Village of China" (Figures 1-2). Baihaba is a village where pristine natural ecology blends with ancient traditional culture. It has preserved its original features for centuries, primarily inhabited by Tuvan people of Mongolian ethnicity. The villagers' wooden houses and livestock pens are scattered picturesquely among pine and birch forests, creating a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere (Figures 3-4). In Baihaba, there is a border post known as the "Northwesternmost Sentry Post" (Figure 5). There's also the "Northwesternmost Police Station" (Figure 6) and the "Northwesternmost Post Office" (Figure 7). We spent an hour exploring the village, noting the basic accommodation and dining options. We didn't encounter any remarkable scenery or cultural attractions. The round trip on the shuttle bus takes two hours, consistent with online reviews, which our friends may find helpful. The shuttle bus passed through several large alpine pastures along the way, adorned with lush green grass and flocks of cattle and sheep, offering picturesque views (Figures 8-9). In the afternoon, we headed to Hemu and checked into our accommodation.
