This gorgeous heritage shophouses (a combination of 3 terrace double storey lots) turn into private musuem was onces inhabited by a Peranakan family(Chan Cheng Siew) since 1896. Where artifacts & exhibits the lifestyle, cultural & history of a Strait-born Chinese. The house structure is long and deep, and has open-air patio within. Absolutely an amazing walk back in time through a heritage house which filled with old period architectural, craft works, embroideries, exquisite woodworks & furnitures, old photos and etc. The self guided tour is well explained by the guide book and admission fee is RM 18, Opening hours: 10am - 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

I spent around 1–2 hours exploring the museum, which was the perfect amount of time to immerse myself in the history and culture of the Peranakan people. The entrance fee was RM 15 for adults and RM 10 for students, making it a very affordable way to discover a unique part of Malaysian history. The museum’s ambience was serene and immersive, with its vintage décor and peaceful atmosphere, making it feel like stepping into another era. The knowledgeable staff were friendly and eager to share insights, making the experience all the more enriching. The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a brief break between 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. To get there, I took a short walk from Jonker Street—it’s centrally located and easy to find. It’s definitely worth making time for if you’re in Melaka, as it’s one of the best places to learn about the Baba Nyonya culture in an authentic setting.

Baba Nyonya heritage museum on Heeren street gives a glimpse into the culture and history of the Peranakan community or the Baba Nyonya community in Melaka. It's a pretty museum to explore although I'd have loved a guided tour. We were given a guide book which was quite helpful too. This Baba Nyonya Museum is worth a visit! When you step inside, you will feel how the people lived in the olden days. Very well maintained and preserved exhibits and artifacts which are passed down from generations to generations. There are some times for guided tours, but most of the time you'll be in there without a guide as you explore the many rooms and learn how the baba nyonyas came to be. Overall experience was pleasant and it was interesting to see the details of the wooden furnishings and interior decorations.
