This forested hilltop park used to belong to Eiichi Shibusawa, who was the president of Japan's first modern bank. Back in 1879, former US President Ulysses Grant got to see a ju-jitsu demonstration here while he was a guest of Shibusawa. Although the grand mansion is no longer standing, a few smaller buildings are still around. The park's main attractions are the 'Asukayama Three Museums', which are lined up on the eastern side of the park. The Paper Museum showcases paper art, papermaking technology, and the history of paper, and sometimes offers workshops. The Kita City Asukayama Museum focuses on local archaeological discoveries, like a dugout canoe from Japan's Stone Age.
