Location: On Miaoli County Highway 49 in Sanyi Township, Miaoli County Introduction: Longteng, formerly known as 'Fish Vine Flat', is named after a legend where the early settlers were troubled by a carp spirit in the Carp Pond. To subdue the mischievous carp spirit, the settlers planted fish vine throughout the Longteng mountain area. At the same time, they named the high mountain to the east 'Guandao Mountain', with the intention of using Guandao Mountain to cut the fish vine and poison the carp spirit. Eventually, the fish monster ceased to harm the people, and the residents lived and worked in peace and contentment. After World War II, when villages were established in Taiwan, the villagers thought the name 'Fish Vine' was inelegant and renamed it Longteng. On the morning of April 21, 1935, a major earthquake struck central Taiwan, with the epicenter near Guandao Mountain. The Sanyi area was severely affected, and the majestic Longxi Bridge on the mountain railway line was completely destroyed.
