The Armenian Genocide Memorial on the Tsitsernakaberd "Swallow Castle" hill, southwest of Yerevan, was built in 1965, the 50th anniversary of the Armenian genocide. Although the memorial is small, it displays a wide range of content, including the situation of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire before the genocide, the genocide itself, and the reflections and historical influences of the countries at that time. Outside the memorial there is a genocide memorial, an ever-burning fire, a memorial wall and a memorial tree garden planted by heads of state.
