Today I recommend a famous attraction: the Armenian Genocide Memorial. In the 19th century, the Armenians under Ottoman rule hoped to use external forces to emulate the Greeks and gain independence from the declining Ottoman Empire. During the century-long war between the Ottomans and the Russians, the Ottomans continuously ceded territory and paid indemnities. They attributed the cause of their defeat to the pro-Russian Armenians, and used this as an excuse to drive out and massacre the Armenians in their territory. It is estimated that between 1 and 1.5 million Armenians were massacred by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923. It accounted for 50% of the Armenian population at that time. It can be described as a genocidal massacre. The independent Turkish government has never acknowledged this incident. In order to commemorate the compatriots who died, the Armenian government built this group of monuments and memorials on a hill near the capital Yerevan. April 24th of each year is designated as the Armenian Genocide Memorial Day. The 12 inverted stone tablets surrounding the center of the circle symbolize the territories of the 12 provinces lost in Armenian history. The eternal flame in the center of the circle commemorates the 1.5 million innocent souls who were massacred. Very suitable for taking photos, sightseeing and vacation! Armenian Genocide Museum, Yerevan, Armenia. Founded in 1995. Includes memorial platform and museum. There is a 44-meter-high "Rebirth of Armenia" monument on the platform. Commemorates the 1.5 million Armenians killed by the Ottoman Empire in World War I. The 44-meter-high "Rebirth of Armenia" monument pierces the sky like a sharp sword. The Eternal Memorial Altar consists of 12 sloping memorial walls surrounding the torch, which means remembering and mourning. In the middle of the memorial altar is an eternal fire burning🔥 to keep vigil for the 1.5 million people who died that year. On the northwest side is a stone wall one hundred meters long, on which are engraved the names of the towns where Armenia was expelled. No matter where you are from, when you come to Yerevan, you can come and see the monument to the rebirth of Armenia.
