ARKO Art Center was opened in 1974 to support and develop artistic creativity in Korea in the former Deoksu Hospital in Gwanghung-dong, Jongno-gu, and moved to its current building in 1979, designed by renowned Korean architect Kim Soo-geun (1931-1986), located in Marronnier Park. This building is considered one of the main landmarks of Daehangno Theatre Street. With the entry of more and more public and private museums and galleries into the art scene in the 1990s, the center began curating its own exhibitions. The center serves as a creative platform for research and exhibitions where artists and other creative people can exchange experiences. Modern art. A much debated subject in the art world. But love it or hate it, Seoul’s ARKO Art Center is a perfect opportunity to experience it. With ever changing exhibitions from around the world, there’s something from every corner of the modern art world: video, sculpture, and experiential pieces. And as entry to the art centre is completely free of charge, it’s a great low commitment activity if you’re not sure it’ll be your cup of tea. We got through the whole exhibition in about 25 minutes. But you can definitely stroll through faster if you just want a quick look, or alternatively, you can stay longer to read more deeply into each piece and watch the collection of videos all the way to the end. Overall I think it’s a great peek into the modern art world, without any big time or money commitment. And definitely worth a look round if you’re already in the area! #artmuseum #100WaysOfTravel

I recommend it as a course to stop by lightly when going on a trip to Hyehwa Station or Daehakro. Personally, I felt that the exhibition scale was smaller than I thought compared to the size of the building. I think 20 minutes would be enough for the viewing time.
