Kobe Arima Onsen: A Traditional Hot Spring Town
Kobe Arima Onsen is a traditional hot spring town and one of Kobe's popular tourist attractions. It is also one of Japan's three ancient hot springs. Among the hot spring establishments, Gin no Yu and Kin no Yu are the most famous, offering public baths for day visitors. If you just want a simple bathing experience, there is a free foot bath next to the Kin no Yu shop. Visitors are advised to bring their own towels, otherwise, the shop will charge an extra fee for towels. Visitors can also choose to visit other hot spring inns for a day trip. I chose Kin no Yu for a simple hot spring experience. The shop's environment is comfortable, and the charges are very reasonable.
In addition, Arima Onsen Town offers beautiful scenery and the Yuzen Shrine for visitors to explore. The nearby shopping street, known as Yumotozaka, is a narrow stone-paved road extending from the main street of Arima Onsen. It is a great place for a stroll, allowing visitors to walk among houses from Japan's Edo period. There are many unique restaurants and shops, making it a great place to buy souvenirs, including skincare products made with Arima Onsen water. This spot is highly recommended for families or couples.

Arima Onsen is a great little place to visit. Starting with the train ride into Arima Onsen, you get a sense that this place will be different than the hustle and bustle of the large Japanese cities. The place looked like a bit of a ghost town but is was really nice to walk around the different street and enjoy the sounds of crickets while exploring. It was really easy to get to and next time I am in the area I will visit during the night hours. The public onsens are open late and must visit and experience. It’s a cute comfortable little onsen town with little foreign tourist. There is two public onsen with a free public foot onsen that my kids love. There is a few restaurant around but closes early at 6pm. So far only one restaurant closes at 9pm that i have found out.

Japanese Hot Spring Culture and Bathing Etiquette
Visiting Japan, soaking in hot springs is indispensable, "Not soaking in hot springs is like never having been to Japan".
Here are a few distinctive hot springs to recommend:
1. Tokyo Toshimaen 'Niwa no Yu'. The spring water gushes from 1,455 meters underground, with an indoor classic German spa and an outdoor 1,200 tsubo Japanese garden, where flowers and plants change with the seasons, offering a delightful flower-viewing and hot spring experience.
2. Tokyo TOKYO DOME Korakuen's SPALAQUE. A Balinese-style hot spring full of Southeast Asian romantic atmosphere, it is a full-featured hot spring SPA leisure center created using natural hot springs drawn from 1,700 meters underground in Tokyo, including soaking, dining, and resting facilities.
3. Tokyo Odaiba 'Oedo Onsen Monogatari'. A theme hot spring park that recreates the scene of a huge bathhouse from the Edo period, with an Edo-era street inside the venue, featuring shops, izakayas, beauty skin houses, etc., reflecting the life scene of Tokyo more than 130 years ago. You can rent a kimono with ukiyo-e prints according to your preference and stroll down this street, which is quite picturesque. The hot spring area has many outdoor baths surrounded by rocks and a garden walking foot bath area, with more than 20 types of rich pure Japanese hot springs.
4. Hakone Kowakien. Japan's most popular large-scale comprehensive hot spring, famous for its red wine hot spring pool and green tea hot spring pool, it is a Japanese-style hot spring paradise that combines with the comfortable and leisurely natural culture of Hakone, and is also a hot spring resort in Japan.
5. The hot spring at the top hot spring inn 'Hakone HATSUHANA'.
6. Kobe 'Arima Onsen'. Kobe's oldest hot spring town with a long history, known as 'Kobe's hinterland', is one of Japan's three famous springs. Walking in the hot spring town, with street vendors, traditional houses, delicious snacks, etc., makes one feel relaxed and comfortable. Arima Onsen's spring water contains about twice the concentration of iron salt springs as seawater, and the rust-red 'Gold Spring' and the colorless transparent carbonated 'Silver Spring' are particularly famous.
7. Osaka 'SPA WORLD Onsen World'. One of the world's largest hot spring leisure bathhouses, open 24 hours, offering 16 types of hot springs from 11 countries.
Understanding the local hot spring culture when visiting hot springs in Japan helps to better experience it:
Frequent crustal movements have created a patchwork of hot springs in Japan, from small islands at sea to hidden spots in the mountains, everywhere there are beautifying and fitness-enhancing soaking or various scenic hot springs.
Japan's 'Hot Spring Law' gives a clear explanation of hot springs: spring water that gushes from underground at a temperature of 25°C or above, or spring water that contains a certain amount of specified mineral components in 1 kilogram of water (even if the temperature is not up to 25°C) is considered a hot spring. Hot springs are further divided into low-temperature springs below 34°C, medium-temperature springs between 34°C and 42°C, and high-temperature springs above 42°C. In addition, hot springs are divided into 11 types based on acidity and alkalinity, osmotic pressure, etc.
During the Nara period in Japan, hot springs were mainly used for leisure, treatment, and various religious activities by nobles and monks, and were not open to the general public; in the modern Edo period, due to the underdevelopment of medicine, the medical effects of hot springs were highly valued, which led to a great extent of development, and the general public also began to enjoy hot springs.
Japanese hot springs are mainly naked soaking, relaxing the body, freeing the mind, and achieving a state of returning to the original and true through candid interaction. Hot springs have 'three nourishments': 'recuperation' to recover from fatigue, 'maintenance' to maintain health and prevent diseases, and 'therapy' to treat diseases.
There are some etiquettes to pay attention to when soaking in hot springs.
1. 'Clean body before entering the pool': Before entering the hot spring pool, even if you have already washed very clean elsewhere, you must first wash your body clean in public at the bathing area outside the pool, to prove that you are entering the pool with a clean body, otherwise, as soon as you enter the pool, people in the pool will jump out;
2. 'Keep a low voice': Natural hot springs are located in quiet valleys and steep mountains. In the quiet atmosphere, with the mountains, water, grass, trees, the babbling of streams, the melodious bird songs, and the cleansing of body and mind, loud laughter will destroy the originally tranquil atmosphere and affect the mood of others;
3. 'Soak, not wash': Japanese hot springs are for 'soaking' not 'washing';
4. 'Dress correctly': Hot spring inns provide yukatas, and when wearing them, be sure to have the left lapel on top, because in Japan, only the dead have the right lapel on top.
Hot spring baths are private places, and photography is prohibited, only specially permitted professional photography teams have the opportunity to be allowed. I encountered such a three-person photography team in the outdoor pool of Oedo Onsen Monogatari, with one person for lighting, one for assistance, and one for the main shot.
Therefore, the 'interior photos' in this note were taken at 'Hakone HATSUHANA' when I got up early to soak in the springs, with no one around, so I 'sneakily' took some openly.

Arima Onsen is an ancient hot spring in the Kansai region, located in Arima-cho, Kita-ku, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture. As one of Japan's three famous hot springs, Arima Onsen has a history of 1300 years and is said to have been built by Buddhist monks in the 8th century. Surrounded by mountains on three sides, you can enjoy cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves in fall, along with the famous hot springs, making it quite popular with tourists.
2. Kobe Port
Kobe Port was opened on January 1, 1868, and has been an area where foreigners resided since the Meiji era, filled with exotic atmosphere. The popular sightseeing areas here mainly include parks, Mosaic Garden, and Kobe Harborland, where Kobe Port Tower, Kobe Maritime Museum, and Mosaic Ferris Wheel are the iconic architectural landscapes of Kobe Port. You can spend half a day here enjoying the sea breeze, taking a leisurely stroll, and spending a relaxing afternoon.
3. Kitano Ijinkan District
Kitano still retains the Ijinkan (Western-style buildings where foreigners lived) from the Meiji era. With the opening of Kobe Port in 1968, the number of Ijinkan gradually increased, giving Kitano Ijinkan Street an exotic atmosphere. There are currently about twenty or thirty Ijinkan open to the public, with the white Western-style buildings standing at street corners, offering many pleasing sights.

🈶️Japan accommodation suggestions🈶️
In general, it is recommended to choose high-end hotels in scenic areas. These hotels usually have excellent locations and quality, provide two meals a night, high-quality catering, and some even provide transportation services (need to be booked in advance). In fact, considering comprehensively, the price is not much higher than staying in a homestay, but the experience is more enjoyable. For large cities such as Tokyo and Sapporo, due to their important status as transportation hubs, the first choice is hotels with convenient transportation.

Take the tram and bus! A beautiful trip to Kobe, Japan alone
This is one of the series of magnificent sceneries I saw in Japan, by taking the train and bus. The destination of this month is... Kobe, which is full of tourist attractions! All photos are only taken by public transportation! You can tour without driving 🚃
From next month, I will focus on Luminarie held in January, as well as the famous Onsen (hot spring), and Mountain known for its art, and popular Starbucks branches, etc., this is the route I actually spent 2 days and 1 night walking.
My favorite memory is overlooking the Luminarie from the business hotel where I happened to stay, it was really great...✨

KIRARI stayed, and one of Japan's three hot springs, Ima Hot Springs
, heard the name of Taige's soup before I went to Kobe. Taige's soup is very large, not comparable to ordinary hot spring hotels; similar to the domestic bliss soup, it has 26 kinds of baths and rock baths, and there are also some of the most special gold and silver soups in Ma Hot Springs. There is also a comprehensive dining and entertainment facility that can be used for bathing alone or for a stay. The guest bath is free and there is a dedicated elevator to the spa area. In short, it is very suitable for a family to come on vacation.
The attitude of the front desk is particularly special, and we have explained the many precautions for staying at the hotel. After picking up the bathrobe next to the elevator, you can enter the room!
The room is a standard Japanese-style room, and the feeling of the wind is coming, it is a big surprise at the beginning of the trip! I don't mention much good things about taking pictures. There is a separate balcony area, as well as a wet and dry separation area. Full-featured and modern, the quality of the facilities in the room is nothing to say. Every night, the staff will come over and help make the bed. The first time I found out that the Japanese tatami is so popular! The
hotel's breakfast buffet is also very rich, the ingredients are very fresh; the restaurant area has tatami seats, there are normal seats, very user-friendly.
The big show is naturally a hot spring! This is the oldest hot spring in the Kansai region of Japan, and the Gero hot springs and Kusatsu Onsen are also known as the three famous springs in Japan. Ama Onsen is said to be quite popular with Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He has not only come here several times, but also rebuilt the hot springs and is committed to holding a tea party, which has made the horse prosper. Living in KIRARI, it is natural to experience the hot springs here. In-house guests can go to the soup of Taige and enjoy the exclusive hot springs. The style of the hot spring area is also Japanese traditional courtyard style, a bit like the world in the movie "Spirited Away".
Many people ask for the presence of Jinquan and Yinquan in the hall before booking a stay at Ama Hot Spring. This is the two kinds of hot springs that are most worthy of experience in the horse: Jinquan contains a lot of iron ingredients, the color is brownish brown, it is quite effective in treating neuralgia; Yinquan is colorless and transparent, contains carbonated springs and radioactive springs, for chronic digestive diseases, Chronic constipation and gout have a certain effect. Both hot springs experience it and it feels like the whole person has been cured. The lotion prepared in the guest spa area, the lotion is POLA.
In addition to the Jinquan and Yinquan features of the Ma Hot Springs, hot springs such as carbonated hot springs and vanilla hot springs can also be enjoyed here. In addition, steam baths and saunas, rock bath equipment are also available here! You can feel so many kinds of hot springs at a time, and you have a great value for money.
Shirley Zhu.
Ama Onsen, which began more than 1,500 years ago, is one of the oldest hot springs in the Kansai region. Together with Gero Onsen and Kusatsu Onsen, it is also known as Japan's three famous springs.
The water quality of Arima Hot Spring is rich in minerals. The spring water contains iron salt springs which are about twice the concentration of sea water. It is divided into "Golden Spring" with rust red color and "Silver Spring" with colorless transparent carbon acid spring. There are a lot of hot spring hotels in
, and most offer a set menu of two drinks. After we finished the gold and silver soup at the hotel, we began to taste the Santian and Niu + Kobe beef banquet dishes! In Japanese, Kaiseki cuisine and banquet dishes are the same word. The difference is that Kaiseki cuisine is more Zen, simpler and simpler. It often matches the tea ceremony and requires the eater to slowly understand the chef or the owner's mind. Tableware is often very popular. The banquet dishes are more secular, the ingredients are richer, the colors are colorful, and the expensive materials are used as the main dishes.
From the starter to the dessert, they are very beautiful, a total of 13 dishes, don't look at a small one, but all have been kept after eating!
Sea-Cen.
There is a small town in Ma, which is famous for its horse hot springs. The town is not big, walking for 2 hours is enough, so compared with fewer people and fewer tourists.
Time is limited, I only chose bubble soup this time.
When you come to the Jinzhitang Hot Spring Club, you need to change your shoes first. After buying the hot spring ticket at the front desk, you will go upstairs barefoot. The hot springs in Japan are separate from men and women. They walk into the locker room. There are no water spots on the spotless floor. The soup hanging on the wall indicates that the shower is required before bathing, and the body hair is not washed. Any towel should not be taken into the bath. After showering You need to dry the water on the mat at the door and let it out, so as not to bring the water to the locker room.
Into the hot spring area, which is divided into three pools, 42 degrees and 44 degrees of gold soup and nothing white water. The concentration of hot spring water is very high, and it is completely invisible under water. A small amount of minerals will stick out of the water and be taken out of the body, just like rust, but it can be erased with a flick. .
