Visiting the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum was an unforgettable experience. Located about 20 minutes from Naples by train, the entrance fee was €13—absolutely worth it! Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum is much smaller but even better preserved. The ancient homes, thermal baths, and even wood elements have survived, giving a unique insight into Roman life before Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Walking through the streets feels intimate, like you’re getting a private glimpse into the past.
I was particularly struck by the vivid frescoes and mosaics, which are still so detailed. The House of the Deer, with its beautiful courtyard and sea views, was a standout. You can spend 2-3 hours here easily, and it’s less crowded than Pompeii, which made for a more relaxed visit. If you have time, you can pair it with a visit to Mount Vesuvius or Pompeii, which is just a short ride away.
Herculaneum gives a fascinating glimpse of history, and it’s one of those places that stays with you long after you’ve left.
