Getting There - turn right after you come out from Saga-arashiyama station
I would say this is the most enjoyable part of my Arashiyama experience. I initially thought tickets were sold out as the prebooked tickets were all gone. Read that some tickets might still be sold on the spot hence we reached at 8am. The ticket booth opens at 8.25am and there were probably 30-40 people infront of us. We managed to get tickets for the first train still, yay!
The train ride isnt the cheapest or most comfortable. But the views more than make up for it. It was truly beautiful. We came in spring so there was cherry blossom. Would think that autumn will be even more beautiful.
Another must do at Kyoto!

The Japanese have a strong railway complex, because in a fast-paced contemporary life, stable and fast transportation is the first choice for daily travel.
But on the road, it tends to choose old-fashioned railway trains with retro colors, and the Kyoto Laoshan train is a leader.
, formerly known as the wilderness tour train, starts at the station and travels along the Baojinchuan Valley. The end point is Kumagao Station, which takes about 25 minutes.
Riding in different seasons, you can see different scenery. Here, you can see cherry blossoms in spring, new greens in summer, maple leaves in autumn, and silver-white world covered in snow in winter.
When I came, it was just summer vacation, and the eyes were full of fresh green water. From time to time, Baojin Chuanxi Valley was rowing a kayak, enjoying the coolness of summer, and the civet cat sculpture symbolizing Wangcai next to the station. The thick Japanese style is very interesting and enjoyable.

Must-visit places in Arashiyama Sagano Romantic Train
Highly recommend the Sagano Scenic Railway. It’s 25 minutes one way and not only beautiful but a lot of fun. We chose to do a one way trip from Saga Torokko Station to Kameoka. We had a hot chocolate in the little cafe while waiting for our time slot. We saw a stag foraging along side the river and stunning scenery. Some people were returning to Arashiyamain on boats on the Hozugawa river. We chose to walk the 500 meters into town from the Torokko Station (you can purchase a round trip ticket) and had the most delicious meal in a restaurant called Gyuraku before catching a JR train back to Kyoto from Umahori station. It was a beautiful day in semi rural Kyoto. If you like you can hire Kimono from a local shop in Kyoto or Arashiyama and wear it on the train. We saw several people doing this and thought it a wonderful idea.

Kyoto & Night
Traveling in Kyoto is like taking a bus or tram in Tokyo. Everything is orderly and punctual. The rhythm is neither slow nor fast, revealing a polite and respectful society. Whether it's the fish and cranes by the Kamo River, the torii gates at Fushimi Inari, the weekend market at Umekoji, or the vintage shops on Sanjo Street, you'll often feel comfortable. It's not easy to feel comfortable. A society that makes people feel comfortable must include a high level of environment, education, culture, civilization, and economy.
In Kyoto, you don't have to follow the travel agency's footsteps. Google Maps is enough to plan your daily itinerary. From the place names that attract you, to understanding the picture strategy, and then navigating to start, you don't have to worry about transportation and food. At every sightseeing spot, you will always meet people who are harmonious and happy with you. This is amazing, and the beauty of travel is born.
If you're too lazy to search Google, just settle down, remember the address of the inn, and start city roaming. The steps of Kyoto University of the Arts, the grass of Baochi Park in Sakyo, the full art of Kitayama Church, the cable car window outside Mount Hiei, the Matre Rock Bar near Kawaramachi, the Okinawa Kanto stew on Shijo Street, haha, the pig's feet are really unique. If you are a person with a large range of activities, you can go to Lake Biwa to see the ripples of Dali, go to Miyazu to experience the romance of the sea train, go to Amanohashidate to see the most beautiful coastline in Asia, and the night is getting late. When you return to the city, the shops start to light up one by one. The houses full of design sense are tempting you to come under the warm night light.
Yamashina Ward is the one I know best. Second-hand stores, wine shops, food and wine bars, and more will come with me.

Hozu River Rafting • Togetsukyo Bridge • Bamboo Grove Path • Sagano Scenic Railway
I had always wanted to raft down the Hozu River to Arashiyama, but due to the impact of Typhoon Shanshan, I couldn't make it. On this day, the official announcement of suspension hadn't been made by 06:30 AM, so I set off immediately and took the JR to Kameoka.
1. Hozu River Rafting: The journey from Kameoka City to Arashiyama is about 16 kilometers long and takes about 1.5 hours. The riverbanks are lush and green, and one can imagine the vibrant colors of spring and autumn. The boat passes under several bridges spanning the gorges. As we passed through Hozu Gorge, the boatman pointed out the impact of the typhoon and the water level, making it easy to imagine the torrential floods.
2. Togetsukyo Bridge: The boat reaches its destination at Arashiyama, right in front of Togetsukyo Bridge. Upon close inspection, the bridge piers are made of reinforced concrete, while the handrails are wooden, blending naturally with the pristine environment of Arashiyama.
3. Bamboo Grove Path: A 400-meter-long path flanked by tall, green bamboo, creating a canopy overhead. Walking under the bamboo is not only refreshing but also gives a sense of purity and tranquility.
4. Sagano Scenic Railway: The train ride from Arashiyama Station to Kameoka Station takes about 25 minutes, offering views of the deep and mysterious Hozu Gorge. From Kameoka Station to Umahori Station, although only a 10-minute ride, it passes through golden rice fields with dark green mountains in the background. The view was so captivating that we sat facing the golden fields for a full hour before leaving.

Arashiyama Park in the vicinity of Kyoto
Arashiyama not only has a wealth of cultural attractions, but also the natural scenery that changes with the seasons and the retro small train. Although the maple leaves have basically fallen when I went this time, and the small train did not make a reservation, but the boat tour is also very beautiful
Arashiyama area has many old restaurants and cute grocery stores, you can also rent kimonos and rickshaws, if you want to slow down and enjoy life, this is definitely the best choice Arashiyama Park

During the trip, more people tend to choose old-fashioned railway trains with retro colors. From the unique sightseeing trains in Japan, we can see how much the Japanese love the railway. In Kyoto, where Japanese classical aesthetics condense, nature can't miss the sightseeing train. When it comes to sightseeing trains in Kyoto, there are a lot of people who are in the mountains. In the cherry blossom season, of course, it is also a place where people are crowded with people. When the cherry blossoms are full, the red trains are the best. There are five cars in the car, the seats are made of wood, and the No. 5 car (Fugui) is an open car. The whole car has no glass windows for easy taking pictures.
