Jane Exhibition: Korean Local Exhibition🥳2022 World Heritage Festival: Gyeongsangbuk-do Andong Yeongju🎉Theme Pavilion - "Walking Heritage" Exhibition
The "Walking Heritage" exhibition currently being held in Andong City, South Korea is definitely worth watching. If you are familiar with Andong, South Korea, you might as well go to the exhibition hall for a while!
I will introduce the content to you!
🥰"Walking Heritage" is based on the UNESCO World Heritage inclusion standard of "Outstanding Universal Value", and through the eyes of seven (groups) of artists, it incorporates the artistic value of Gyeongsangbuk-do cultural heritage and is rich in thinking. Colorful.
Participating artists:
Neo Seoul (Sihoon Kim, Yongkwan Kim, Younsik Woo, JaeHoon Choi, MiLim Cheon), Scenery of today (In-ah Shin, Heewon Baek), Jungjin Lee, wit n cynical (Nuiyeon Kim, Yurim Kim, Mano An, Heekyoung Yoo , Yongwan Jeon), Jisu Choi, Taeyoon Choi, Project Group Tmm (Gyuwon Kim, Boseok Jung)
New Seoul, Today's Scenery, Jungjin Lee, wit n cynical, Choi Ji-soo, Choi Tae-yoon, Tmm project team, *Architectural design: Lulujae Architectural Design (CEO: Seung Hyo-sang)
The academies and temples of Andong and Yeongju were academic treasure houses and comprehensive Buddhist monasteries that contributed to the spread of Neo-Confucianism in the Joseon Dynasty respectively. Their characteristics have been preserved to this day and they are Korea's representative world heritage. Participating visual artists, poets, designers, and architects use the perspective of contemporary culture and art to rationally contact and interpret the history and inherent traditions of cultural heritage, and propose ways to explore the integration of world heritage and today's relationship.
The sculptures of unfixed heritage in the exhibits have close historical contact with the city that settled the area, preserved, restored, and maintained the heritage, allowing people to experience the current inheritance of the cultural heritage behind the prototype of the heritage. Artist Taeyoon Choi communicates with each other through media such as textiles, paintings, installations, and videos, exploring traditional and modern technologies, learning and non-learning relationships, and using the language of poetry to explore
The relationship between cultural heritage and science and technology. Another artist, Jisu Choi, expresses the characteristics of six World Heritage sites in Andong and Yeongju with dense but accurate illustrations, and transfers them to landscape painting screens that use natural silhouettes. Constructed along a maze
Walking around the screen, you will unconsciously experience the feeling of becoming a part of the landscape. Artists Jungjin Lee and Nuiyeon Kim & Yongwan Jeon (wit n cynical) surround the mountain temple and academy with nature and text respectively, carefully presenting the spirit and temporality of the heritage through the blank spaces of natural heritage, the blank spaces of poetry, and the traces of time.
Project Group Tmm captures the mood and experience of being transported into the past while walking around the academy and mountain temple, conceptualizing the world heritage as "the past time and space built by nature", and using plant images to connect the past, present, and future in resonant installations .
In addition, the artistic creations in the exhibition include issues such as cultural diversity and inclusive social development, including the UNESCO World Heritage Convention and policies, and measure and evaluate the future value of heritage. Scenery of today focuses on plaques containing cultural and historical value in academies and mountain temples. They hold workshops with those who operate and use unnamed spaces, hoping to evoke and reflect on the media value of plaques. Yurim Kim and Mano An (wit n cynical) use people with reduced mobility as the axis of action to experience world heritage through agency, making visible the relationships that traverse heritage power, class, visual and textual. Neo Seoul is a generative NFT project based on PFP (personal profile picture) that will reinterpret Andong’s hahoetal (mask), traditional culture, and world heritage. In a modern context, approximately 4,500 virtual identities were generated through the dismantling and analysis of mask characteristics.
Based on the above, the exhibition "Walking Heritage" uses contemporary designers, artists and writers to narrate the world heritage of Andong and Yeongju. The exhibition raises the possibility of developing and expanding the cultural and artistic value of Gyeongsangbuk-do World Cultural Heritage in different ways.
In addition, the exhibition strives to restore the World Heritage's "outstanding universal value" and integrate these values into the attitudes and perspectives of today's times, while preserving and transitioning them into the future.
