The Chinese traditionally feared the "miasma" of Lingnan, and the European perspective also instinctively guarded against tropical colonies. These things are reflected in the design, that is, you can see the northern design language in the tropical world, but it is difficult to find anything that draws on tropical culture in the temperate world; at the same time, these designs with a strong tropical texture also need more detailed efforts to bridge people's psychological "prejudice" and subjective instinct. So if you use this idea to re-examine some classic tropical designs, one of my personal evaluation criteria is that it cannot give you a feeling of damp heat. Like the large carpet in the center of the Andaz lobby bar, it doesn't make you feel out of place (after all, using a large area of carpet is a habit of temperate people); in public areas, although it is a "window to green" texture, the plants are actually isolated outside the window, which makes people feel that they are in the tropics but are not affected by those annoying tropical elements. ANdAZ Xiamen is a peaceful resort in the heart of the city. I visit Xiamen every year. I've stayed at the Seven Sages and Conrad, and this time I wanted to experience the Nanyang style of ANdAZ. The hotel shares a parking lot with Vientiane City. The L floor of the elevator is the ground floor (turn left out of the elevator to reach Vientiane City, which is great for shopping). You need to take the elevator to the hotel corridor and then take another elevator to the third floor lobby (the lobby staff are very friendly, but it was a weekend when I went and there were a lot of people, so check-in was slow. Some room types may require a 1-2 hour wait). We booked a scenic king room. The window overlooks the hotel entrance, outdoor pool, Vientiane City, and surrounding residences (the view is mainly of the city, so there's probably not much difference with a room without a view). The room has a large area of wooden flooring (some areas creak when you step on them) and wooden cabinets, and is covered with brightly colored carpets, giving it a strong Nanyang style. There's a free minibar. Guests can enjoy free afternoon tea on the third floor of the hotel. The pastries are small but exquisite and taste good. |Xiamen Andaz's Mediocre Stay Experience. My parents came to Xiamen to attend the graduation ceremony, and coincidentally experienced the fourth Andaz branch in China. This is the first time I've brought the kids to play in Xiamen, and I must say it's also a treasure city for family outings. This time, we stayed in the Andaz with its Southeast Asian resort vibe. The kids' room with its 'Octonauts' theme won over Bingtang Xueli's heart. Catching up with the Xiamen rain and just soaking in the hotel was so chill. Especially the various delicacies that captured all three of our hearts. The breakfast is semi-buffet style, with exquisite food choices and a wide variety. Local specialties like Satay noodles, Mianxian Hu, and fried Wu Xiang rolls are all available. The kids' favorites are the waffles and various beautiful pastries. The 101 Chinese Restaurant specializes in Minnan and Cantonese cuisine. The signature 'Black Gold Roast Goose' with its crispy skin coated in squid ink is a favorite among the kids, as is the Minnan specialty 'Fried Vinegar Pork Goose Liver'. We also tried the chef's recommended new spring dishes, like the Mustard Greens and Wuyi Mountain Bamboo Shoots, which are quite worth tasting. The Sugar Talk Restaurant is right next to the hotel in the Wanda Plaza. Sitting in the sunlit glass room for a brunch is really pleasant. You must try the signature Grilled Eel Pineapple Pizza and Eggs Benedict. If you're with a little one, you might try the Maple Pancakes. Highlights - We were wowed by the hotel breakfast - the spread was sumptuous and the food was scrumptious!
