FEED LLAMA FOR ONLY 1NZD
We just returned from an unforgettable 11-day road trip around New Zealand’s South Island, and one of our most unexpected highlights was stumbling upon the most charming llama and alpaca farm on our way to Milford Sound! 🦙💛
While driving through Te Anau, we came across Alpine Centre Cafe—a hidden gem that not only offers a cozy spot to grab a coffee but is also home to the cutest flock of llamas and alpacas. For just 1 NZD, you can feed and pet these adorable fluffballs. Trust us, it’s worth every cent!
When we pulled up, we were immediately drawn to the cafe’s relaxed vibe. Inside, we found bags of nuts for sale at the counter—perfect for feeding the llamas and alpacas just outside. With treats in hand, we headed to the pen, where we were greeted by some very eager and very fluffy friends. The llamas and alpacas were more than happy to indulge in a little snack, and we quickly fell in love with their quirky personalities.
One of the best tips we can offer is to visit in the morning. We arrived early and had the place almost entirely to ourselves. The quiet morning hours made the experience even more special, as we got to enjoy some quality time with the animals without the usual crowds. Plus, the morning light made for some amazing photos!
The Alpine Centre Cafe is located at 5 Milford Road in Te Anau, just about a two-hour drive from Milford Sound. They’re open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, so you have plenty of time to swing by during your road trip. At just 1 NZD for a bag of nuts, it’s an affordable and fun stop that’s perfect for animal lovers.
We absolutely loved this detour, and it ended up being one of the most delightful surprises of our trip. Whether you’re heading to Milford Sound or just exploring the South Island, this spot should definitely be on your itinerary. It’s a fantastic way to break up the drive, stretch your legs, and enjoy some unforgettable llama love. 🌿🚗✨
