The one and only art hotel, Shiraiya Hotel
I went to the one and only art hotel "Shiraiya Hotel / SHIROIYA HOTEL" ✨
Shiraiya Ryokan was founded in Maebashi, Gunma during the Edo period and was loved by many famous people. It had a history of about 300 years, but closed down in 2008.
And in 2020, "Shiraiya Hotel" was reborn under the design of Sou Fujimoto. I'm happy to finally be able to go to this hotel that I've been wanting to go to ever since it opened.
When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the Heritage Tower, which is eye-catching from the outside, is also a work of art (Pic.7).
When I entered the building, I felt like I had wandered into a museum, with all the art works inside.
And above all, there was an atrium that went up to the 4th floor. Leandro Erlich's Lightning Pipes were installed as if they were threading through the stairs, which was fantastic. It was also impressive that I could experience the art works just by going up and down the stairs...
At night, it was illuminated in various colors, which was also fantastic.
Each room had a different work of art on display, and I stayed in a room designed by Sou Fujimoto, which I had always wanted to stay in.

Autumn leaves at Kakumanbuchi Falls
Mount Akagi is home to a variety of natural wonders, but the most spectacular of these is Kakumanbuchi. The beautiful marshland, also known as Little Oze, has a promenade where you can take a stroll. Although it is not as grand as Onuma and Konuma, the scenery is just as complete.

Akagi Shrine (Sanyasawacho, Maebashi City)
There are three Akagi Shrines in Gunma Prefecture alone, with Mount Akagi as the object of worship, and this one is located at the foot of Mount Akagi. The date of its founding is unknown, but it is known to have been here since ancient times. It is a little dark, perhaps because it is located in a cedar forest, but this creates a solemn atmosphere.

Autumn leaves on Mount Akagi (Mt. Komagatake)
Mount Akagi is one of the three mountains of Jomo, along with Mount Haruna and Mount Myogi. Like Mount Haruna, it is a collective name for multiple mountains. It is a famous peak chosen as one of the 100 most famous mountains in Japan, and there is a variety of rich natural scenery within the mountain, including Lake Onuma. This is a photo of Mount Komagatake, which is part of that range.

Uniqlo Coffee
This cafe at the top of Uniqlo isn't large and there's a small but seemingly adequate amount of seating for the fast turnover. We tried the special Geisha blend hand-drip coffee and it was a bit fruity but otherwise not particularly special. Still, it was an ok cup of black coffee.
They also sell a few small packaged snacks to go with your coffee.
Not bad for a convenient coffee break whilst shopping at Uniqlo, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come for the coffee.

[Akagi Shrine/Gunma Prefecture] A shrine with a view of Mount Akagi and the lake
Akagi Shrine in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture
𓂃◌𓈒𓐍 𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃◌𓈒𓐍𓂃
This shrine is located on Kotorigashima Island, which juts out into Lake Onuma near the summit of Mount Akagi.
The sacred object is Mount Akagi
The enshrined deity is Princess Akagi (Akagi Daimyojin)
It is the head shrine of all Akagi shrines across the country.
Right next to the lake is a magnificent vermilion-painted shrine building,
which is very conspicuous.
Perhaps the weather on the day we went was good, as there was a fresh breeze and the water surface sparkled with light, making for a pleasant visit.

Floral climax on the slopes of Mount Akagi
Akagi is one of the hundred best places in Japan to watch cherry blossoms. This mountain is perfect for coming here in the spring season and admiring the views.
How to get there
The Akagi Cherry Blossom Festival, held in Maebashi in Gunma Prefecture, is easily accessible by public transport.
In Tokyo, take the JR Joetsu Shinkansen to Takasaki Station. There, transfer to the Ryomo Line to Maebashi Station. The trip will only take about an hour.
You can also take the JR Takasaki line from Ueno Station to Maebashi. It will take 1 hour and 45 minutes.
You can get around the city by bus. The circular route starts at the southern exit from Maebashi Station. An unlimited one-day pass costs 1,500 yen for adults and 750 yen for children. The bus stops at the Gumma Flower Park and the German-style village Akagi Kronenburg Yuhodo. The cherry blossom festival is held within a five-minute walk from the village.
Romantic moments
A strip planted with sakura stretches along the slope of Mount Akagi for 3.5 kilometers. Rows of trees form a stunning airy pink tunnel above the trail. When the wind blows, a gentle floral rain falls from them.
Traditional treats
During the flowering season, visitors can buy food and drinks at the numerous stalls. A variety of dishes are prepared here, which are served at Japanese festivals — yakitori, yakisoba, takoyaki. Please note that it is very crowded here during the event.
Cherry Blossom Calendar
The time to observe the cherry blossom depends on the weather. As a rule, sakura blooms sometime in early April, but in different years these dates may shift within two weeks.

The weather is good, the wind is calm, and there are quite a few people, making it a perfect day for cherry blossom viewing.🌸
It feels like a picnic.🥳
There are probably more than 1,000 cherry blossoms
in full bloom, and it looks like a
preview screening of the stage (venue) to show off to the onlookers.🌸🤩
Spectators have time to refresh themselves. I was enjoying the spring season to the fullest at the Senbonzakura Festival venue.☀️
Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow will be quite crowded as it is the final weekend, and there will be heavy traffic as we enter the parking lot in front of the venue. It might be a good idea to start early.🌸

[Gunma Prefecture / Sanyazawa Akagi Shrine] I'm glad I went in 2023! Shrines in Gunma Prefecture ⑤
Akagi Shrine is the head shrine of about 300 shrines nationwide.
There has been a dispute between Akagi Shrine and Oobora Akagi Shrine over which is the main shrine.
Unlike Oobora Akagi Shrine,
it has a quiet atmosphere,
and the quietness creates a sacred feeling,
so it seems like this shrine could be just as good if it were the main shrine 🙌
┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ❁ ❁ ❁┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
❥❥History
Founded during the reign of Emperor Sujin.
Initially, there were two shrines, Nishimiya, which worshipped Kokuzo Bosatsu to Ouma God and Senju Kannon to Ouma God, and Higashimiya, which worshipped Jizo Bosatsu to Jizo Mountain on the central crater cone, due to the faith in Ouma and Ouma Lakes at the crater lake of Mount Akagi.
Due to the anti-Buddhist movement in the Meiji era, it was reduced to one shrine.
In the modern shrine ranking system, it was later promoted from a local shrine to a prefectural shrine.
There was talk of further promotion, but with the end of the war, it has remained a prefectural shrine.

❥❥History
Originally, Akagi Daimyojin, a nature god, and Akanuma Okami, a swamp god, were enshrined here.
In the first year of the Daido era (806) of the 51st Emperor Heijō, the shrine was moved to O-do on the banks of Lake Onuma.
Later, Tokugawa Ieyasu was enshrined in the co-shrine.
The shrine was rebuilt in 1642 by order of Tokugawa Iemitsu.
This rebuilt shrine building fell into disrepair over the course of 300 years, and in 1912 it was moved from O-hora to the site of Itsukushima Shrine on Kotorigashima Island (its current location). And it has remained there ever since. ┈┈┈┈┈┈┈ ❁ ❁ ❁┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
