#2024Travel Review The Longji Rice Terraces in Guilin, Guangxi, also known as the Longsheng Rice Terraces, are one of the world's important agricultural cultural heritages. Longji Rice Terraces is not only a magnificent tourist area with a long history and great Chinese cultural value. The local specialty "Longji Four Treasures" tea, fragrant glutinous rice, water wine and chili are also famous and important products. Longji Rice Terraces is a very large-scale terrace group in Guilin. It is divided into three parts: Jinkeng Rice Terraces, Ping'an Zhuang Rice Terraces, and Longji Ancient Zhuangzhai Rice Terraces. When visiting the Longji Rice Terraces, most people mainly enjoy the scenery and take photos on foot.

After the driver from Yangshuo dropped us off in Guilin, we switched to another car driven by a driver who also served as our guide, and began our local day tour. After picking up the other group members, we set off for Longsheng. The journey to Longsheng involved going up and down the mountains with many winding roads. Although I was a bit sleepy from waking up early, I couldn't relax and kept my eyes on the road, fearing an accident if I let my guard down. Fortunately, the driver-guide was familiar with the mountain roads and drove skillfully. After more than two hours of careful driving, we arrived at our first stop — Huangluo Red Yao Village. Huangluo Red Yao Village is known for its long-haired women, with the longest hair reaching two to three meters. To learn about their hair care secrets, we visited the technology building where the staff provided detailed explanations, broadening our knowledge. Afterwards, my spouse and I strolled around the village, walked through the Tongxin Corridor and Fengyu Bridge, and took photos by the river, enjoying ourselves. After spending an hour in the village, we headed to the next stop: a restaurant recommended by our driver-guide where we could taste authentic local dishes. As soon as we got off the car, we saw a lady grilling bamboo chicken and bamboo rice in front of the restaurant, which was quite charming. We shared a table with some friendly group members and enjoyed a flavorful lunch. After the meal, we set off for the highlight of the trip: Jinkeng Dazhai Cableway and Jinfo Peak. After about a half-hour drive, we arrived at the Jinkeng Dazhai parking lot, the cableway station at the foot of Jinfo Peak. After getting our tickets, we eagerly boarded the cable car. We were fortunate that the weather was good that day, with no rain. Even after the winter harvest, the terraced fields remained magnificent. From the cable car, we had a panoramic view of the Jinkeng terraces covering the entire mountain. I was so captivated by the scenery that I couldn't stop taking photos, almost forgetting my fear of heights. Upon reaching Jinfo Peak, the view was even more breathtaking. However, due to my fear of heights, I didn't dare to get too close to the edge to take photos. Luckily, there was an observation deck about one story high on the mountain. From there, I could get closer to the railing and take pictures of the terraces. I had always wanted to see the terraces in person, and that day, my wish finally came true. It was truly worth the trip, and I hope to visit again in summer or autumn when the terraces are at their most beautiful. After spending some time on the mountain, we reluctantly took the cable car back down and met up with the driver-guide at the parking lot. I finally understood the saying: No words can compare to seeing it with your own eyes. 🌾 This year's harvest date: October 27. If you want to see the terraces, hurry up! If you miss it, you'll have to wait another year. 📸 Photography guide: To see the terraces at Longji, you can choose Jinkeng Village, Ping'an Zhuang Village, or Guzhuang Village. Jinkeng Village has the latest harvest and the most beautiful scenery. There are three viewing platforms here: No. 1 Xishan Shaole, No. 2 Thousand-Layer Ladder, and No. 3 Jinfo Top Viewing Platform, which is the highest and can be reached by cable car. If you choose to hike, I highly recommend the No. 2 Viewing Platform! It's a 20-minute climb from the mountainside homestay. Locals highly recommend the No. 2 Viewing Platform, claiming it has the best views. 🎫 Ticket: CNY 80 per person. 🌾 Best photo spots: ✔️ "Mountain for a Thousand Years" is a homestay located halfway up the mountain, offering panoramic views of the terraces. The courtyard and rooms are very photogenic, and the scenery is breathtaking. ✔️ The rice fields below "Mountain for a Thousand Years" can be photographed from the homestay's corridor. Even without a drone, you can take great photos. ✔️ Thousand-Layer Ladder: The viewing platform is spacious, and you can capture large areas of terraces from any angle. The only downside is that if you don't participate in the paid photography project, you can't go down to take photos. 🚘 Transportation: Longsheng is a county town with no high-speed rail station. You can take a bus from Yangshuo (Bilian Cave Parking Lot) to Jinkeng Village, which costs CNY 90 per person and takes about 4 hours. The bus from Guilin to Jinkeng Village costs CNY 50–65 per person (departing from the train station, prices vary by station) and takes 3 hours. Be sure to buy a direct ticket to Jinkeng Village, not to the Longji Terraces Ticket Office. The ticket office is 1 hour away from the village, and you need to transfer to a sightseeing bus, which is quite troublesome. It's recommended to drive yourself or hire a car from Guilin directly. Book your homestay in advance and arrange for the homestay manager to pick you up at the Jinkeng Village parking lot. 🏡 Accommodation: "Mountain for a Thousand Years" Viewing Homestay. If you can book a viewing room, don't book a regular room. The viewing room has a balcony and is beautiful and photogenic. During the flood season, the Li River and Yulong River are gurgling, making it the best time to participate in water sports. From August to October, the sun is abundant and the rain gradually decreases, which is the golden period for outdoor activities. There are two modes of transportation to reach Guilin: plane and train. 🚌 We took a 2 hour bus from Guilin City centre at 09:00 and back again at 17:30. You can book this through the local tour guide agencies around town. 🥾There is an option to take the cable car, but if you are moderately active, take the hiking path down instead. It will take you through some villages, houses and get you close up pictures with the rice fields. 🥟There are plenty of local food options at the start and top of the terrace. Longji Rice Terraces Scenic Area is very large and have 3 main villages. From Guilin it's around 1 and half hour drive. There is a big parking place and then electric car drive you to the hotel. You can spend one or two nights there and enjoy in a view and amazing nature. Food is also very good, try some local dishes and there is a lot of hotels with a good view from the room. We went during winter season, so the terraces were filled with water and reflected the warm sun as we hiked up the hills to see them. We loved not only the beautiful views, but also the hospitality from the local minority people who walked us there and also fed us in their home with traditional bamboo cooked rice.

In Longsheng, a deep mountain village in China's Guangxi Province, there is a village called Yongcheokjeon, where the Zhuang people live by farming on the mountainside almost to the top of the mountain. The reason this place is called that is because the terraced fields look like a dragon's spine. It was a travel destination where you could feel the history of ethnic minorities who migrated to the mountains to escape the Han Chinese, and the strength and greatness of humans who tried to make a living. Longsheng Mountain Rice Fields Getting There - Reach Guilin and then hire a taxi to reach the destination(Don’t miss the beautiful scenery in the view) Attractions - Rice Fields, Traditional Long Hair Women(They never get the haircut) Hotels - Local and Traditional Hotels to make you feel attached to the nature Food & Restaurants - Many Local restaurants serving the food with love and specially the rice grown there Shopping - Nothing as usual but you can buy the famous rice from them Best time to visit is September - Early October to get the best view because after that the locals cut down the rice fields

The Longhorn Rice Terrace, located in the town of Longji, which is roughly 100 kilometers from Guilin, China. There are lots of tourists agent provide one day trip from the city of Guilin. If you have never seen Rice Terrace before, this one is a must go. The view is so spectacular. There are choices of cable car or climb up. I choose not to take cable car this time, and the hiking is not bad at all. The view is fantastic along the route and you can even see some old villages along the route. The view on the top is even more great though, so if you are not a sport person, maybe just take the cable car. This place is more beautiful in fall time, but prepare for lots of tourists if you chose to go during the busy season

A wonderful day trip from Guilin. We arranged a private driver to take us as it was very hot and didn't want to spend the entire day exposed. There are, however, several options for organised tours available with the tourist agencies in Guilin. The drive from Guilin is nothing short of beautiful and the terraces are spectacular. Several villages on the way to stop for refreshments. We left after lunch and had enough time to visit only one of the terraces. If you go early in the morning you will be able to visit all three and visit the village where the women have very long hair. The cable car is a quick and easy way to get to the top of the terrace, but you can also hike up if you have more time.

This is definitely one of the most mindblowing attractions that we've visited in China so far! It is hard to believe that all these terraces are made by hands of peasants under the shining southern sun! We would definitely recommend to take a cableway first upon arrival and to take a small hike to your hotel after to get immediate dive into local atmosphere! 🚕🚎🚌 It is convinient to get here from Guilin by bus, that departures from Xiangjiang hotel ( 广西壮族自治区桂林市象山区环城西一路141号) around noon. It is a long distance bus, that goes without stops through really picturesque mountains! 🏞🏔🗻 This is a perfect place for hiking, with absolutely amazing roots. There are short and long trails, pretty wild and developed ones, designed to enjoy sunrises and sunsets. Everyone will be definitely able to find one suitable for themselves! 🏚🏠🏡 You can find all kind of boutique hotels here - not only fancy and glamorous, but also very simple and authentic options. 🍟🍔🍕 Local authentic Chinese cuisine is available more or less everywhere in small villages along terraces, but finding some European cuisine can be little bit challenging. Be aware that there are no McDonalds, KFC and other fast food chains here, but you can always enjoy a bowl of famous delicious local noodles pretty much everywhere. Getting There - From Guilin North Station, buy a bus ticket to the the Longji Rice Terrace scenic area (1.5 hours). Once you've reached the ticket office, you can take the shuttle bus (30 minutes) to Longji Ancient Zhuang Village, Ping'an Village, or Dazhai Village, the three villages that serve as gateways to the breathtaking hillside rice fields. Attractions - Longsheng County is home to the famous Longji Rice Terraces, a mind-boggling feat of agricultural engineering. The seemingly endless rows of rice terraces carved into the hillsides are said to resemble the rippling scales on a dragon's backbone when filled with water, giving the terraces their name, which literally means "dragon's spine." Accommodation - Staying overnight in a traditional wooden guesthouse is another great experience. There are many such guesthouses in the villages that overlook the rice terraces, but be aware that their conditions and services are not comparable to hotels in the big cities. Food - Visiting these minority villages is also a great opportunity to try some local cuisine; some of the best-known dishes include rice or chicken cooked inside fresh bamboo tubes. Definitely worth a try!

Overall - Wow! This hotel felt like something straight out of a mountain cabin dream. We drove here from Guilin and arrived to the property after a 15 minute walk up the town road. We were greeted by our lovely hosts upon arrival, who helped us settle in and made sure we had everything we needed. Room - Our room was excellent. Very clean and organized. It came with two beds and a spacious balcony with a view of the Longji Rice Terraces. It also smelled incredible because of the wooden architecture. The details of wooden carvings throughout our room and hotel were beautifully intricate. Nearby Activities - About a 10 minute walk from the hotel sits the famous Longji Rice Terraces. We hiked up to the top and headed back down through a quaint town filled with stunning character and unique surprises along the way. It was an interesting experience being the only tourists to visit at the time, so we had a clear view of the surroundings. I was able to fly my drone over the Terraces and the beauty of this landscape is truly astounding! Food - We had a delicious dinner of Bamboo Rice and chicken. A dish that is famous to the local area and quickly became a favorite staple to our meals on the rest of the trip. Thank you to Jason and his wife for making us feel so welcome! We had the best time.
