Rating: When you come to Seogwipo Olle Market in Jeju Island, you must try the specialty rice cake, Granny’s Orange Rice Cake. Each portion is 5000 won and has 5 pieces. Actually, I wasn't interested in the orange rice cake when I first saw it. Plus, there were too many people the night before, so I decided to do an experiment and bought a 7,000 won orange rice cake from another stall for comparison. Because the colors of other brands make me even less interested. It doesn't taste very good. The next morning, I went to the pork soup restaurant next door, which was run by Wang's son-in-law, to have breakfast. The owner of the old lady's shop enthusiastically gave me two servings of orange rice cakes and said it was a treat for customers who came to the store. I was still hesitant about the taste of yesterday’s stall and was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to finish it.
However, the authentic grandma's orange rice cake looks very fresh in color and the orange looks plump. The rice cake has a shiny surface, thin skin and rich fillings. The color of red bean paste is also a beautiful dark red.
After eating the pork soup and rice, I went to buy some medicinal fruit. Get ready for your next stop at a classic picnic.
Four hours later we arrived at the restaurant and opened the orange rice cakes. We thought that since they had been stored for so long, we didn't have high expectations for the taste. Unexpectedly, the orange tastes so juicy and tender. The sweet and sour taste of the orange blends perfectly with the sweetness of the red bean paste. The thin outer layer of rice cake covers the sweetness of the two and adds a touch of flavor to the taste. The stock is sweet and soft. It's completely different food from the defective food that cost 7,000 won and 4 yuan yesterday. I thought we wouldn’t be able to finish it, but Sasha and I devoured it in no time and even thought we should buy two more boxes to eat the next day. But I gave up the idea because I was worried that the rice cake would harden if it got frozen.
As for the medicinal fruit, it tastes like solid shachima, and the taste and texture are very special. The taste is also good.
Remember if you want to try the fresh orange rice cake at Ou Lai Market, you must buy it from Grandma’s Rice Cake House. Only then can you taste the real deliciousness.
