The park was designated as a national park on September 5, 1950. The easiest way to reach the Bandai-Azuma/Inawashiro area is by riding the Tohoku Shinkansen to Fukushima Station or Koriyama Station, then renting a car. The animals such as marshes and wetlands around the park are graced with flowers such as daylilies and the fragrant maiden lily. The park's lush forests and wetlands shelter a variety of mammals as well, such as Asiatic black bears and Japanese serows, as well as golden eagles and peregrine falcons.
