2025 Ocho Rios Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in February)

Dunn S River Falls In Jamaica One of the ports of call for our Royal Caribbean cruiseship during the week of November 28/04 was Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Probably the most famous site in the region is Dunn’s River Falls and we chose to tour it on our own rather than through one of the cruiseship tours. Once we disembarked from the cruiseship, there were cabs and shuttlebuses available at the pier. Cabs to Dunn’s River Falls were $22 US for a return trip. Cabs allowed 1-3 people per vehicle. We were also told at the pier that small shuttlebuses also go to the Falls at $5.50 US per person. These were also based on return trips. The only problem with shuttlebuses was that we had to wait until they filled up the shuttle before leaving for the Falls so since we were the first on the bus, we had to wait about 15 minutes for it to fill up. The driver then asks you when you want to be picked up at the Falls for the return trip. Our driver suggested 2 hours to see the Falls so we agreed on this time duration. Located in Ocho Rios near Montego Bay, Dunn's River Falls is one of Jamaica's iconic natural attractions. It is made up of multiple layers of limestone steps, with water cascading down the mountain to form a spectacular waterfall with a total drop of 180 meters. Legend has it that this was once a sacred site for the ancient indigenous people, who believed that the water had magical healing powers. Opening Hours Open daily from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Recommended visit time: 3–4 hours. Note: The rocks in the waterfall area are slippery, so be careful when walking and wear non-slip shoes. Follow the guide's instructions and pay attention to safety when climbing the waterfall. Those who are unwell or have special medical conditions should be cautious about participating. Ticket Prices Adult tickets are USD 25, with discounts for children. Ticket prices have not changed recently. Activities First, enjoy the full view of the waterfall from the viewing platform at the bottom and feel its majestic power. Then, join a guided waterfall climbing activity, climbing up the waterfall's steps and streams to experience the fun of getting close to nature in the cool water. The guide will help visitors find safe footholds and introduce the waterfall's history and related knowledge. After the activity, you can buy souvenirs in the shops or enjoy delicious food in the restaurants around the waterfall to relax. Transportation From Montego Bay, you can take a tour bus directly to Dunn's River Falls, which takes about 1.5 hours. You can also rent a car and drive along the coastal highway, enjoying the beautiful sea views along the way. Itinerary Nearby: Not far from the waterfall is Dolphin Cove, where you can interact with dolphins and swim with them. We recommend staying at the Sandals Royal Plantation Hotel in Ocho Rios, which has an elegant environment and first-class service. It is close to Dunn's River Falls, and some rooms offer direct views of the sea or gardens. Food: You can try Jamaican specialties at the hotel restaurant, such as jerk chicken, which is marinated in special jerk spices and grilled to be spicy and delicious, and festival, a fried dough that is soft, sweet, and delicious. Preparation Bring a valid ID such as an ID card or passport. Prepare a set of quick-drying clothes and a towel to change into after climbing the waterfall. A waterproof bag is also essential to protect your phone, camera, and other electronic devices so you can take photos during your visit.

If you are looking for a great adventure, look no further. This attraction is a fun place for everyone; solo travelers, families and couples. It is located in the south of island in the tourist town of Ocho Rios. Be prepared to be entertained from the beginning because in order to get to the spot you need to the Sky Explorer, the view is everything! At the top, there is the Bobsled ride (personal fav), canopy zip-line, gift shops, plus other more.
