Experiences in Nordhorn
Surrounded by the Nordhorn Heath, Nordhorn is located in the immediate vicinity of the Dutch border. The center of attraction for tourists is the zoo. Here you can experience meerkats and even wolves up close. The zoo is especially beautiful in winter, when the grounds are decorated for Christmas. Another popular destination is the Frenswegen Monastery, which is best reached by bike. The whole area is bike-friendly and numerous bike paths lead through fascinating moors and heaths all the way to the Netherlands. Several times a year a market is held in the monastery. The modern building of the town museum hides the centuries-old history of the town.

Our family visit to Nordhorn Zoo was a memorable experience that both the kids and adults enjoyed! 🦒 Nestled in the charming town of Nordhorn, Germany, this zoo has a unique and cozy feel that made it perfect for a family day out. The entrance fee was quite reasonable at €11 for adults and €8 for children, which is great for a full day of fun. The zoo itself is well laid out, with easy walking paths that wind through a variety of enclosures, ensuring you're never far from an exciting animal encounter.
The highlight for our kids was definitely the petting area, where they could interact with goats and sheep. Watching their faces light up as they fed the animals was priceless! 🐐 The zoo also houses a wide range of animals, from the majestic lions and tigers to the playful penguins and cheeky monkeys. 🐒 We spent quite a bit of time observing the meerkats and their antics – they never failed to entertain us with their curious nature!
What sets Nordhorn Zoo apart is its focus on conservation and education. We appreciated the informative signs about each species, which provided insights into the animals' natural habitats and the zoo's efforts to protect them. The zoo also has a few playgrounds for the kids, where they can burn off some energy, and a couple of cozy cafes offering coffee and snacks.
Nearby, you can explore the charming town of Nordhorn with its picturesque canals and local shops. For those wanting to extend their stay, there are plenty of scenic walking and cycling routes in the area. 🚴♂️
