November travel destination - Nice
#100waysoftravel
I suggest you perfect destination to travel in November - Nice (France). It is a lovely time to visit Nice. The tourists have gone home and the weather is often sunny and bright.
The weather during November is typically mild, with temperatures ranging from 11 to 16°C (52 to 60.8°F). There may be occasional rain but it's usually short and light.
Hotel prices tend to be way lower than they usually would during the high season.
We stayed in The Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel for 300$ per night (900$ during summer time)
Price for rent in the car also going down - we had Tesla for 100$ for 3 days
And it’s plenty of things to do in Nice during all year long, I’ll share it in my next posts if you interested
The History of St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Nice 🕍✨
The St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in Nice is not only a stunning architectural gem, but also a significant symbol of Russian history on the French Riviera. 🇷🇺🏞️
A Gift of History 🏛️
Built in 1912, the cathedral was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas II as a tribute to his late son, Tsarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich, who tragically died in Nice in 1865. The cathedral was constructed to serve the large Russian community that frequented the Côte d'Azur during that time, a reflection of the close ties between Russia and Nice. 🕊️🌍
Architectural Beauty 🕍
Inspired by the traditional Russian Orthodox style, the cathedral is a breathtaking sight. Its vibrant onion domes, intricate brickwork, and golden details make it stand out amidst the Mediterranean scenery. It’s the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe, and its interior is just as magnificent – adorned with frescoes, icons, and ornate woodwork that instantly transport visitors to the grandeur of Imperial Russia. 🎨✨
A Place of Worship and History 📜
The cathedral remains a place of active worship and is open to visitors who wish to admire its beauty and learn more about the deep historical connection between Russia and Nice. As you walk through its peaceful gardens, you can reflect on its unique story – a blend of spiritual devotion and historical memory, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. 🌿🙏
Whether you’re captivated by its architecture, its history, or the spiritual tranquillity it offers, St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral is a must-visit for anyone exploring Nice's cultural heritage. 🌸🕍

Nice, located in the heart of the French Riviera, is famous for its breathtaking beaches. The Promenade des Anglais stretches along the coast, providing a perfect pathway for leisurely strolls where you can bask in the Mediterranean sun and breeze. Nice | The azure coast kissed by angels
During this month-long trip around France, we were completely relaxed and unplanned, driving wherever we wanted, and we didn't arrive in Nice until late in the evening, but the sun was still shining brightly.
We leisurely strolled around the Bay of Angels, and this kind of relaxed and go-with-the-flow feeling was just wonderful!
You must arrive in Nice in the summer, because the sea here is really too beautiful.
🌴Main attractions in Nice:
📍Old Town of Nice
📍Port of Nice
📍Promenade des Anglais
📍Bay of Angels
📍Azure Coast (Gradient Coast)
📍Massena Square
📍Rothschild Garden Villa
The city of Nice is not very big, you can basically finish touring it in one day. If you have enough time, you can go to the nearby town of Antibes, which can be visited and returned on the same day.
Nice - The Truest Blue
Getting There - easy to fly into. Light rail is slow but convenient to get around the city.
Attractions - the main beach. But I also recommend going further away by train to the smaller towns nearby.
The water is not always azure / that blue. I got lucky, even the tour guide said so— it was hard to come by. Depends on the sky clouds and microorganisms in the water.
Hotels - all range cater for various budgets.
Food & Restaurants - different from Paris, restaurants don’t let you use the bathroom unless you dine there, which is ridiculous imho.
Seafood and Italian cuisine are famous.
Shopping - some boutiques but too touristy for me.

Strong-willed Russian Orthodox Church✨
There's not much to do in Nice other than swimming in the ocean.
If you like art, you can go to the Chagall Museum!
But for those who aren't interested in art like me, I recommend this place.
No photography allowed inside🚫
It's a little bit away from the center,
but it's not too far.
✅ Tip
I take a lot of pictures in front,
but not the front, but the second picture spot right next to it (on the right side when looking)
is a really pretty photo spot.
If you go there, be sure to take a picture here :)

Le Meridien Nice
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Le Meridien Nice, and overall, it was a delightful experience. The hotel boasts several noteworthy features that made my stay quite enjoyable. First and foremost, the breathtaking beach view from my room was truly unforgettable. Waking up to the sight of the azure Mediterranean Sea was an incredible way to start each day. The proximity to the beach is a major selling point for this hotel, allowing guests to easily access the sandy shores and soak up the sun.
One aspect of Le Meridien Nice that pleasantly surprised me was the Asian section at breakfast. As a traveler from Asia, it was a pleasant rarity to find such a wide variety of Asian breakfast options in Europe. The hotel went above and beyond in catering to diverse palates, offering a delightful range of dishes from various Asian cuisines. This thoughtful touch made me feel right at home and added an extra layer of enjoyment to my mornings.
Additionally, I was fortunate enough to receive a suite upgrade during my stay. The suite was spacious, elegantly furnished, and exuded a sense of luxury. The attention to detail and the level of comfort provided in the suite were truly remarkable. It felt like a true retreat where I could relax and unwind after a day of exploration.
However, while there were many positives, one aspect that fell short of my expectations was the infinity pool. It was relatively small and located right in front of the restaurant, which detracted from the serene ambiance I had hoped for. Nevertheless, this drawback was quickly overshadowed by the hotel's prime beachfront location. With the beach just a stone's throw away, it was easy to forego the pool and instead enjoy the refreshing waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
Overall, my experience at Le Meridien Nice was highly enjoyable. The stunning beach view, the inclusion of an Asian section at breakfast, and the luxurious suite upgrade were all highlights of my stay. While the infinity pool didn't quite meet my expectations, the hotel's unbeatable beachfront location more than made up for it. I would highly recommend Le Meridien Nice to anyone seeking a memorable and relaxing seaside getaway. #marriott
Nice is nice!
#nice #summer2022
The deep blue waters of the Cote d’Azur are the dramatic backdrop for elegant Nice. Breathe in the fresh Mediterranean air as you stroll the famous Promenade des Anglais, be charmed by the quaint streets of Old Town, or get a panoramic view of the whole city from atop Castle Hill. Indulge in classic Provençal dishes and wines in one of the city’s intimate cafes or bustling brasseries.
A museum where you can immerse yourself in the world of Chagall
It's a small museum within walking distance of the Nice train station. I was able to enjoy Chagall's religious views and distinctive colors! The stained glass in the auditorium is especially a must-see.
Old Town
#celebratewithtrip
The Old Town of Nice is full of historic tenements, churches and squares.
Standing at the heart of the square of the same name, the Palais de Justice de Nice is a unique monument in its imposing architecture and its great history which recounts the wealth, diversity, and the heritage of the city.
The Cours Saleya is an elongated square that, until midday, is filled with stalls of flowers and food, and which later transforms into a huge restaurant under the open sky.
The Cathedral of St. Reparata built in Baroque style, whose colourful dome is perfectly visible from Castle Hill. The structure has a basilical layout with triple nave and a transept. There are also over ten chapels inside the cathedral commemorating different saints.
It is worth going for a walk, to visit some of the charming corners and feel the spirit of this amazing place.

Indulge Yourself at La Tarte Tropézienne
We wanted to try this Tropezienne Tarte and although it originates from St. Tropez, most of the French Riviera resorts have adopted it.
If you’ve ever had a Victoria Sponge Cake it’s pretty much that with some sugar crystals sprinkled on top. Goes very well with your favourite hot beverage.
Additionally we tried the triple chocolates mousse cake which, as a self prescribed chocoholic, I must say was divine. The Noisette and Raspberry cakes were equally good however, it didn’t match the triple chocolates cake.

Marcel Bistro Chic is overall a good choice if you want to try typical French cuisine. It also boasts proudly some awards listed on their façade.
They have pretty much most of the popular classics. From coq au vin to beef bourguignonne and even some of the more interesting frog legs or foie gras.
I had the beef bourguignonne and Hristina had the coq au vin. Both very nice and well cooked. The sauces were thick and the wine sauce was full of depth and flavour.
Word of advice - be prepared to wait for a table as this is a popular place and tables go quickly. It's located on a cosy little street and the ambiance is great.

Cimiez Monastery: peace, beauty and contemplation
Cimiez Monastery, with the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the Franciscan Museum, is worth a visit. The monastery looks really nice on the inside. When we went it was rather quiet, so a good opportunity to stay in peace for a bit and relax after a tiring morning of exploring Nice.
The garden of the Monastery, with its rose garden and Mediterranean plants, is beautiful with a view that embraces a large part of the city, all the way to the sea. Henri Matisse, Roger Martin du Gard and Raoul Dufy are buried in the adjacent cemetery.
The Monastery is without doubt the most emblematic site in Cimiez and we really enjoyed our time there.

Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas de Nice
The Cathedral features typical Russian motifs with the iconic onion domes and bright paint colours. It reminded us of the Russian Church in Sofia, Bulgaria.
We really enjoyed the architecture and felt it was a must see in Nice.
The cathedral, consecrated in December 1912 in memory of Nicholas Alexandrovich, Tsarevich of Russia, who died in Nice, was meant to serve the large Russian community that had settled in Nice by the end of the 19th century, as well as devout visitors from the Imperial Court.
We visited the cathedral on our last day in Nice on a Sunday during the mass. It was full of people from different nationalities, all sharing the same Orthodox religion.
The cathedral is very beautiful on the outside and nicely done on the inside.

This is a property of the Russian Federation, it is recognized as a national monument of France, and it currently belongs to the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate. It is the largest Eastern Orthodox cathedral in Western Europe.
The cathedral was opened in 1912, thanks to the generosity of Russia’s Tsar Nicholas II. From 1931 until 15 December 2011 (after a longstanding legal dispute over ownership was resolved), the parish that occupied the cathedral was part of the Paris-based Patriarchal Exarchate for Orthodox Parishes of Russian Tradition in Western Europe under the jurisdiction of the Church of Constantinople.

On this mountain you will be able to find the 16th century fort with the same name which protected the nearby areas as well as stunning views of Port Lympia and the nearby gulfs.
The fort was closed when we went there but that didn’t stop us from enjoying this spectacular view.
From there you can proceed through the forest. Walking down the hill you will notice that this area is a like a public garden with plenty of picnic benches and recreational game areas.
To be enjoyed on a sunny Sunday for sure! Amazing place :)

The Greeks were first to establish a city by the name of Nikaia.
It’s believed they named it after the Greek Goddess of victory – Nike. Now you also know the origins of the name of the famous shoes brand.
Up until the 18th century most of its history was part of Italy’s and namely under the Duchy of Savoy. The official language was Italian and everything about the city was of Italian influence.
After changing a few times hands between the French and the Italian Kingdoms, Nice ultimately became part of nowadays France. The agreement between France and Italy was ratified through a referendum offered to the people of Nice.
