Mountain climbing in the Spanish suburbs - Montserrat, a jagged rock mountain
#mountain climbing #100 ways to travel
When traveling to Spain, you have to climb mountains! And it's not an ordinary mountain, but #MonserratMount Montserrat, also known as the #Sawtooth Mountain. It is located in the northern suburbs of Barcelona. First take a train to the cable car station at the foot of the mountain (about 1 hour), and then transfer to the cable car or cog train to #MonserratMonastery Abadia de Montserrat. The majestic stone stands right in front of you, which is super shocking!
#Monserrate Monastery is a very interesting monastery. It has the legendary Black-faced Madonna and a young poetry group. Because the monastery rises from the steep terrain, it has an excellent view. There is not only something to see, some to rest, but also a restaurant.
After visiting the monastery, you can go to several hiking trails, because Montserrat is a sandstone mountain with a unique landform, with strange rocks and cliffs. The jagged mountains left by river erosion, deep canyons, and bizarre rock peaks and pillars, as well as dense forests, create Montserrat's unique scenery.
For general tourists, it is recommended to walk to #圣麦奎尔十字Sant Miquel, which is a cross observation deck standing on a cliff. You can have a complete overlook of the entire Monserrate Peak, the monastery, and the cable car. It is quite shocking! One cannot help but admire the wonders of nature, and be sure to come and take pictures.

A Must-Visit Mountain Town in Barcelona: Montserrat Monastery Tour
When you visit Europe, you must explore the charming mountain towns! Just an hour's drive from Barcelona, Montserrat Mountain is famous for its unique jagged rocks. You can easily reach it by train from the city center, making the trip very convenient. The main purpose of this visit is to enjoy the mountain scenery and the monastery.
Upon arrival at the foot of the mountain, you can take a cable car directly to the top. The cable car ride is very steep, but the breathtaking scenery along the way, surrounded by mountains, is truly worth it. Once at the top, follow the path to reach Montserrat Monastery. This monastery houses the Black Madonna statue, which is said to have miraculous healing powers, attracting countless pilgrims. However, the queue to worship is very long, so we chose to stay for a while and admire the exquisite interior decorations of the church. The unique chandelier designs and intricate carvings inside the church are something I personally enjoyed very much.
Tips
/ It is recommended to allocate half a day to Montserrat Mountain to easily enjoy the beautiful scenery and culture here.
/ For those who want to experience hiking, you can also set aside more time to explore the surrounding trails.

A must visit spot just an hour away from Barcelona!
Definitely a must visit spot when visiting Barcelona.
The view was amazing, unique, sawtooth mountain. This place is very easy to reach from the city, Monserrat is just an hour train ride from Barcelona.
Board the train from Placa espana and stop at aeri de montserrat station. Take the cable car or the furnicular to reach the mountain. Had the great view while riding the cable car to the top.
A day trip or half day trip is enough to Monserrat truly a beautiful place to visit. #barcelona#cataluña #spain

The Monastery’s entrance
#newyearnewtrip
The archway at Montserrat is part of the monastery's entrance and is often considered a symbolic feature of the site, giving it a grand, welcoming feel. This historic arch is part of the architectural beauty of the monastery and plays a role in its overall design. The archway is a nice place to take pictures, you will get to see a lot of visitors walk around this area and take pictures. Besides that, you can visit the Basilica of Montserrat and the Cloisters.

A street of stalls in Montserrat
#newyearnewtrip
A street of stalls can be found along the road near the Montserrat Monastery. You will find souvenirs such as Montserrat-themed gifts like postcards, magnets, and t-shirts; local products such as local cheeses, jam, handmade crafts; snacks and refreshments such as nuts, local pastries, ice cream and more at the stalls. It is nice to walk along the stalls and try their local products. The stalls are usually open during day time and especially on weekends and during peak seasons.

Rack railway in Montserrat

The Cremallera de Montserrat is a rack railway that connects Monistrol de Montserrat (a town at the base of the mountain) to the Montserrat Monastery. This railway provides a scenic and unique way to ascend the mountain. The Cremallera de Montserrat starts from Monistrol de Montserrat station, which is easily accessible from Barcelona by train (R4 line to Monistrol de Montserrat). The journey lasts about 15-20 minutes and it runs regularly for every 30 minutes.

Another funicular in Montserrat to Santa Cova
#newyearnewtrip
The Funicular de la Santa Cova is another funicular located at Montserrat, it takes visitors from the Montserrat Monastery down to the Santa Cova (Holy Cave). Santa Cova (Holy Cave) is an important site in Montserrat's history and religious tradition. Once you're at the monastery, the Funicular de la Santa Cova station is nearby. This funicular will take you down the mountain to the site of the Santa Cova cave and the ride takes about 5 minutes. You will get to enjoy the views of the mountains and landscape.

Montserrat
If you visit Barcelona, don't forget to dedicate one day to see Montserrat and set off early. Easy DIY for me, but I went out late for my travel to the this sanctuary. Could've savor the place more coz sitting and just watching the place and the mountains if just relaxing. I went in December so it's a bit windy and cold, but tolerable at 15-20 degrees. Overall, I loved it. ❤️🥹 #jelaitravels

(Traveling Spain) Monastery of the Rock Formations
#2025 Overseas Travel Event
I chose Montserrat as a trip near Barcelona. I took a mountain train to go to the monastery in the mountains at 1200m above sea level. I enjoyed the view from the square that was open on all sides and seemed to be floating in the sky, and I took a walk and looked around slowly.

(Traveling Spain) Riding the mountain train
#2025 Overseas Travel Event
I decided to go to the Montserrat Monastery as a trip from Barcelona. It is a monastery that you can only see by taking a train and then changing to a mountain train and going up a very high mountain. The scenery you see as you go up is art. It is a quiet natural sight.

Montserrat, a great travel destination near Barcelona✅
#Overseas travel
🇪🇸Montserrat🇪🇸
✅ It can be chilly because it is a mountainous area~ I went in February and knits and light padding were good.
✅ Since there are no restaurants or places to eat in Montserrat, I recommend taking something simple to eat like bread or cookies from a mart or cafe.
✅ The world's first boys' choir, Escolania, performs on weekdays at 1 PM. However, they say they don't do it during the vacation season.

【Spain】Montserrat: Magnificent and unique jagged mountains
The Montserrat Mountains in Spain are famous for their majestic ridges and unique topography, attracting many tourists and pilgrims. The ridges of this mountain range are strangely jagged and composed of limestone, forming many spectacular canyons, caves and peaks.
The Monserrate Monastery, located on a mountain, is considered one of the most important religious sites in Spain✝️. As soon as you enter the monastery, you will be deeply attracted by its magnificence and grandeur. There are many works of art and precious religious relics in the main church, including the famous Black Madonna.
Monserrat makes people feel the beauty of the combination of religion and nature. Its magnificent scenery and spiritual atmosphere are unforgettable, and it also makes people feel a rare spiritual peace😌.
📍Location: Located in Catalonia, Spain, about 50 kilometers from Barcelona
🚝Transportation: Take a train from downtown Barcelona to Monserrat Train Station, and then take the cable car (Aeri de Montserrat) to the mountains🚡

- Montserrat Viewpoint
Many people who travel to Montserrat just see the statue of the Virgin Mary and leave, but I heard from the guide that it is recommended to visit the viewpoint!
I went there after taking my time because I was told that it would only take 20 minutes to get there, but it was a bit uncomfortable because there were a lot of steep slopes and dirt roads!
But as soon as I arrived, I liked the wide open view and the photos I took with the monastery in the background, so I recommend you visit it even though it is difficult!
