Benten Pond in Yamaguchi
There is a beautiful blue pond called Benten Pond in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Although it has the name Beppu in it, it's actually located in Yamaguchi!
One of Japan's three major karsts, the clear blue water that springs from the karst plateau of Akiyoshidai is the beautiful Benten Pond.
Recently, it has become famous as a power spot and has also been selected as one of Japan's 100 famous waters✨
The spring water is also used as drinking water, and there is a water supply station, so be sure to try it!
Nearby, there are attractions like Akiyoshidai and Akiyoshido Cave, as well as camping sites, so it's recommended to include these in your sightseeing plans!
Akiyoshido Cave in Yamaguchi
I visited Akiyoshido Cave in Yamaguchi.
This cave is one of the three great limestone caves of Japan, and I was moved by the magnificent natural beauty of its formations.
Upon entering the cave, a fantastical world unfolds, with oddly shaped rocks and stalactites carved out in stunning landscapes that catch the eye.
As you proceed through the cave, you can see stalactites of various shapes and colors, and their beauty is breathtaking.
In particular, the sound of dripping water and the silence inside the cave create a mystical atmosphere, and I was amazed by the natural sculptural power.
The cave has high humidity and some slippery areas, so it was necessary to explore carefully and with safety in mind.
Also, the history and formation process of the cave are written about in detail, so you can gain interesting knowledge.
The cave is cool inside, and it is crowded with people seeking relief from the heat during the hot season.
Because there are many tourists, I recommend choosing an early time slot if you want to enjoy a quiet time.
Overall, Akiyoshido Cave in Yamaguchi is a wonderful place where you can fully enjoy the natural beauty of the formations.
Surrounded by a mystical atmosphere and beautiful scenery, you can touch the history of the Earth and the wonders of nature.
It is definitely a tourist spot worth visiting.
Recommended Spot in Yamaguchi Prefecture: Akiyoshidai Karst Observatory
If you visit Yamaguchi Prefecture, you must definitely go to Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park.
The Akiyoshidai Observatory, located within the Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park, is said to be the largest karst plateau in Japan.
Limestone stretches across the highlands for about 8km, and this area is known as the Karst Road.
When you actually visit, you can experience a magnificent landscape that cannot be fully captured in photos, making you feel as if you are not in Japan.
There is also a cafe nearby where you can enjoy meals and coffee while overlooking the highlands.
The starry sky at night was incredibly beautiful.

Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park
Address: Mine, Yamaguchi 754-0602, Japan.
Getting there: The best way is to travel by taxi or by rental car. Huge parking space is provided.
Highlights: Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park is served by a natural history museum, visitor centre, rest house, youth hostel and park headquarters building, and is traversed by a scenic roadway and several walking trails.
The plateau consists of uplifted reef limestones of Paleozoic age, which were thickened by overfolding during the Akiyoshidai orogenic movement. Subsequent erosion has created an undulating karst landscape dimpled with many dolines and countless limestone pinnacles up to two meters in height. The landscape and the hike was really amazing and you should definitely try it yourself! 😬😁
