Mianshan Scenic Area Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
The mountain does not see me, I go to see the mountain myself, Mian Mountain
Also known as Mianshang, it was later called Jie Mountain because Jie Zitui of the Spring and Autumn period's Jin state carried his mother to live in seclusion here and was burned to death. Ticket price: 160r (adult ticket + round-trip shuttle) Mian Mountain is really very large, and there are many winding mountain roads, so the shuttle is necessary. It is recommended to tour from the innermost to the outer part, as the route is more straightforward. The Mianshan Scenic Area in Jinzhong City is about a 2-hour drive from Taiyuan. We chose to join a group for a one-day trip and only visited three iconic spots. Shuitaogou is still very crowded during peak periods, but the natural scenery is very comfortable, with some small waterfalls and water curtain caves, suitable for taking photos and breathing in oxygen. Yunfeng Temple has 108 steps (very steep), but the process of climbing to the top also has the meaning of overcoming troubles, just don't look back, just muster the energy and climb up! Daluo Palace has a bit of a Potala Palace feel, with different main halls on each level, just follow the path, and there is an elevator that can take you directly to the top (for an additional fee of 5r)

🌟Attraction Guide
1️⃣Shuitao Gully/Ancient Vine Valley
This is the last stop of the bus. It is said that Shuitao Gully requires about three hours for a round trip of 8km, which is quite time-consuming. Since we went during Qingming Festival when the greenery was not lush and time was limited, we didn't go far and turned back. This attraction is mainly natural scenery, which should be great in summer! If you have enough energy and time, it's worth a hike.
The Ancient Vine Valley mainly features stone carvings and towering ancient trees, with general scenery.
2️⃣Qixian Valley
The second stop of the bus return trip, this area has exciting iron chain climbing, taking about half an hour in total. Then, continue climbing up to see the zodiac sculptures, and after passing them, you can reach the Qixian Valley elevator, which takes about half an hour to reach Jie Zitui's tomb. Then, there is a cableway to go down the mountain back to the entrance of Shuitao Gully service area.
3️⃣Zhengguo Temple
You need to take an elevator to reach the tower, with a one-way trip costing 15 RMB per person. After going up, there is a Lingying Tower with steep stairs. Then, it takes about half an hour to walk from Zhengguo Temple, passing the Z-shaped plank road, to the iron chain climbing spot. Turn right and go straight to reach Yunfeng Temple.
4️⃣Yunfeng Temple
A classic photo spot in Mian Mountain. The view from the top is stunning, and you can capture the whole panorama from the cave side. There is also a zigzag plank road to climb.
5️⃣Sky Bridge
There is a thrilling suspension plank road built on a sheer cliff. You must go up and experience it!
6️⃣Da Luo Palace
Built against the mountain, the panoramic view is quite spectacular. It consists of thirteen levels with a total height of 110 meters, praised as the 'Mini Potala Palace'. You can take an elevator up.
7️⃣Longtou Temple
It is the first stop when entering the scenic area. There is the only free explanation available, which is worth listening to briefly. In this area, you can climb to the Dragon Head or take the cable car to the front of Jie Zitui's mother and son statue. We didn't go up due to time constraints.
❤️Summary
Although Mian Mountain is not widely promoted, it truly lives up to its reputation and is definitely worth the ticket price. You will be repeatedly amazed by the wisdom of the ancients! Finally, welcome everyone to visit Shanxi!

The Magical Mianshan, A Human Wonderland
In the central-southern part of Shanxi Province, there lies a place of exceptional natural beauty and cultural heritage—Jiexiu Mianshan.
Mianshan, like a magnificent and grand landscape painting, slowly unfolds before the eyes of the world. Its towering peaks and ridges, cliffs and precipices as if carved by the axe and chisel of nature, display the miraculous work of the natural world. The vegetation on the mountain is lush and verdant, as if the mountain range has been draped in a layer of emerald attire. With the changing of the seasons, the colors are dazzling and breathtaking.
Mianshan has a long history and profound cultural depth. It was once the hermitage of Jie Zitui, a famous minister of the Jin state during the Spring and Autumn period, whose story of 'cutting flesh to feed his lord' has been passed down through the ages, adding a touch of loyalty and righteousness to Mianshan. Walking along the ancient paths between the mountains, one can almost feel the vicissitudes and weight of history. Those ancient relics and legends, like twinkling stars, are scattered across this magical land.
Shuitaogou is a stunningly beautiful landscape of Mianshan, where the stream babbles, clear to the bottom, rushing down the valley, splashing up crystal-clear droplets, playing a delightful symphony. Waterfalls hang between the mountains like silver chains, misty and dreamlike. Qixiangu is full of thrills and excitement, with narrow valley plank roads winding, challenging people's courage and bravery.
The temples and palaces of Mianshan are scattered like stars in the sky, with buildings such as Yunfeng Temple and Daluo Palace majestic in their presence, with flying eaves and towering arches, carved beams and painted rafters, showcasing the charm of ancient architectural art. Here, religious culture and natural scenery are perfectly integrated, inspiring awe and devotion in visitors.
Jiexiu Mianshan is both a masterpiece of nature and a treasure of historical culture. It attracts countless tourists to explore and appreciate, leaving them intoxicated and reluctant to leave. Stepping into Mianshan is to enter a magical world, a place where one's soul can be nourished and elevated.
