2024 Mexico City Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Mexico City often gets unfairly excluded from the mix of great North American travel destinations, but travelers here invariably discover the Distrito Federal offers countless surprises. The formidable pre-Columbian city of Teotihuacan, located just outside the city, rivals the Pyramids of Egypt in size, beauty and historic importance. The Centro Historico, home to the Aztec Templo Mayor, is a highlight for vacationers who simply enjoy walking through the Zócalo, the world’s third largest square behind Moscow’s Red Square and Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. Also atop many visitors lists of things to do is the Chapultepec park, complete with a zoo and many museums, including the National Museum of Anthropology, was regarded as one of the world’s most important museums dedicated to the field. For shopping and nightlife, check out the Polanco borough, one of the wealthiest in Mexico City – designers like Chanel and Hermes have shops here. When it comes time to use, the D.F. does not skimp on options or quality. Unique Mexican dishes and snacks like equities or Puebla can be found at institutions from your corner vendor to a five-star restaurant in the Polanco. For lodging, see in the Zona Rosa for the most reasonably priced hotels or in Polanco for swank stays.

Immersive experience in Mexico City's Wonderland
Fantasy Lab is a place for immersive experience while in Mexico City. Exposition changes, so it's difficult to tell what you will see exactly. But in any case, it is a great experience.
The place consists of you rooms, each room has its theme: it may be about lights, it may be about perspective, it may be about senses, it may be about sound, it may be something gorgeous happening on the screens...
It is conveniently located within in a shopping mall and as well it has its own café where you can grab a drink while waiting for your turn to enter. Reservation can be made online.

Best spot to watch jacaranda blooming in Mexico city
Depending on the weather, Jacaranda tree usually starts to bloom in February in Mexico City. It is absolutely stunning, and quite a famous thing to enjoy similar to the experience of blooming Sakura in Japan.
There are many places where you can see how around the trees all across Mexico. One of my favorite spots to enjoy lovely purple violet flowers of Jacaranda in Mexico City is at Condesa at Parque Mexico.
It is a big park with many paths to walk, and it is surrounded by all beautiful buildings that look awesome behind blooming Jacaranda branches. There are plenty of cafés and street food vendors to grab a snack for your walk.

Mexico City 4 days 3 nights walking map, super comprehensive guide that can be copied
I stayed in Mexico City for a week before and after, and I declare that CDMX is my spiritual hometown! There are world-class buildings and museums everywhere, and there are countless places to play and visit. It is a city that will never make people feel bored. I have compiled a super comprehensive guide for 4 days and 3 nights, welcome to refer 🥰
【Day 1 Historic Old Town】
📍Constitution Square - Main Church - National Palace - Temple Mayor Museum - National Art Museum - Palacio Postal - Palace of Art
On the first day, you can walk around the old city and check in at several important points. The National Palace has a tour only at specific times every day; the interior of the National Art Museum is very classic and beautiful; the Palace of Art has the best murals; Palacio Postal just pass by and take a look, unfortunately the most beautiful part is now blocked.
·
【Day 2 Modern Architecture】
📍Biblioteca Vasconcelo - Casa Gilardi - Casa Estudio Luis Barragán - Museo Suomaya
Vasconcelo Library is like a dream space and also like a four-dimensional space in Interstellar. Both casas are works by famous Mexican architect Luis Barragan. Gilardi is currently a residence and must be booked in advance. Estudio can queue on site. Both are super beautiful and can gain a lot of decoration inspiration. The architecture of the Suomaya Museum is very peculiar, and it is the place with the most Rodin collections outside of France.
·
【Day 3 Hot Air Balloon Pyramid】
📍Sunrise hot air balloon tour - Teotihuacan Sun and Moon Pyramid - Castillo de Chapultepec
It is recommended to take a hot air balloon in CDMX, and the unique scenery floats over the top of the Sun and Moon Pyramid at sunrise, and the price is not too expensive. After coming down, go directly to visit the pyramid. You must find a guide to explain, otherwise it is just watching the excitement. It ends at about 1 o'clock and returns. In the afternoon, you can go to Chapultepec Castle, which has a beautiful palace and you can overlook Reforma Avenue from the terrace.
·
【Day 4 Two Heavyweight Museums】
📍Frida Museum - National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico - Shopping in Reforma District - Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela
The last day is left to my two favorite museums. The Frida Blue House needs to be booked in advance, and must arrive on time. It takes two hours to glance at the Anthropology Museum. It is recommended to do some homework in advance. There is no audio guide or manual explanation on site, you can download the guide app, and the exhibition sign is quite detailed. Afterwards, if you have time, you can go shopping in the Reforma district, there are many cute shops; the handicraft market can also go, all kinds of souvenirs are available.
·
【Travel Tips】
- Many museums are closed on Monday, check before you go
- Make an appointment as soon as possible, we went on the eve of the Day of the Dead, the number of tourists surged and almost couldn’t make an appointment
- Most indoor photography requires additional purchase of permits, prices range from 5 to 50 pesos; Casa Estudio Luis Barragán is the most exaggerated, 500 pesos
- The cost of living in CDMX is not cheap, similar to Beijing
- We didn’t feel any insecurity when we went, maybe it was also because the police force increased during the festival, but overall it was not as exaggerated as the rumors, it is a normal international metropolis

A View of Mexico City Through the Xochimilco Canals
Xochimilco, dubbed “the Venice of Mexico City,” is a Unesco World Heritage Site that preserves a lot of pre-Hispanic flair. It is one of the best cultural experiences in the country’s capital.
In the middle of Mexico City’s urban landscape, a long canal offers a watery glimpse into the past. Whether you’re looking to learn about the history of this ancient network of canals and the role that Xochimilco canals played in the Aztec Empire, it’s all waiting for you here. In short, much of Mexico City was made up of canals before the Spanish arrived. It was filled in by the colonists, and Xochimilco is all that remains as a reminder.
Nowadays, Xochimilco is famous for its colorful trajineras and its traditional floating gardens called chinampas. You will be amazed by seeing these beautiful tourist boats floating down the narrow waterways. This is why touring around the Xochimilco canals has become super popular.
If you're planning to make a stop here, there are two important things you can keep in mind. First, it is not just about partying and drinking. This place is a great stop on your Mexico City itinerary because of its rich and unique history. Also, remember that Xochimilco wouldn’t be what it is without the ability of its rowers. Navigating these watercraft requires a special talent. Show your respect to the rowers.
The Sinking Monument in Zocalo, Mexico City
The Metropolitan Cathedral is without a doubt one of the most important buildings in Mexico City’s historical center. Beyond its religious significance, it contains a summary of five centuries worth of Mexican art and architecture. Built on the remains of an Aztec temple in what was the center of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, the colonizing Spaniards built the most grandiose church in all of the Americas. Its imposing size, fascinating history and beautiful art and architecture make this one of the most outstanding buildings in the country.
The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Mexico and is situated on the north side of Mexico City’s main square, the Plaza de la Constitución, more commonly known as the Zocalo, and beside the Templo Mayor archaeological site, a visit to which will give you a glimpse at what this place was like before the arrival of the Spaniards in the 1500s.
There is no charge to enter the cathedral. A donation is requested to enter the choir or sacristy, but it is certainly worthwhile to do that.
The Choir is located inside large stone walls in between the two side organs. A choir is the area of a church that provides seating for the clergy and the musical choir. The choir contains 59 chairs. Each one is precisely carved with reliefs of various saints done in mahogany, walnut, cedar and a native wood called tepehuaje. Above the choir walls is a great painting of Jesus surrounded by angels. This is designed in a semicircular arch, a style popular in Spanish Cathedrals of the time. Work of exquisite taste, of fine guidelines and elegant profile, is worthy center of this magnificent choir.
Skulls and art gallery
6 Areas with 8 Facilities. More than 3 thousand skulls, and 60 sculptures will give life to Skulls & Art Exhibition
It is a cool place with a cool entrance
the entrance looks like a wall not a door
staff here are very nice and friendly
I don’t understand or speak Spanish but they are patient to help me with the ticket purchasing and the information
This place is located in a quiet and peaceful area which has a lot of good restaurants and residences.
Very close to the US consulate and Sheraton hotel etc
can walk to it and along the way, there are many restaurants, walmart and goodlooking buildings
Definitely worth a try if you want to find something is cool

Learn about Mayan culture in Mexico City
I found the best place to learn about Mayan culture and history to be at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City. It is a huge museum that houses all kinds of artifacts from around Mexico detailing the life of the ancient Mayans. The building itself, however, is quite modern.
You can see all kinds of objects such as sculptures, boats, masks, clothing and tools. Probably the most famous piece at the museum is the Mayan Calendar. There really is a lot to see, so plan to spend at least half a day.
Address: Calle Avenida Grutas Sn, 11560 Miguel Hidalgo, Distrito Federal
Entrance fee: 85 pesos.

Food & Restaurants - A must eat for anyone going to Mexico City is Tacos Los Cocuyos. It's a little hole in the wall, takeaway tacos place serving all parts of a cow's head such as tongue and cheek.
Also visit El Moro, a world famous Cafe where you can try a delicious snack called churros. Dip it in some hot chocolate for a real treat.

Visiting the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalup
It was a lovely experience and enjoyed masa .
Sumur Cenote Ik Kill
This well has existed since the time of the Mayans. Until now this well is still not dry. Even when visiting this place, you can swim while enjoying the freshness of the well water. This well has water that is directly sourced from groundwater which is very clean and clear. When viewed from its size, this well is arguably a giant well. The depth of this well is about 30 meters, and has a diameter of 60 meters.
Zócalo, Mexico City
A huge square in the city’s Centro Historico, Zócalo is for those who love local action. Stop to admire politicians scurrying to government offices and street hawkers peddling toys, snacks and the Mexican flag. Explore the Metropolitan Cathedral to the north, built on the ruins of the Aztec’s Templo Mayor. Art abounds, from Diego Rivera murals at the Ministry of Education to ornately tiled cafes, museums and several traditional bakeries selling colorful Mexican sweets.

Antara Polanco
Exclusivity is a given at Antara Polanco, as it’s within the parameters of the wealthy Polanco district. This gorgeous open-air Mexican shopping mall is dripping in glamour – even the fast-food court offers high-backed chairs with amusing silhouettes on the back, adding a touch of class to your burger-eating experience. Elegant boutiques such as Benetton and Oysho, beauty stores Sephora and Mac Cosmetics, plus perfumes and jewelry can all be found in Antara. If you visit during December, expect fake snow to fall from the sky during the evenings. 🥳

Centro Coyoacán
Small but perfectly formed and sitting in the Coyoacán district, made famous for being the home of Frida Kahlo, is the Centro Coyoacán shopping mall. Opened in 1989 and designed by architect Javier Sordo Madaleno, this mall is still going strong and houses more than 100 shops and boutiques. With stores such as Kiehl’s, Mango and Zara, Centro Coyoacán suits all budgets and tastes. 😍

Paseo Arcos Bosques
In one of Mexico City’s most famous skyscrapers, you’ll find the highly exclusive Paseo Arcos Bosques shopping mall. It sits inside the interconnected tower building just next to the instantly recognizable and appropriately nicknamed structure El Pantalón (the Pants). As well as a Cinépolis cinema, this shopping center plays host to some of the most high-end designers around, such as Kate Spade and Hugo Boss. Sweeping glass walls, shiny floors and high ceilings only add to the upscale feel. 😃
#summervacation#urbanexplorer
Perisur
Another upscale shopping center is Perisur, named for its location on Periferico Sur, in southwest Mexico City. While not the largest, it’s one of the most important shopping malls in the capital, known as much for its high-end feel as its extravagant Christmas decorations – think life-size polar bears and glittering lights. If you get bored with shopping, visit the on-site cinema or one of the many restaurants, serving everything from Japanese fare to Italian cuisine. 😍

Reforma 222
Housed in a building designed by Teodoro González de León, the architect of the Museo Tamayo, the Reforma 222 shopping mall is a glass-covered delight. The four-story mall has shops to suit every budget, ranging from the budget-friendly Bershka to upmarket cosmetic brand Mac Cosmetics and high-street Spanish favorite Zara. Bookstores, a food hall and a cinema make Reforma 222 the complete package for anyone looking for a bit of downtime away from Mexico City’s hectic streets. ☺️

Edgar Karim Audelo Sandoval Mexico City, has always been thinking about where to come. Before coming, many people said that it was not safe, and advised me to report a group. In the end, I was still free to come. The first impression is that people are more dense. Mexico City is only one-tenth the size of Beijing, but with a population of more than 22 million, it is one of the most crowded cities in the world. After landing, I came to the Constitution Square, which is located in the center of the old city. The square is surrounded by old buildings such as the National Palace and the Capital Cathedral. First feeling, I really like it.
Do you believe that this turned out to be the post office!
There is a post office in Mexico City, the whole Italian palace looks like, you will never think that this is a normal post office! The splendid decoration inside the post office, the exquisite bronze staircase, the cute shield-like pattern, the antique elevator, can't imagine what kind of post office it is. Many inside the post office are open to tourists, which is a paradise for photographers, and there is also a postal museum for tourists to visit.
Its too much to say that you dont send a postcard here! Poke a commemorative postmark, buy a commemorative stamp here, a few friends or family members, all special style!
Mexico City's stately and beautiful National Palace
National Palace is the presidential palace after Mexico's independence. It is not only an important political base, but also a museum for visitors to understand the history and culture of Mexico. Of course, what fascinates me is the architectural features of the national palace itself. From the outside of the wall, you can only feel the hugeness of the national palace. The walls are built very wide and long, occupying a large area. There are many courtyards and gardens in the National Palace. Many potted plants are cultivated, and many of them are lush cacti and agave, both of which are more than two meters high! Along the garden passage to the inner courtyard, there is an octagonal marble fountain located in the middle of the courtyard. From the fountain to look around the palace, the entire palace is neat and majestic. The National Palace houses a huge mural of world civilization, "The History of Mexico," which depicts the development track of Mexico. This masterpiece has few tourists here, so you can walk slowly and watch it quietly.
A Mexican restaurant that can be eaten for free by drinking alcohol
This pub named La Mascota is run in Mexico's most classic pub mode. The waiters are all mature and able to talk, and the flowing Mariachi band. Enter the store to perform, guests are free to reward.
I used a translator to chat with the waiter who is responsible for my desk and exchange the security situation here. The
pub is dominated by selling wine, with almost a hundred kinds of Mexican wines, from beer to agave, from vodka to Mescal, at different price points, different qualities and different styles. As for the portion to be eaten, there are 6-8 kinds of appetizers served in the menu every day. There are both peanuts that we are familiar with and large pieces of stew that taste great. Then the focus is coming! If a table of guests can order two glasses of wine per person, the menu can be free to choose free to eat, eat until full! God is not amazing! The price of wine is also in a cup of 30-50 yuan, depending on the quality. Complete civilian consumption!
This stewed pork also has flavored pork cartilage and rich sauce!
The most classic Mexican Mezcal, also suitable for agave brewing. The most traditional is to drink orange slices with spicy salt.
Praise the beaches and cuisine of this Mexican hotel!
Because Mexico's Panama Jack SPA & Resort is an old hotel, the hotel staff is well trained and welcoming, especially the front desk and restaurant waiters can see the guests and see the guests' needs. Recommend the hotel's Italian restaurant, simmered steak and pasta are excellent! There is no extra charge for the restaurant. Except for a small number of expensive wines such as fine wine, champagne and lobster, it is basically a matter of eating and drinking, but you can give due consideration to the service of your desk. 50-100 pesos. Wait, feel free to look at the quality of service and mood.
The beach here is private, the sand is not like the words, the sand is not the flour level but it is already very thin. There are white sand beach beds on the beach, and N beach hotels are free to order wine. They take some fruit and lean on the bed. The boundless Caribbean Sea and the flawless Tiffany Blue are in front of them. There are also beach hawkers, cigars and smugglers on the beach, but the density is not too annoying, it is also very interesting.
This time I also met a couple of new people to hold a wedding. It was really romantic and I just cried.
Experienced in Cancun for one night all-inclusive, Huahua sincerely recommend this Panama JackSPA & Resort, spend three nights in Sanya for a Caribbean middle class ,Good deal. Of course, if you have enough time, it is recommended to stay for at least 2 nights.
