Mengzi Wangyun Museum (Zhou Family Residence)
Wangyun Museum is an old building located on the shore of Nanhu Lake in Mengzi. Originally the Zhou Family Residence, it was built in 1916 by local businessman Zhou Baizhai and is a representative work of the fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles in southern Yunnan. In 1938, when the National Southwest Associated University moved to Mengzi, the Zhou family lent the residence to the university for use as a student dormitory. In 2013, the Zhou Family Residence was announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit. The museum has a large collection of ancient plaques and is the place with the most preserved antiquities among the exhibition halls around Nanhu Lake. It is worth a visit.
Mengzi: Honghe Prefecture Museum
Honghe Prefecture Museum is a national second-class museum located on the west side of Honghe Square in the Honghe Prefecture Administrative Center in Mengzi City. Fall in Love with Mengzi, Naturally Come to Nanhu Park
Our first stop in Mengzi is Nanhu Park, located in the city center. Nanhu Lake was originally a swamp, but it was excavated into a lake in the early Ming Dynasty. After more than 600 years of development, it has become a famous scenic spot in southern Yunnan, known as the "Little West Lake" of the plateau. The park is fresh and beautiful, and is not only the birthplace of the legend of Yunnan's famous "Crossing the Bridge" rice noodles, but also a tourist destination in southeastern Yunnan.
The lake water glistens in the sunlight, like a mirror inlaid with countless gems, reflecting the surrounding scenery and forming a series of moving pictures.
The ancient buildings in the park are even more charming and full of charm against the backdrop of the surrounding skyscrapers. Every pavilion and bridge exudes a unique glow, making people feel as if they have traveled back in time to ancient times, experiencing the tranquility and beauty of the past.
After dinner, take a stroll along the lakeside trail, where the breeze brings a coolness and endless comfort. Every step is taken in the intertwining of light and shadow, as if you are in a dream world.
When you feel tired of life, why not take a walk in Mengzi? Here, you will find the tranquility and beauty you desire. Mengzi is a place that will make your heart flutter, a city worth "falling in love with, naturally coming to."
TranquilJourneysWithJohnson Mengzi Bisezhai
Bisezhai is located in Caoba Town, Mengzi City. It is a train station with a history of over 100 years and an important station on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. Bisezhai was built in 1903 and completed in June 1909. It is not only the starting point of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, but also the starting point of China's first international railway. The scenic area has French-style buildings, yellow walls and red-tiled houses, an old clock, and a platform full of a sense of age, making it a great place for taking photos. You can take a bus from Mengzi North Bus Station to Bisezhai. The ticket price is CNY 7, and the bus will take you directly to the entrance of the scenic area. The return bus is also at the drop-off point, and there is a bus about every hour. The transportation is convenient, and the scenic area is free, making it a cost-effective option. Many people only take photos at the train platform after arriving at Bisezhai, but you can also take a walk and see the former site of the Datong Company, the former site of the staff canteen, and other places in the scenic area.
Mengzi South Lake Park
According to research, South Lake was formed in the Ming Dynasty when the prefect Qian Bangcheng led the people to remove the silt and weeds from the lake and divert spring water from outside the county into the lake. Various trees such as weeping willows were planted along the lake embankment, and the islands in the lake are connected by paths. There are also various pavilions, terraces, and towers, as well as the Wen Yiduo Monument. Around the park, there are attractions such as the Memorial Hall of the Mengzi Branch of the National Southwest Associated University. It is a great place for a leisurely stroll. The park is located in the city center and is easily accessible by bus.
The hometown of crossing-the-bridge rice noodles, a place with French style and Yunnan romance
As the capital of Honghe Prefecture, Mengzi is a tropical paradise. 🏜️ As the intersection of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the Gejiu-Bisezhai Railway, 🌠 it was once home to Yunnan's first customs office and briefly hosted the Southwest Associated University. 🌠
🚗 Transportation
There are intercity buses from Gejiu to Mengzi, and Mengzi has two train stations: Honghe Station and Mengzi Station.
1⃣️ Yuhuang Pavilion: Built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, it is a national key cultural relic protection unit.
2⃣️ Zhou Family Residence (Wangyun Traditional Culture Museum): Originally the former residence of local businessman Zhou Baizhai, it later served as the girls' dormitory of the Mengzi branch of the Southwest Associated University. The Tang Dynasty stone pillar and the tombstone of Princess Yongning are worth seeing.
3⃣️ Southwest Associated University (Mengzi Branch) Memorial Hall: Originally the Gollust Foreign Firm. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, due to the lack of school buildings in Kunming, the School of Arts and the School of Law and Business of the Southwest Associated University were moved to Mengzi, which was connected to Kunming by railway. Famous scholars such as Wen Yiduo, Zhu Ziqing, Chen Yinke, Qian Mu, and Feng Youlan once lived here. Although it only lasted for 180 days, it left a profound impact.
4⃣️ Nanhu Park: The attractions in the city are mostly distributed along the lake. There are scenic spots such as Yingzhou Pavilion, the Revolutionary Martyrs Monument, and Pioneer Bookstore, and it is said to be the origin of the legend of crossing-the-bridge rice noodles.
5⃣️ Former Site of Mengzi Customs: Only a single-story building remains, introducing the historical context of Mengzi Customs' trade.
6⃣️ Former Site of the French Consulate: Now the Mengzi Cultural Center, there is not much to see.
7⃣️ Honghe Prefecture Museum: The most valuable exhibit seems to be the Eastern Han Dynasty bronze figurine lamp? I remember it was borrowed by the Yunnan Provincial Museum. However, it is still worth taking a look at the historical development and local customs of Honghe Prefecture.
8⃣️ Zhuzi Tower: Located in Pomegranate Park (so the meaning of "Zhuzi" can be understood), it is a newly built imitation ancient building. As the hometown of pomegranates, many legends and stories about pomegranates are carved here. It is slightly far from the city center, and I personally think there is no need to make a special trip.

Have you heard of Moon Mountain?
❤️Mengzi | Hike to Moon Rock
When I was alone with nature, I knew this was freedom. All my troubles disappeared at that moment.
Along the way, I saw blue skies, white clouds, marigold fields, cattle, sheep, chickens, and insects. When I reached the top of the mountain, I listened to the wind and watched the clouds. The scenery along the way was very healing. Even the wind at the top of the mountain was free. Hiking is good for the heart and soul.
We set off from Mengzi and navigated to Hutu Village (it took more than an hour to get there).
We parked the car in the village parking lot and asked a passerby for directions to Qingfeng Convenience Store.
Opposite the convenience store, there is a sign for Hutu Village. Follow the sign and walk about 2 km to see a rock with a left arrow (don't be misled). Moon Rock is on the right side of this sign. Keep walking, and you will see Moon Mountain. You can see a path to the top of the mountain along the side of the road. Follow the path through the fields to the top (wear long pants, as there are many thorny plants and dead branches that can scratch your legs). It was really cool up there. We brought snacks (remember to take your trash with you).

Live well, and may all your wishes come true! This is the life I long for...
A place to relax, not just a place to stay. A starry courtyard with a bathtub and a large bed. I love the soundbar effect of the projector, which exceeded my expectations. The oversized bathtub is perfect for a soak, and you can enjoy a drink and play cards in the courtyard after sunset. You can fall asleep as soon as you hit the bed, which is so comfortable that it can cure insomnia. You can also enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast when you wake up. I highly recommend this hotel. It's better than a sauna. Take a break and treat yourself.

Mengzi Bise Village | A romantic journey through time and space.
| A romantic journey through time and space. As soon as you step into Bise Village, it's like falling into the whirlpool of history. The mottled yellow wall and red tile building🏠 has French romance and Chinese simplicity.
The ancient railway tracks extend into the distance, as if telling the past prosperity. This is an important station on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, and every stone slab is engraved with the traces of time.
Taking pictures in Bisezhai is absolutely perfect📸! Whether you are standing on the platform imitating the scene in the movie "Youth", or using the colorful French architecture as the background, you can shoot a blockbuster with a sense of familiarity.
Wearing retro clothes, any casual photo will tell a story.
There are also some special snacks around, such as Mengzi rice noodles🍜. Eat a bowl when you are tired from shopping, and your taste buds will cheer.
The sky here is as blue as a gem, and the ancient buildings are as beautiful as a dream.
If you want to feel the atmosphere of history and romance, don’t miss Bise Village!
Mengzi Accommodation | An interesting train hotel.
| An interesting train hotel. Mengzi, this state capital, may not be on everyone's travel list, but if you pass by, have a bowl of chrysanthemum rice noodles, stroll around Nanhu, and feel the cozy time in the small town, it's not bad!
This train-themed hotel: Dianyue Post Station
I personally think it's pretty good. Although some details are not what I like, but after all, this price, what else do you want? The Yunnan-Vietnam Railway also plays a special role, you can feel it!
Bed: about 30, quadruple room
Double room/standard room: about 100
It can be said that it is very cost-effective, clean and tidy and comfortable
The bed I live in, the bedding is not bad...
There are many public spaces, the rooftop is nice, the small bar on the fourth floor has not been open recently, and the rooftop is in a daze!
If you drive by yourself, don't say it, the small city is not big
Backpackers, you can walk, you can share electric cars
Hey, darlings! National Day is coming up.
Have you decided where to go? Take my advice, if you're going to Nisu Town, you must visit Qiqiqi's Bar!
Here, you can enjoy a barbecue with the freshest ingredients. Every bite will make your taste buds dance. There's also homemade lemon tea. One sip and you'll feel refreshed. It'll get rid of any bad taste in your mouth and make you feel fresh.
There are no noisy crowds here, only peace and beauty. You can sit leisurely and watch the sunset by the sea. The view is so beautiful it'll make you want to cry. This is the best place to watch the sunset by the sea. Don't miss it or you'll regret it for a year!
This National Day holiday, don't go to crowded places. Come to Qiqiqi's Bar and enjoy your time! Darlings, let's go!
Mengzi [Tuanshan Guolian Beef Restaurant].
1. Tomahawk steak: The tomahawk steak is a must-try. It sizzles and smokes when grilled, and tastes great.
2. Sirloin: It's delicious, but not as good as the tomahawk steak.
3. Bibimbap: The portion is large and it tastes good.
4. Lettuce: CNY 10 per serving, and you can add more.

Langton Hotel (Mengzi Branch)
Daily leisure, not just for accommodation. Starry sky courtyard bathtub with a large bed. As shown in the picture, the favorite projection soundbar effect exceeds expectations, the oversized bathtub is very enjoyable, and you can drink and play cards in the small courtyard after the sun sets. If you get drunk, you can fall asleep immediately; the bed is so comfortable that you can fall asleep in a second, even insomnia can be cured. When you wake up, there is a delicious buffet waiting for you. Highly recommended, compared to going to a sauna, it is truly better to choose here. Take a break from your busy schedule and give yourself a holiday.
Must-visit in Mengzi - Green Lake Village.
When you come out of Mengzi Railway Station, you will be met by many taxi drivers shouting "Green Lake Village, Green Lake Village". Drivers all know that most tourists who come to Mengzi are heading to Green Lake Village. It takes about 40 minutes and costs more than 70 yuan to take a taxi from the railway station to Green Lake Village. There are also buses that pass by some attractions and eventually reach the central area of Green Lake Village, which is also quite convenient.
Green Lake Village is not only famous for its historic railway station and Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, but also for being a filming location for movies and TV shows such as "Youth". If you happen to be in Green Lake Village on the summer solstice, be sure to stand at the Tropic of Cancer marker and experience the "shadowless pole" effect.
Mengzi is one of the few plains in Honghe Prefecture, so agriculture is relatively developed. The pomegranates here are very famous, large, juicy and sweet. The pomegranate harvest season is around the Mid-Autumn Festival. In addition, it is said that Mengzi is the birthplace of Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodles. When you go to Mengzi, remember to have a bowl of authentic Crossing the Bridge Rice Noodles.
The Pearl on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway → Bisezhai
🌟Highlights:
The last time I visited Bisezhai Scenic Area, it was near dusk. This time, I came to Mengzi in the afternoon specifically to take a look. Many middle-aged and elderly people come here to check in. You can rent an old-fashioned military uniform here to take photos and relive the scenes from the movie 'Youth'.
Those who know history are aware that during the Anti-Japanese War, many northern universities relocated southward. They traveled by sea to Haiphong, Vietnam, and then took the train along the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway to Mengzi. Some professors and students got off the train at Bisezhai Station and entered Mengzi. At that time, a campus was established in Mengzi, which later gradually moved to Kunming and became the famous Southwest Associated University.
🚉Transportation Guide:
Tourists can park in the parking lot and then take the scenic area shuttle bus into the scenic area. Last time, we walked up, but this time a friend led the way and we drove directly into the scenic area (from another route up the mountain, the address is opposite Bisezhai Primary School. Actually, this route does not belong to the scenic area, so such road-blocking measures can only be 🤐).
🎫Ticket Information:
The scenic area does not require tickets, it's free to visit. You can walk along the railway tracks 🛤️ all the way down. There are many French-style buildings above, and the red tile roofs on the houses 🏠 are still preserved. It is said that they are all numbered.
📝Tips:
Be sure to try the chrysanthemum rice noodles at the Huishuo Guoqiao Rice Noodle Restaurant in Bisezhai. The edible chrysanthemum combined with the special Mengzi rice noodles is super delicious 😋.

Living well as you wish, this is the life you long for. Daily leisure, not just staying for the sake of staying. Starry courtyard, bathtub, and large bed. As shown in the picture, the projection soundbar effect exceeds expectations, the oversized bathtub is enjoyable, and when the sun sets, you can drink and play cards in the small courtyard. If you get drunk, you can fall asleep immediately; the bed is so comfortable that you can fall asleep in a second, even curing insomnia. When you wake up, there is a delicious buffet waiting for you. Highly recommended, it's truly better than going to a sauna. Take a break from your busy life and give yourself a holiday. 💐
Mengzi Bisezhai
Bisezhai Scenic Area is located about 10 kilometers north of Mengzi city center. The road from Mengzi city center to the scenic area is wide, with six lanes up and down, and there are few pedestrians and vehicles, but the speed limit is 60 kilometers per hour, and 40 kilometers per hour at intersections. The scenic area has free admission, parking is charged by the hour, and the sightseeing bus ticket is 20 yuan per person, traveling about 3 kilometers.
Bisezhai has long been silent in history, but it gained fame again as a filming location for the movie "Youth," becoming a popular check-in spot for many tourists. This scenic area consists of two train stations, a meter-gauge station built by the French and a narrow-gauge (600mm gauge) station built by the Chinese, recording both the humiliation and the struggle of the Chinese nation in history. The French colonizers built the meter-gauge railway from Fangchenggang in Vietnam to Kunming in Yunnan to plunder China's wealth, while the Chinese built the narrow-gauge Ge (Old) Bi (Bisezhai) Shi (Shiping) railway to prevent the right of way from falling into French hands and to protect national industry. The scenic area preserves the original buildings of the two stations, the narrow-gauge locomotive depot, the Golus Hotel, the Datong Company, the Mobil Water and Fire Oil Company warehouse, the staff canteen, and other old buildings. Narrow-gauge locomotives, locomotive turntables, locomotive water fillers, narrow-gauge passenger cars, and other old technologies from a century ago are displayed to visitors. Sculptures made from discarded railway materials have both historical and modern artistic appeal. Some tourists rent military uniforms or Republic of China costumes to take photos in the scenic area, which has also become a sight. A commercial building next to the visitor center, which can be used as shops, restaurants, or inns, is currently for rent, with only a few businesses in operation at the moment.
Travel Notes of Mengzi, the Capital of Honghe Prefecture
We traveled north from Hekou along the Kaihe Expressway and Tianhou Expressway to Mengzi, covering about 160 kilometers. Mengzi City, as the capital of Honghe Prefecture, is indeed much larger in scale. The spacious square in front of the prefectural government building is even more impressive. A gold-painted bronze bull statue titled 'The Heart of a Public Servant, the Ethnic Ambition, the Soul of Honghe,' weighing 247 tons, stands on a high platform in the fountain by the roadside at the foot of the square steps. The statue was made and donated by Yunnan Copper Industry Group Co., Ltd. There are also some large decorations or trees on the square donated by various companies within the prefecture. It's unclear whether these enterprises made a lot of money and wanted to show their respect for the public servants or if they were compelled to do so. The Honghe Prefecture Museum is located next to the prefectural government building, separated by a huge parking lot. The parking spaces and the parking lot around the government building are filled with private cars, mostly belonging to the employees working in the building. The museum's exhibitions are rich and need no further elaboration. The exterior of the building immediately reminds one of a museum, very distinctive. However, there are not many visitors to the museum, perhaps because we were lucky and didn't encounter a busy time, allowing us to leisurely enjoy the exhibits.
Mengzi has many attractions, and one needs to be well-fed and hydrated to have the energy to explore them all. You can't visit Mengzi without trying the authentic 'Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles.' We found the Hongtai Chrysanthemum Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodle Shop on Cheng'en Street by the South Lake. The ingredients are presented on a small wooden bridge, the soup is fresh, and the ingredients are delicious, making you momentarily forget that there are other delicacies in the world. At the entrance of Cheng'en Street is Mengzi No. 1 High School, established in 1911. The first principal was Li Yuegai, the father of philosopher Ai Siqi. The school has a long history and profound heritage, with the Sino-Western architectural style of the teaching buildings serving as a testament. Deep in Cheng'en Street are three ancient buildings: the Jade Emperor Pavilion, the Guanyin Hall, and the Dizang Hall. At the intersection of Cheng'en Street and Wumiao Street is the Zhou Family Courtyard, which was converted into the Wangyun Museum in 2013. Initiated by a group of cultural figures, artists, and collectors, the museum showcases excellent traditional Chinese culture through inscriptions, calligraphy, and plaques. The museum is small but exquisite, and you can also learn about the Zhou Family Courtyard's history as a campus for the Southwest Associated University. The most impressive part of the museum is the forty couplets on the wooden and stone pillars, rich in life philosophy and famous sayings.
During the War of Resistance, the Southwest Associated University established a campus in Mengzi. Despite the war, the teachers and students of the university persisted in teaching, embodying the spirit of 'Fortitude and Perseverance,' creating a glorious chapter in the history of Chinese education.
Fortitude and perseverance, people with ambition,
Standing tall and firm is the soul of the nation.
Tears shed for a hundred years leave a long memory,
May future generations never forget their roots.
Due to limited conditions, the classrooms and dormitories of the Southwest Associated University in Mengzi were scattered in various locations. There are currently five existing sites: the Gollust Trading House, the Mengzi Customs Tax Office, the French Consulate, the Zhou Family Courtyard, and the Wang Family Courtyard. Walking through these sites, then strolling through the woods, crossing stone bridges, and circling the peninsula in South Lake Park, one gains a lot spiritually, but the energy from the Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles is exhausted. Wencui Street has a bustling night market at Dashu Village, where people go mainly not for shopping but for the culinary delights. We joined the crowd, drove there to experience the nighttime atmosphere, and tried some snacks.
Mengzi • Bisezhai | Transportation + Tour + Photography Guide~
| Transportation + Tour + Photography Guide~. If you think Bisezhai is just a nostalgic little station platform from a film or TV drama, you are greatly mistaken. It is not only the filming location for 'Youth' and 'Forever Young', nor is it just a platform to visit. Before going, you should do your homework well and understand the history here.
Bisezhai was established in 1909 and is the only first-class station on the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. It is also the starting station of China's only privately-owned railway, the Bise Railway. Back in the day, teachers and students from the Southwest Associated University disembarked here, and the prosperity of this place from a century ago can still be traced today.

❤️ Highlights of Bisezhai
1⃣ Yunnan-Vietnam Railway Bisezhai Station: Most of the pictures of Bisezhai seen online come from here. The station was designed by the French, with yellow walls, green wooden chairs, vintage red doors and windows, and a three-faced clock to take photos of.
Next to the platform, there is a white 'Bisezhai' station sign, as well as a century-old water tower and water crane, which were used to add water to steam locomotives.
2⃣ The former site of Mengzi Customs Bisezhai Branch: Opposite the platform of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway Bisezhai Station, it looks like a small exhibition hall with many black and white old photos introducing the history of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the Bise Railway, as well as old photos of the Renzi Bridge in Pingbian and the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway bridge and tunnel in Hekou. The three-dimensional models displayed in the glass windows vividly show the terrain the railway passes through.
3⃣ Datong Company's former site: The old yard is full of ancient trees and moss, and it is also a Bisezhai historical exhibition hall.
4⃣ Actual narrow-gauge steam locomotive
5⃣ Narrow-gauge railway in the forest opposite the locomotive: Surrounded by dense forest, it's easy to miss. Inside, there are intersecting tracks, giving a sense of a secluded path.
6⃣ Bise Railway Bisezhai Station: This station is further inside, smaller than the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway Bisezhai Station, with fewer people taking photos, but it is also beautiful. It has the same yellow walls, but the doors and windows are green.
7⃣ Mengzi Great Qing Post Office Bisezhai Branch
8⃣ China's first red clay tennis court
9⃣ Century-old frangipani tree

Kunming Alice in Wonderland
Hydrangea, a flower name that sounds very romantic; a colorful and endless summer, when flowers bloom romantically; stepping into the Valley of Famous Flowers, what comes into view are countless fresh flowers with fragrant aromas: the most impressive are the hydrangeas, as if you are in the wonderland of Alice, making people linger and indulge in it. (ps: Snap photos 📷, the blooming period lasts until September oh~)
Bisezhai Station | A century of splendor, beyond the questions of East and West
| A century of splendor, beyond the questions of East and West. Bisezhai Station, built in 1909, is one of the earliest train stations in modern Chinese history. Throughout its hundred-year history, Bisezhai Station was a core hub for the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the Gejiu-Bise Railway, witnessing the historical development of China's railways and the cultural exchanges between China and France.
Within the station, the mottled yellow walls and red tiles, the still French-style clock, the endless railway tracks stretching to the horizon, and the existing historical relics all imbue this place with a profound sense of the passage of time. Movies such as 'Youth' and 'Forever Young' were filmed here, attracting a steady stream of visitors.
The scenic area is not very large, mainly consisting of two stations and the railway tracks and old sites along the line.
The first station is the Bisezhai Station of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, with French architectural style, two stories high, and walls full of historical traces. Inside the station, there is a Tropic of Cancer marker and a 'three-faced clock,' with 'Bisezhai' signs and station boards on both sides of the station.
The second station is the Bisezhai Station of the Gejiu-Bise Railway, containing Chinese elements, looking newer and smaller in scale. There is also a 'three-faced clock' and wooden green chairs here.
The railway tracks connect the two stations and even extend to the surrounding areas. Following the tracks, one often finds unexpected surprises. Phoenix flower trees grow alongside the tracks, and the bright phoenix flowers add a touch of warmth and vitality to the place.
Some old sites display historical materials, recounting the stories of the past; others remain silent, listening to the comings and goings of modern visitors.
Visiting Bisezhai Station opens a chapter of a century, listening to the changes of time.
