This dreamy and less crowded spot is a perfect hidden gem for cherry blossom viewing! Getting to Matsudo Kawazu Cherry Blossoms is quite easy. Take the JR line to Matsudo Station, then walk towards Matsudo Shrine. It's just a five-minute walk, making it very convenient. The small stream beside the shrine is where the Kawazu cherry blossoms are in full bloom. On weekends, there are festivals and cosplay photoshoots, adding to the fun experience.

It is usually open for three hours from 18:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays, but on this day it happened to be open from 10:30 to 16:30 on Thursdays. The city donated the site of the villa of Tokugawa Akitake, the last lord of the Mito domain and younger brother of Tokugawa Yoshinobu, to the city and turned it into a park in 1991. It features the Tojo Residence, where the Nariaki family lived and whose garden is a National Place of Scenic Beauty, and a small museum. Tojo History Museum Admission: ¥150; Tojo Residence General Ticket: ¥320 Exhibits letters, stationery, and photographs related to Tokugawa Akitake from the Meiji period onward. It's small, so you'll finish looking around quickly. There are records of photography becoming popular among Tokugawa families across the country, and enthusiasts flocking to the Tojo Residence. Akitake was a pioneer of photo postcards and apparently a dedicated photographer, bringing (or having his parents carry) developing equipment with him when he traveled. Former Tokugawa Matsudo Tojo Residence Admission: ¥250; General Ticket: ¥320 The former residence of the Matsudo Tokugawa family. Completed in 1884. The entire building is nearly intact. Enter through the east entrance. The ticket office is located inside. On the left is the Messenger's Room, which was sold and temporarily moved to Inzai before being returned to its current location. Proceeding forward is the storehouse. Inside were black boxes bearing the chrysanthemum crest, among other items. Proceeding down the corridor in front of the storehouse is the main parlor, which offers a good view of the garden, a nationally designated place of scenic beauty. It houses a mix of guest rooms and family spaces. High-quality building materials, such as single-piece cedar doors, were used. The garden is only accessible on designated days (days ending in 0). Unfortunately, we weren't there on that day. Apparently, in the past, on clear days, Mount Fuji could be seen from the east side of the main parlor. Behind the main parlor are the living spaces of the inner parlor, inner parlor, annex parlor, and bathhouse. The inner parlor was added later, presumably because it had become too small. The inner parlor was apparently used by Akitake's second wife. The annex parlor was built two years after the completion of the main parlor for Akitake's birth mother. Compared to the other buildings, better building materials were used. It's fascinating to get a glimpse into the family's rankings. The bathhouse building is a bath for family guests. The bathtub in the photo dates to the early Showa period, and it's possible that when the building was completed there was no bathtub and people bathed by pouring their own water over themselves. The last building is the kitchen building used by servants. This is the only part of the Tojo residence that is not open to the public. #domestictravel

Located about a 10-minute walk from Shin-Matsudo Station, "Glass Lapin" offers fluffy shaved ice crafted by a French chef! The syrups are made using fresh fruits and vegetables sourced from local farmers under contract. ✔️ We ordered the Double Chocolate Mint (¥1400) and Salted Caramel Nuts (¥1200)! The Chocolate Mint was refreshing and invigorating, while the Salted Caramel had a perfect balance of sweet and salty—both were absolutely delicious. 🤍 By the way, their braised pork is also highly recommended! 😋

This time, we booked all our hotels and train tickets on Trip.com during our trip to Japan. We visited many shrines in Chiba Prefecture and watched planes take off and land at Narita Airport.
