Exploring Madaba and the King Abdullah I Mosque
Madaba, the capital city of the Governorate in central Jordan, is a bustling city best known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. With a population of about 60,000, it has the ambiance of a large market town rather than a city. It is steeped in history and adorned with mosaics from the Byzantine Empire.
Madaba is conveniently located for getting around Jordan, just 30 kilometers from Amman. The Dead Sea is also 30 kilometers from the center of the city, ideal for a spot of relaxation.
The King Hussein Mosque in Madaba, Jordan, is a significant religious site and a prominent feature of the city’s skyline. The mosque was built by King Hussein bin Talal, who dedicated and named it after his grandfather, the first King of Jordan.
