We visited in April and, unfortunately, missed the blooming season for 水性杨花 (aquatic poplar flowers), a special floating plant that graces the lake’s surface during the right time of year. Despite that, we enjoyed leisurely paddling across the tranquil water, taking in the picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. As the lake is quite expansive, we grew tired, and eventually, the boat master took over, guiding us back to shore. The entire experience was unforgettable, immersing us in the peaceful beauty of Lugu Lake and the Mosuo culture.

Getting There - From Daluoshui village it’s easy to hire a local car to take you straight to Lige Village. For me, I hiked and hitchhiked to Lige from Daluoshui both times when I visited the lake. After a winter hike around the lake, I was excited to go back and experience how the lake is during the summer. And after hiking all around Lugu Lake, I feel Lige village is the most lively place at the lake. The local villages and ancient architecture are still kept intact there despite it being the most visited place by the lake. My friend who is running a guesthouse at Lige showed me an area close to the village right behind the grand Shennv Mountain. I right away felt that this spot is gonna be amazing for camping. And so I did camp out there. Facing the lake and right in front of the mountains, this spot is just the perfect place to appreciate everything the lake has to offer. I’d highly recommend anyone who is looking to camp out by the lake to check this spot out. I went here last year (2020) in either June or July and it’s one of the highlights of my time in China! beautiful blue lakes, yaks, a great view of the mountains, and great scenery! there are many places to take photos from scenery to selfie photos! there are a few small shops selling snacks, ice creams and drinks but it a very remote area of Yunnan province so there isn’t a wide verity nonetheless just pack some food ahead of the trip and definitely ive this place a visit once in your life, especially if you live in china or are visiting in the area! you will need to take the whole day to get here and explore the area as it's not small but again, I can't emphasise this enough, visit luguhu! #mountainview
