2024 Luang Namtha Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Hiking and kayaking day
If you plan on visiting Nam Ha National Protected Area, be sure to sign up for a river excursion as well. The best way to observe the waterways in this portion of the park is to rent a kayak and go on a guided tour through the Laotian rainforest, where you can see all of the indigenous flora and species. You may witness animals drinking from and bathing in the rivers depending on the route, so this is a terrific alternative to an overland hike in the park. But we do it both ways we had so much fun!

Take you to visit the night market in Nanta, Laos.
Various delicacies at the night market in Nanta, Laos. Would you dare to eat this bug?
The provincial capital of Luang Namtha Province in Laos - Nanta City, located in the north of Laos, borders China and Myanmar to the north, and is adjacent to Thailand to the south, named after the Namtha River.
This city has a very small population, with less than ten thousand people. It is very primitive and has not been developed for tourism. The locals are still very simple and honest.
The night market here slowly starts to have locals setting up stalls from around 4pm, and it gets very lively in the evening.
Night markets are only one street of three to four hundred meters, selling all kinds of drinks, clothing, vegetables, fruits, etc. Many foods are rarely seen in China and are quite novel, but the prices are not expensive. It's very difficult to spend 100 yuan.
Many of the foods here are packed in transparent plastic bags for easy takeaway. The locals are very friendly when they see us taking photos.
When traveling, I really enjoy wandering around the local night markets and vegetable markets, experiencing the daily lives of the locals. How about you?
